Di Piero's Restaurant

My husband and I went for dinner last Friday, and we sat at the bar...if two people could me more unfriendly WOW!!! I get it they speak very little english, although, if that's the case don't have them wait on people...whatever happened to HI, how are you, and thank you...we will never go back, this isn't the first time...when you sit at the bar...you shouldn't have to suffer for lack of service, infact I would think the owner would be delighted that your spending money and not taking up a table...HORRIBLE, it was the first time in my life I did not leave a tip... more

For over fifteen years my family and I enjoyed a small, German like Village called Lake, Zurich,IL. We spent our vacations visiting my Mother in law. Time by the lake with Bill's Boats and a great dinner at Di Piero's. Times changed, this place used to have personality. The happy fat Italian man at the bar, would light up the room and gave it an essence of Soprano's and New York City. Which was lost in the County, as if these people were hiding in a tiny Village. My belief is the old owner had died. The second owner, whom I believe is named Bob, is mean and stares at everyone like he can't wait to leave. He's not respectful to the customers and neither is his son I believe who runs it with him. Personality goes a long way in this business. Our family has re-visted this Restaurant, believing the magic would return. Veterans of the town, Firemen, all loved the old owner. He was the personality! Since his passing this restaurant has turned into less than Olive Garden. Like they made their money and they just soak up the fact the place is a landmark. Horrible, prior to this, ten years ago, I would have given it five stars. It now shouldn't get one. But one is fair.. Do not order from the carry out next door. The food tastes like Coffee Beans.. The Restaurant still has some flavor, but lost all it's personality. more

I went there with my wife the other day and we both really enjoyed our meal. After reading a review below I was a bit hesitant, but glad I didn't listen to them. I actually ended up ordering linguini with calamari and thought it was done perfectly. The wife got a dish with sausage, chicken and potatoes which I had to taste many times. She also liked it a lot. Overall the prices are reasonable the service is decent and the food was really great. Pros: Great food. Cool place. more

Once again my family tried DiPiero's hoping it would impress us since it is locally located, but another bad experience ruined our night. The Linguine Frutta di Mare was loaded with bits of broken shells, it's a wonder I didn't choke. The seafood was flavorless & overcooked, much like eating rubber bands in soupy water. When we expressed our dislike to the waiter, he returned saying we should talk to the owner ourselves as he could not get a resolution from him. The owner, rudely said he couldn't do anything to make our dinner better, and to just not come back again...we are apalled! Please skip this restaurant, you are better off at the Olive Garden! Highly Recommended. This is a great place. I'm not sure whether this is for the carry out or the sit down restaurant. But they both get 5 stars so it doesn't matter. The sit down restaurant is the kind of place that makes dining out an event. A bottle of nice (and reasonable) wine and a plate of linguini with calamari or one of the numerous specials and you're signed up good night. And I love the pizza. My family has been frequenting DiPiero's for, well as long as I can re member. I probably eat here more than at home! Ive never had anything that wasnt good- from the pizza, to the ribs & try the ravioli rossalini (sometimes its not up on the specials board, but they will make it). All of the employees are extremely nice, too. Go early- there are only a handful of tables and the bar gets really crowded... worth it for great consistent food and a great place to go with family (maybe not really little kids since it is really small). When you have a taste for good Italian food, this is the place. I almost hesitate to recommend it because I fear trouble getting a seat if it becomes too popular, but credit should be given when it is due. Delicious, authentic food (skip it if you want that asian-mid-eastern fused cooking with lamb sashimi served over a bed of seaweed with ""tuscan style"" wasabi curry sauce). They have traditional dishes done just a bit better than everyone else; way better than those unnamed corporate places with the double g’s in the middle. Best red sauces around (try the linguini with calamari). The giambotta is delicious too. This place is a definitely worth checking out if you are the type that likes nice restaurants with good food.
