Incredibly unprofessional, shoddy job and extremely rude 2/2/2011

This is a bit long, because I want to give the full picture. You be the judge: On Thursday, I came in with a pant-suit. He agreed to take up the hem up on the pant, to shorten the sleeves from the armhole, and to move the front buttons out to give me some breathing room. My mom and I (a long-time patron) thanked him profusely for doing this in three business days and said we’d be back on Monday. On Monday, I arrived at 9.45AM only to find the store closed (his posted hours are 9.30AM-7PM). To be fair, there was a snowstorm, but no message was left on his answering machine, nor did he notify me by phone despite the fact that he knew I was flying out the following day. I left a voice-message, reminding him of my flight, and asking him when I pick up my suit. No call back. The next morning, I left a second message. No call back. Three hours later, I called again. He picks up the phone and doesn't apologize for not calling me back. I come in. The pant legs are two different lengths—he claims because one of my shoulders is higher than the other. Ok, but, why didn’t he mark them the first time? He re-measured and agreed to re-hem. The jacket shoulders were standing above my shoulder, puckering, and the sleeve was too tight on my upper arm. He recognized this and agreed to fix it. He said that he would do it right away because he had to leave at 2.30 (his posted hours, again, are until 7PM). Because of this, I had to come in again, as soon as he called. I return, an hour later after he called and I immediately apologized that I’ve forgotten my checkbook at home. I told him that I’d left the house quickly b/c I knew he had to leave and just forgot it, “I’m really sorry,” I said. He said, “I need my money.” I try on the jacket. It’s puckering at the shoulder and pulling worse on the arm than it did before. I show him and calmly say that I don’t think it is flattering. He launches into convoluted explanations of why it’s not his fault, trying on other people’s jackets from the rack, to show me how mistaken I am. I tell him that I understand that he didn’t adjust the shoulder, but that since he shortened the sleeve it lays very badly and can he fix it, please? He refused to fix it. With his back to me, and in a very rude tone, complains about needing to leave, saying that there’s nothing wrong with the jacket and that he doesn’t like how this is going down. I told him I didn’t either. I said that I can’t wear it and that I’m going to have to bring it to someone else. He ignores me. Then, I ask him, “How should we handle the payment? I’m very sorry that I left my checkbook at home.” I offered all the money in my wallet and to leave him my address and phone number and mail him a check (mind you, my Mom has been going to him for over 15 years). His response, “I need my money.” I offered to go home to get my checkbook. His response, “Why did you leave the house without your checkbook? I NEED MY MONEY!” At this point, I was very upset—I felt ripped off and hung out to dry with a jacket that I can’t wear. I asked him if he intended to charge me the full amount. “Yes,” he said, in aggressive disbelief. I went to a local ATM and came back to pay him. He was praying and completely ignored me for 3 full minutes. I paid him, he gave me change. And then he denied ever getting my two messages. In short, this business is not accountable to its clients, doesn’t care about customer satisfaction and apparently had no interested in keeping long-term customers. No one in my family will go to him, ever again. more

RUDE,HOSTILE,AGRESSIVE business OWNER 8/15/2010

8/14/2010 ..\r Delmar Custom Tailors & Cleaners… 226 Delaware Ave. Delmar, NY 12054 528-475-0883, \r I needed to have a silk dress fitted for an upcoming weeding. I proceeded to call the owner on Saturday, Aug 14, 2010 in the morning...as per his request… he said he will start working on the dress and would call me when he finished. The owner called me back and said the dress was done. I showed up within the hour, I had my daughter with me. I tried on the dress and went to look at it in the mirror he had already sat down and started to work on something else. I saw that there was thumb print stain on the front of the dress...and the dress was too tight...The dress is brand new! He didn't even look up from the work he was doing...As almost he knew, he continued to ignore me...I asked if he knew why there was a stain in clear view on the front of the dress, he proceeded to say it's not my fault and I needed to pay the bill. I asked him nicely if he would come over and please talk to me about the situation, because every since I walked in the door he was too busy working and could care less about customer service. He said I don't need to come over and talk to you, I’m not your child...I said can we bring it over to the cleaners and have it looked at, he said pay the bill. I went in the dressing room and took it off. He proceeded to come over to me at that point in a hurry to grab the dress in a rush…I had my daughter with me and she started to get scared, he was trying to grab the dress. I grabbed my daughter and proceeded out the door with my dress. I called the police because he was extremely hostile, he keep saying; I’m going to call the police, at that point I knew this was going too far and I called the police, he was telling me he knew people?! Two police cars showed up as I waited in my car, the police took a statement from me, I had my husband come and pay for the dress, I didn't want to be any-where near him, he was too hostile and screaming. The police followed my husband in to pay for the dress and he was screaming and yelling. When my husband walked out to spoke to the police officers, the owner came running out ranting and raving that he wanted both the Police officers names...he is rude, out of control. I paid for the dress ($55.00) and proceed to drop it off at the dry cleaners to try to have it cleaned. I have looked into this business and the owner and since then, have discovered that the police have been over there numerous times and that there are many negative reviews on the business owner. He is a terrible asset to Delmar.\r more

Terrible Business Practices 4/3/2009

I rarely write reviews, but I certainly wish I had read these other reviews before I went. I have never been treated so poorly by a small business owner as I have by Andrew, the tailor and owner of this shop. He actually accused me of being dishonest and unprofessional when he was, in fact, guilty of several errors with tailoring a dress and completely overcharging me. Please give your business to someone with better customer service and more honest business practices Pros: the dress fits Cons: very rude, dishonest, unprofessional owner, expensive more

You Decide 2/12/2009

On October 18, 2008, I brought a two piece suit to Delmar Custom Tailors to be fixed and altered.\r \r On arriving the following Saturday, the tailor showed me the fix that he had done to the jacket. He and I agreed the fix was not very good. He suggested he could send the jacket to NYC where the jacket could be rewoven and it would look ?as good as new?. I told him that I paid $600 for the suit and it would be worth it to have him send it to NYC. He would keep the pants and I could pick the entire suit up around November 8, 2008.\r \r Between November 8, 2008 and January 16, 2009 I had stopped at the tailors several times to find out if my suit was back and finished. Every time I stopped in, he gave me a different excuse as to why the suit was not there.\r \r Finally, I had my son go with me on January 17, 2009 to get a specific reason why the suit was neither back nor done. He stated this time, 3 months later, that he gave my $600 suit to the Salvation Army.\r \r The tailor gave me two options. 1) I could let his insurance handle it or 2) He would get me a suit. I asked how he was going to get me a suit. 1) ?Are you going to give me the money to buy a suit?? Which he replied ?No, I will get you a suit? and 2) ?Are you going to take me shopping to buy me a suit?? Which he replied ?No, I will get you suit.? \r \r At this point I became so disgusted over the situation I walked out leaving my son inside to handle the matter.\r \r On January 21, 2009, I filed a small claims action against Delmar Custom Tailors.\r \r On February 6, 2009 I received a letter from the tailor stating ?he found my suit? on January 30, 2009. I went to the tailors on February 9, 2009 to retrieve my suit. He never fixed the jacket because he never sent the suit to NYC.\r \r After 3 ? months of excuses, it took a small claims action against the tailor to ?help him find my suit.? \r \r Should you use this tailor? After you have read this review only you the reader can decide.\r more

A NIGHTMARE!! 7/27/2007

DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS! I BROUGHT IN A SUIT FOR ALTERATIONS AND CLEANING ON A MONDAY, AND NOTIFIED THEM I NEEDED IT BACK BEFORE SATURDAY, AS I HAD A WEDDING TO ATTEND. THEY INFORMED ME THEY WERE CLOSED FRIDAY & SATURDAY, BUT ASSURED ME THEY'D HAVE IT DONE BY THURSDAY. I RECEIVED A CALL @ 9:15 ON WEDNESDAY SAYING HE FORGOT HOW MUCH TO TAKE OUT OF THE PANT WAIST!! HE THEN SAID TO CALL HIM @ 11:30 ON THURSDAY TO GET A PICK UP TIME. I CALLED AS INSTRUCTED ONLY TO BE TOLD HE DIDN'T HAVE MY SUIT - IT WAS AT HIS OTHER SHOP. I TOLD HIM I WOULD BE BY AFTER WORK TO GET MY SUIT, AND WHEN I SHOWED UP @ 5:15 THE SHOP WAS CLOSED!! HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE OPEN UNTIL 7PM, AND HE TOLD ME HE WOULD HAVE MY SUIT WHEN I STOPPED AFTER WORK. HE HAS NOW HELD MY SUIT HOSTAGE ALL WEEKEND AND I CAN NOT WEAR IT TO MY FAMILY'S WEDDING!! HOW DIFFICULT SHOULD IT BE FOR A TAILOR TO ALTER THE WAIST ON A PAIR OF PANTS AND DRY CLEAN A SUIT AND SHIRT? I RECEIVED NOTHING BUT FALSE ASSURANCES, DECEITFUL ANSWERS AND A GENERAL RUN AROUND MY THIS BUSINESS AND THE OWNER. HE WAS RUDE AND DEMEANING TO ME. I HOPE HE GOES OUT OF BUSINESS AND LEAVES TOWN!!
