Destefano's Steakhouse

It was a good experience but not what I expected, the prices were high and the food was not bad, good service and great decoration, i think is a nice place to go and spend some time. more

I just returned from eating dinner at DeStefano's with my boyfriend and feel the need to say a few kind words. The two gentlemen manning the front (Joe and ?, I'm sorry I didn't catch his name) engaged with us in conversation about great eats in Brooklyn and filled us in on some local history as our table was being set. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting with ample space between tables and black & white photos lining the walls. Our meals from start to finish were creatively executed by the chef and timed well by our server Brooke. The highlights, my skirt steak a la braciole was perfectly seasoned with a wonderful creamy texture due to the pistachios and the ricotta cheesecake was so fresh and light, a little slice of heaven that paired nicely with a smooth double espresso. My father was a chef and my great grandmother owned a little polish restaurant in Brooklyn once upon a time, so for me to experience a cozy family run restaurant in Brooklyn with so much character and heart truly is something special. Seek out this quiet little gem, it is worth all the coins in your pocket. I wish the owner and staff continued success and look forward to my return. My husband and I live two blocks from DeStefano's and were very excited to see a new neighborhood restaurant opening. We first dined here on opening night and were blown away by how great the food was. One of their cooks was out sick that first night so the service was a tad slow, but the owner explained everything to us and was incredibly nice and apologetic. We've dined there several times since that night and the service is always prompt and friendly. The owner greets us by name now, even when we bump into him out and about in the neighborhood. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable and the walls are covered with old photos from Brooklyn and Joe's family and friends. The food is always delicious and creative with Italian (and sometimes other ethnic) twists on the traditional steakhouse fare. It's a tad pricey for the neighborhood, but the quality of the food and service is well worth it. Pros: Excellent food, friendly service, quiet location Cons: Slightly pricey more

Visited this great Steak-House in Brooklyn with my wife and her family and was pleasantly surprised at how great the food was. Definitely up to par with New York steak houses. The food at DeStefano's was excellent - the steaks & chops were HUGH & tasted great ....they are cut and cooked to order, and the sides were perfect . The hostess seated us promptly and again the food was amazing! The environment was classy with a touch of some vintage photos of Joey Dee?s family and friends on the walls. I am definitely going back to DeStefano's---and SOON! If you love eating Steaks/Chops then this is the place for you. Oh, and the Wine list is great too! Destefano's is a warm relaxed setting reminicesnt of an old friend's home, with glowing fireplace and assorted Brooklyn memorabilia lovingly displayed alongside nostalgic photos of owner Joe Donatelli's family. The tables are generously spaced and simply set with burnt orange and cream colored linens fashionably matching the decor and enhancing the polished hard wood floor.\r But here, it's all about the food......the fabulous, succulent steaks, generous salads and creamy rich desserts.\r My favorite appetizer is the short rib rolls. Brimming with mashed potatoes and buttery morsels of tender beef, they are an introduction to the glory that is the steak that you will never forget. They are so tender, so delectably rich, no steak knife is needed. Lamb chops, hangar steak and the eye poppingly gargantuan veal chop are all incomparable to any others I have sampled else where. My favorite by far is the hangar steak with a deep jewel red pomegranate reduction that defies you not to soak it up with the crusty bread. \r My dining mantra , ""Leave room for dessert"", is expertly rewarded at DeStefano's with a small choice of lucious desserts. On our numerous visits we have tried all the desserts but my personal favorite is the ricotta cheesecake lovingly made by Chef Arthur with a consistency so creamy and a gooey crust so irresistable that I cringe when my fellow diners say, ""Lets share the desserts!"". The tiramisu with its pillow like lady fingers and generous liquor embracing the rich cream is another choice that defies comparison. \r So often restaurants offering great food take a dive on the coffee but even the coffee is top notch here. The espresso arrives piping hot, (sans the overly done lemon peel), deep and creamy inviting a slow sip between dessert morsels.\r You can not go wrong with a visit to Destefano's. Do your family and friends a favor and bless them with an invite or better yet......a holiday gift certificate to dining heaven. more

I have dined at DeStefano's several times since they opened. Much to my delight the food and service have been consistently superb. It is a place where I have felt comfortable inviting family, friends and/or business associates to dine. Thankfully, none of us have ever been disappointed.\r \r \r \r The restaurant itself has a wonderful old school ambience but it is the warm, genuine attention from the owners and caring staff that actually makes you feel at home. They go out of their way to assure that your visit is a pleasant one. It seems that every detail, no matter how small, has been taken care of in advance. \r \r \r \r \r From start to finish the meals at DeStefano's are perfectly orchestrated!! more

DeStefano's is just an all-around great dining experience. The steaks are some the best in the city (I've been to Sparks, Smith & Wollensky, Morton's, Peter Luger, Del Frisco's, Uncle Jack's, Old Homestead...) and you cannot beat the ambiance. Such a cute 35-seat restaurant with fantastic attention from wait staff. The owner, Joe, doesn't hesitate to throw in extras: Amuse-Bouche, complimentary dessert with 20-year old port. If any of Joe's family members are there, he is more than happy to intoduce you. \r Also, the menu has changed and improved since CitySearch was at this restaurant.
