My girlfriend and I attempted to stay at the Debonair in West Haven, CT in early August '09, for it seemed quaint and retro from the outside. Room smelled very musty. Cold tiled floor with a dirty cheap blue area rug. Really crappy construction of the building. Very tiny, dirty bathroom. Decided we wanted to sleep in our clothes on top of the bedspread because the sheets looked dirty and smelled terrible. At about 12am, we heard a continues loud knock coming from a couple doors down. Cracked my door to see what was going on, and saw a shady looking guy who kept saying ""Jimmy, let me in...I need it bad"". At the same time, I saw a man and a woman (who did not look like a couple at all [not to mention she was wearing thigh-high boots and a very short mini skirt]) drive over to a room from the check in office, and enter with absolutely no luggage. Finally, it was when we saw a mouse that we decided it was time to leave. Desk person refused to give us a refund though we'd only been there a couple of hours. After 15 minutes of us arguing with the desk person and he continuously saying ""Yeah, you want to come here and have your good time, and leave without having to pay"", he finally agreed. However, it took a half hour for him to process our refund, in which time he'd taken care of a few ""patrons"". It's a great location across from the beach...But it's just not worth it
