Best

This has to be the BEST pizza in tahr entire world. Seriously, it is definitely worth the hour or so wait for a mouthwatering scrumptious experience. Run don't wak, to the best...

Worst

I've heard that the place has gone downhill since the hype started a few years ago. I've been there twice, and after this last time, wouldn't ever go again. Pros: fresh porci...

Amazing pizza 1/4/2007

The pizza was amazing here I even ate the crust. Yes it does take a while to get a pie but everything is so fresh!. You have to realize and admire the dedication that is put into every pie made by one man for years !! Pros: The pizza Cons: The wait and the state of the pizzaria more

Painfully Slow 1/1/2007

We arrived around 3 in the afternoon. It's a small, dingy place that hasn't changed in 40 years, nor has it been thoroughly cleaned. We were pushed into the crowd that huddled around the counter. Couldn't tell who had ordered and who hadn't; neither could the owner or his son. Son took our order after we'd stood there for 10 minutes. Watched burned pizzas come out of the oven. Tried to find a couple of chairs at the handful of greasy tables. Waited. Waited. Waited. A few people who came in after us got their food. Waited some more. Watched the owner look into the empty pizza ovens, then start making another order. Told the son what we had ordered 30+ minutes before. He didn't seem to care. Saw the owner looking at a long list of orders. People continued to cram into the place. After an hour, we walked out. It may be the best pizza in NYC, but I'll never find out. I'd rather get 2nd best pizza somewhere else than stand in a dirty, cramped restaurant with poor service and a painfully long wait. Cons: long wait, inconvenient location, small size, dirty more

Best pizza in a long time!!! 11/13/2006

I used to work at Lombardi's in little Italy. I was feed theirs for a bit and loved it. Growing up I went to Grimaldi's if I wanted something special too. Pros: Fresh ingredients, great character to the place Cons: The teasing wait for the goods. more

Best Pizza in the WORLD 11/7/2006

Nobody does it better than Di Fara. He's DEFINETLY worth the wait. If I can go there everyday I would. I would wait a week for a slice of pizza if I had to. I love how he always makes the pie in front of you and everything is FRESH FRESH FRESH. Pros: Best pizza a person will ever eat. Cons: Long wait, could be cleaner. more

The Best Pizza in the United States 11/5/2006

Yes, you can count on a wait; yes, it's well out of the way of most New Yorkers; yes, the place is dingy. Pros: the food, the chef Cons: the wait, the crowds, the heat more

Don't believe the hype 8/3/2006

This place is too far away and the restaurant itself is dirty and decrepit to boot. The owner is a sweet man, but he has no rhyme or reason when it comes to running his business. We were standing in line for over 1.5 hours and he was making pizzas for people who came in after us. Another guy on line who was there before us tried to complain and the owner just shrugged. We just got fed up and ended up leaving. Wake up people! This is NYC, you can practically trip over great pizza don't bother with this place. more

Simply the best pizza on the East Coast. 7/22/2006

If you want to wait 1 hour for a fresh slice this is the place for you. (Try to spent minimum 10 minutes on checking out how he (the owner) makes the pizza. Pros: best pizza !!! Cons: place needs to be repainted once every 40 years, lol more

Brooklyn-only experience! 7/16/2006

One can debate what is more rewarding: Watching Dominic shaping his pies as if he was Stradivarius making a violin, or actually eating one! Be prepared to wait LONG time (by NY standards) - but it is worth it. The pie is fantastic: all ingredients are fresh, crust is thin and juicy! The biggest problem is finding parking space. more

Love it! Love it! Love it! 7/11/2006

The first time my husband and I went here we each ordered two slices. Thank goodness we did because we waited over an hour. I never waited that long for a pie, let alone a couple of slices, but my husband said that it must be worth the wait because some guy just left with six boxes of pies tied up and heading for the subway. Was it worth the wait? ABSOLUTELY!!! The fresh cheese and basil make such a difference. Will I go there again? Of course - but I will CALL in my order ahead of time and pick it up. Pros: Fresh Ingredients Cons: Long Wait - call ahead and order your pie! more

Don't believe the hype 7/11/2006

My friend said that there is no better pizza. The owner is proud of his store, takes great pride in his ingrediants and is beloved by his patrons. The wait is long and the place is dirty but has a certain ambiance anyway. I really wanted to love this pizza. Unfortunately, the pizza was just not that good. oily and burnt, great cheese though. more

Best pizza 7/3/2006

The best tasting pizza by far, a long long wait for service but well worth it. It is best to order a pie with something that no one will typically order. For Example, pizza with garlic(that way you can judge the time that it would take you to recieve your pie). This pizza is really fantastic! (especially when a person like myself is willing to travel from Baltimore,Md for a pizza pie). Pros: Friendly atmosphere Cons: limited seating more

simply the best better then all the rest 6/21/2006

amazing intoxicating well worth the hour plus wait. simply put no matter if you're Bill gates you could not buy better pizza. Dom is an artist there is no other way to put it! The care and love that goes in to his method of madness leaves Robert De Niro in the dust! No where on earth will you get better then this! So the ambiance is non exist'nt so what? You're not going there for the decor you're going there for the best freeking pizza on the face of this earth and I garuntee you Dom delivers big time! more

A Pizza god! 6/15/2006

Dominic is a pizza god. There is no pizza like Dom's. I have traveled all over the US and nobody comes close to making a slice like Difara's does. The Sicilians are also out of this world. more

Di Fara's pizza. Simply the best. 6/15/2006

Having grown up in the neighborhood , it is isn't surprising that Di Fara's made this list. When I really need good pizza I fly in From Arizona for a few pies, go to friends house , freeze them and fly home. Friends here beg for more. more

The Best Pizza In the World is Worth the Wait 4/17/2006

The journey may be long and the wait may be longer, but there is nothing that could keep me from this pizza. Dom Di Marco is a master. He uses only the finest ingrediants and cooks every slice to perfection. You will have to wait, you can't rush excellence, but it is worth it. Pros: Best Pizza Ever, Great Toppings, A true NYC experience Cons: Long Wait more

Believe the Hype. 4/15/2006

Out of this world pizza. This man makes pizza an art. He takes his time, and each pie is a delicious slice of heaven. Don't mind the decor, because you'll be too busy savoring your pizza. Amazing! Also try DeMarco's too, which is supposed to be his son's place. more

It's good, but... 3/26/2006

After reading all the reviews here and many glowing recommendations on food blogs, I thought ""I MUST try this pizza!"" So, on Saturday I made the long (and I do mean LONG) trek to Avenue J. It took about 30 mins from Union Sq. on the Q. When we got there, the wait was just as everyone here has described, Domenico's process was just as described, but the pizza? Not so much. It's good, but nothing special. The blend of cheeses was tasty, but overall the sauce plus the buffalo mozzerella makes for a combination that is too watery for such a thin crust (the sicilian style crust would probably fare better). Worth the trip and the wait (and the higher than average price)? I don't think so. There's better pizza to be had.... Cons: Wait, Disorganized more

Pizza King of NYC 3/14/2006

Fughedabout any other pizza, this is perfection. It's like you died and went to pizza heaven. Domenico is ""THE GOD"" of making pizza. His pizza dominates any other slice you will ever have. This pizza is in a different league. Once you taste it, you will never think of pizza the same. It is definitely worth the trip to BK. Be prepared to wait. Perfection takes time. Nobody asked Picasso to paint fast, so don't expect ""The Picasso of Pizza"" to do any different. Note: Make sure you get at least one ""Square"" and one ""Regular."" Pros: Pizza, Authenticity Cons: Absolutely None more

It's like reliving "" The Godfather"" 12/27/2005

Di Fara is truly a miserable tiny place, but the aroma of a superb pizza doesn't let you turn around. You stay for more than an hour when you see the 2005 award for best pizzeria. Dominic is a thin, sixtyish old man who goes back and forth for the dough (one at a time), and prepares each pizza with no rush. Dominic will give you the ambience of the old times when they were all immigrants and good food was equivalent of good friends and unforgettable times. Dominic will smile even if you get impatient and more important he will keep on working methodically and impassively. If you really want to know what life was when our ancestors got to America give it a try. You won't regret it. You can always call and order, but you will miss the preparation. It's up to you. more

Go once for the entertainment value 11/22/2005

When we arrived we got in a line of about 6 people and thought that we were in luck and wouldn't have the famous hour-plus wait. We were wrong! We did not even ORDER our pizza for an hour. It took Dominic about 10 minutes to prepare each pizza, and it was comical to watch his highly inefficient system. The pizza was good, but Patsy's and Grimaldi's is better. The smell was heavenly, and the appearance was great, but the cheese was a little too salty and heavy. Worth one trip, though. Pros: unique Cons: long wait more
