Finally, real Italian food! 11/14/2009

Once of the few places in Portland which takes great pride in their food and service. Contrary to the ""Rude"" review below, I find the owner and staff to be very friendly and welcoming. This is a family run business and it shows. I've lived in Little-Italy in Toronto for most of my life, and cooked professionally there for 11 years. I can safely say that this is the real Italian food prepared with a great deal of pride, as it should be. Italians love food, and this place truly shows you just how much they do. They make their own bread too and it's fresh! I feel that the bakery scene in Portland is dismal at best. This is the only bakery I shop at in Portland. I would not put anything less on my own table for my family at home. Food: FRESH, incredibly tasty, and reasonably priced! The portions are just right. (This is something else Portland restaurants seem to not understand very well: Portion Control. Enormous quantity is not better quality or value, just a drain on the profit margin when it walks out in a doggie-bag). Everything here come out presentable, aromatic, and with a proud smile. I cannot stress how important this is for any restaurant wanting to retain their customer base. There is nothing on their menu which I would hesitate ordering, from pasta to bread to dessert. They also have a beautiful garden in the back. Conclusion: In my opinion, Dip Rima has no serious competition in this town for truly authentic Italian cooking. They will do very well here in the years to come. Pros: Authentic more

How about zero stars? I had heard good things about this place, but my experience with the staff is that they are rude and snobby. There are too many good bakeries in town for me to do business with a rude, stuck up staff. more

The BEST Authentic Italian Bakery In Portland!!!

Owner Message
  • DiPrima Dolci Italian Bakery and Café was opened on June 13, 2002, by Patricia DiPrima as a tribute to her Sicilian heritage and her parents, Josephine and Francisco DiPrima. Since then, it has come to be the definitive Italian bakery in Portland, serving traditional pastries, breads and savory dishes, lunch and dinner daily and breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays, 9-11 am, Sundays, 9 am-1 pm.

All products, including breads, pastries, pizza and pasta dishes, are prepared and cooked on the premises. The menu offers many regular items and some that vary, depending on the seasonal harvests and annual Italian celebrations.

The restaurant is located in North Portland because it is where Patricia and husband, Robin, relocated from New York in 1993. It most reminds her of the neighborhood where she grew up, Maspeth, Queens, NY.

So, buon appetito, and make yourself at home!
