Love it! 5/22/2011

The parking, bakery, restaurant and shopping is all right at your fingertips. You can par, eat and then walk the food off while you shop! The food is WONDERFUL and lots of it. You don't have to wait long and the people are VERY friendly. I live in West Virginia so it;s just a couble hours drive for us. My sisters and I visit once a year and my husband and I are going to visit again next weekend. more

First time at an Amish Restaurant 3/29/2010

This was my first time at an Amish restaurant and I just had no clue what to expect, so I didn't expect anything. Reading my reviews you will see that when possible I get the buffet so I can try a little of everything. We got in and I thought we would have a wait, but we were seated right away. Its a cozy setting but not uncomfortably close. I glanced over the menu and found some items that made me scratch my head. One in particular was the noodles over potatoes. More on that later. I hit up the buffet and found it to be kind of limited on its selections. It all the staples though and everything seemed like good ole home town cooking. The chicken was the first to hit my plate. It was tasty but not the best I had. I then tried the noodles over potatoes. It is kind of hard to explain, but it was like a chicken noodle stew over mashed potatoes. Best thing I had there!! It was great!! I ate a ton, so it was a good thing that they also had a massive gift shop! I was able to not only get dinner, but took home some cookies, beef jerky and cheese, and something for my wife and daughter. I may go there again if I am in the area. Pros: Nice people, good buffet, good shopping :) Cons: Kind of out of the way. more

Great Amish Cooking 8/26/2006

I'm actually an employee there of more than five years and can say that I can still eat all the food no matter what. The management keeps very good track of the cleaniness of not only the outside but the kitchen as well. As one has said above, this place can be crowded, but it's good enough to wait. The peak times are normally always busy. But if you can get in there around 2 or 3, the wait won't be bad if any. Even on Saturdays. If the wait is too long here, you can always take the short road trip to the Der Dutchman Countryside(formally the Dutch Kitchen). I've been here a few times, and although I don't believe the food is quite as good, it still will make most people happy. The bakery is one of the favorites of the customers. With all the home made pies and doughnuts, employees love to see the Der Duthcman symbol come into their companies for breakfast. The most popular meals are the broasted chicken, noodles over mashed potatoes, and Manhattans. However everything is pretty darn tasty. The best part about this restaurant is the dessert. You have to splurge for it while you're here. Forget the diet, it's worth it for one day. All cream pies are made daily and will be available until close. The fruit pies are made early in the morning and are just as good. The main problem with this restaurant, and I hate to say it are the nats. I don't see them in the kitchen as much as in the dining room in the morning first thing. I know the management has tried many things to oust these insects, but has been unsuccesful so far. That would be my biggest complaint, but most people don't notice it. However, this problem has to be almost in every restaurant whether the customers see it or not. This place is a great place to bring the family. The crowd is normally slightly older, but the kids could enjoy it as well. On most Saturday's the have a free(tip the driver) horse and carriage ride around the restaurant and if caught at the right time, you can sit in a buggy. Pros: Great bakery, you might even be able to watch them make something. Cons: Nats in the dining room around tables. more

Tired of waiting... 9/14/2005

No matter what day of the week or time of day, the wait for the restaurant is apalling. The shortest wait we've had is 35 mins, and the longest 1 hr 45 mins. Ok, their fried chicken is probably the best in the area, but it is no way good enough to wait that long for. The restaurant is always packed and noisy - there's always large groups with numerous noisy children. People seem to lose their manners as soon as they reach the buffet bar - but it's amusing to watch old ladies jostle and fight over a chicken leg. The servers do the best they can to see that everyone is taken care of, but don't expect to have your glass re-filled immediately or plates cleared away promptly. We've been 5 times, and I can't be bothered to go again. Pros: Good food, Gorgeous pastries Cons: Parking/location, Waits, Ambience more
