Not the place for a perm 1/6/2011

Not the place for a perm. This was a new salon for me, but I had high hopes after reading the reviews and their website. After a consultation, the stylist seemed to understand exactly what I wanted in a perm - full, bouncy spiral curls. Unfortunately what I ended up with was limp, soft ripples through my hair.\r \r Although the salon refunded the price of the perm ($175.00) they did not refund the cut or blow dry. Now I’m out $68.00, have limp, stringy hair and need to wait months until I can re-perm. A truly disappointing experience.\r more

Best Bob 6/5/2010

I didn't want to write a review based on one visit to a salon, strictly because when I thought I had found a great stylist, the next cuts were lopsided, too short, stylist appeared hungover , etc.etc.\r \r I decided to try Davis when I googled salons. It looked like they had great reviews, They have so many stylists, but decided on Linda based on her salon profile.\r \r I have been to her four times, and each time my bob cut has been right on. Sometimes she cuts it dry, sometimes wet...but each time it falls into place beautifully.\r \r I am very happy with Linda, but just a warning, don't plan on having to be somewhere after...she tends to run behind a bit and take her time (which I am grateful) Pros: Consistent Cons: None so far more

FINALLY! 2/26/2010

If you're reading this, you were in my position: searching for a stylist, not wanting another uninspired cut and not knowing where to go. Stop Searching, Call Torrie. I didn't know her or Davis Hairdressing other than that they were close to me, but I read the reviews and decided to go for it: I couldn't be more happy. I was ready for a cut from long hair to short, and Torrie worked with me until I was completely comfortable with where we were going. AND I GOT THE BEST STYLE EVER! It's literally a style that you can get up in the morning, run your fingers through it, and go. Plus, it's an actual STYLE, not just a cut. I get so many compliments, and I feel great. Trust Torrie. I have found my stylist, and I'm not looking back. Torrie, thank you, you're a dear. Cons: none! more

hidden hardcore haircuts! 2/15/2010

Hidden among shops filled with imported treats and bakeries galore you'll find Davis Hairdressing, a salon loved by many of the Metro West ladies who lunch. Not exactly the place you would think you'd seem me walking out of with a wide curly mohawk and a lightening bolt shaved into the side. Don't let the neighborhood fool you, there are some rockin' talents just inside the door (ok, and up the stairs.) I found Davis Hairdressing online while searching for some place with funky stylist out in the Newton/Wellesley area. I poked around their site and really appreciated what I saw. Not only do I get the best haircuts of my life their but they go a lot of good for this world. They are very good about giving back whatever they can. I also liked that they seemed very dedicated to life long learning for their employees. Their customer service is fantastic as well. They offer you a robe, they offer tea or coffee, there are lots of look books to go through if you are unsure of what look to go for. Always magic fingers in the shampoo room. They also have the guidance of great hairdressers. I have seen both Jennifer and Lilly. Great women. I like to chat when I am getting my hair done and they are both very friendly and easy to talk with. The salon itself is very nice. It's clean and warm and stylish. They even have exposed brick! Love it. I have been going to see Lilly for a while now. Every time she cuts my hair the style changes just a little bit. Totally in a good way. My hairstyle has evolved with the help of Lilly's skill and creativity while always staying true to my aesthetic. I always feel confidant and refreshed when I walk out of Davis. Pros: found a little funk west of the allston/brighton tolls. Cons: not expensive but more than I would like to pay. more

Great Experience-Ask for JIll 2/1/2010

I have been going to Davis for years and have been going to the same person from day 1. Jill S. always does a great job whether I go in with a picture or I just tell her to do whatever she thinks will look good. She knows so much about color and I really trust her when it comes to trying something new. She is up on all the latest trends and has great hair herself which is always a good sign! She is also great at up-do's and she did my hair for my wedding. She is really easy to talk to, very funny and down to earth. I can't recommend Jill enough to anyone out there looking for a great hair dresser. They also give great shampoos here..very relaxing and enjoyable. Great staff all around. more

Very Pleased 10/11/2009

I'm particular...VERY particular. \r I am from DC and could not find a stylist in the Boston area that I have been happy with. I have been to a couple of salons on Newbury Street that have left me looking like JonBonJovie in his heyday.\r I have curly hair ..\r \r A coworker gave me a $20 dollar gift card to try her stylist, Linda Cohen-Flynn at Davis.\r \r The first time I saw her was a saturday. She was running behind about 10 minutes. She introduced herself, and had someone get me coffee.\r We chatted instead of getting shampooed first which I was happy about since my hair is completely different wet. She listened very carefully to my concerns...asked me about what I do with my hair, products , blowdry etc.\r I was nervous...but it came out exactly like my beloved DC stylist cuts it.\r \r The second time I saw her I was 15 min late do to the T breaking down. I was nervous she was going to rush me...instead, she took me with a smile and apologized to her next client for being late. The service I received at Davis was impeccable. Give yourself plenty of time for parking and to walk around ..... Pros: Stylist /Salon Cons: Parking not easy on a Saturday more

Davis is a breath of fresh air. 1/17/2009

I love the atmosphere at Davis and the staff is really nice and outgoing. I really like how un-cluttered and relaxing it is and is in a great easily accessable location!! They are a little pricey but believe me the price is totally worth it. I've had my hair cut by Torrie there quite a few times now, and must say that since going to her I don't want to go anywhere else. Till recently I had been cutting my hair myself but was tired of having uneven hair. The first time Torrie cut my hair was to even out what I had done to it while keeping it as long as possible and she did an amazing job making it look right without making it too short. My hair was pretty long and boring and on my most recent visit with her I decided I wanted to try something totally different so I had her give me a very short and funky hair cut that I would definitely not trust most anyone else to do. I've had bad experiences with trying to get funky do's from other hair stylists, usually ending with me in tears. The funky cut came out so great and perfect and I have gotten compliments almost non-stop since. She's very talented in all kinds of hairstyles from simple to really funky/trendy, and listens to what you have to say and offers brilliant suggestions and really knows what she's talking about and doesn't make you feel rushed. I highly recommend anyone checking out Davis for the first time to make your appointment with her. You will for sure be pleased! more

Fab Haircut for 50 bucks! 12/8/2008

I am not very apt to let just anyone touch or cut my hair. I only get my hair cut a few times a year because a. I hadn't found someone i trusted in the area, b. I'm poor and c. I'm kinda lazy. As a recent college grad, I was not prepared to pay 100 dollars for a cut and blowdry. \r After reading many glowing reviews of Davis, and driving past it every day on my way to and from work in Newtonville, I called and got an appointment that same afternoon. I met Lisa and we immediately got along like old friends. She made me feel totally at ease and had a good sense of my hair and personality. \r The wash was amazing, neck massage and all. Lisa spent over and hour cutting and blowing out my long curly hair and the result was unbelievable. I am SO thrilled with my new cut and absolutely recommend Davis to anyone looking for high class style and reasonable prices. Pros: Location, Price, Personalized service more

I Highly Recommend Davis Hairdressing and Their Stylist, Torrie Dwyer 10/31/2008

I have had several great experiences with Davis and the stylist, Torrie Dwyer, and I wanted to make my opinion available to others. I was recently married and a month before my wedding I started losing a lot of hair due to thyroid treatments. I was really nervous that my hair wouldn't even be presentable for my wedding and I'd have to get a wig or get really creative. I had long hair at the time, it was down to the middle of my back. I knew I would have better luck with a shorter cut because that would make my hair appear to be more full. A friend of mine recommended Torrie to me. I figured nothing could be worse then what my hair looked like while it thinned out, so I took a chance on a new stylist. I wasn't expecting miracles, but I feel like Torrie came close to it! She cut my hair to just a little longer than shoulder length and gave me just a few layers. It was much better than I could have hoped for!\r \r Several months after my wedding, I wanted a more drastic cut. I made an appointment at Davis with Torrie and she helped me pick a style that would be appropriate for my features. I went from a fairly plain cut to an edgier version of a bob. I have maintained this style for about six months now and will keep it up until I am ready for something new. \r \r Torrie really takes her time with details when she works with a client. That is so hard to find in a stylist! I feel like she really connects with her clients and dedicates her time with them to making them look good. As long as she is working in the Boston area, I will only go to her for my hair cuts!\r \r more

Great experience! 10/27/2008

I am new to the area and I actually learned about the salon from this website and figured since I live right around the corner that I'd check it out. Thanks to the helpful receptionist I saw Torrie- who gave me the exact haircut I wanted. I showed her a picture and she actually made my mop look JUST LIKE IT. Also- everyone in the place was really warm and welcoming. The coffee the assistant made me was better than Starbucks! Not to mention she gave me the best shampoo ever, and was a RIOT. I wish I could remember her name. Anyway- It's a great salon in a cute area and very reasonably priced. They also gave me a bag of free stuff and had me fill out a short questionaire so they could send me a $20 off certificate in the mail for my next visit. Needless to say, I'll be back! A+ ! Pros: Easy parking, Great coffee, Not too expensive, Friendly staff more

Best Salon and Service Anywhere 9/17/2008

I was just introduced to Davis by my girlfriend. She had been going there for years and recently had been seeing Tan for blowdry's. He is great and recommended getting her hair relaxed to make it more managable. He told her to go see Amy Smith. Well, her hair has never looked better so I thought I would give it a try. Let me tell you! My hair doesn't even seem like my own hair anymore. It is smooth, NOT frizzy, and takes half the time to blowdry with NO flat iron. Amy worked a miracle with my hair. Anyone with curly, wavy, frizzy hair needs to see Amy Smith right away. This lasts 6 months and really isn't exspensive. The rest of the salon is great too. I was greeted and introduced to Amy and offered water, coffee or tea. The girl who washed me out, Tatiana, gave the best head massage too. I am telling all my girlfriends about Davis! Pros: Very Professional, Exactly What I Wanted. more

FINALLY! Fabulous haircut 3/14/2008

I'm a REAL haircut snob. I moved to Boston eight months ago and had been going to a salon I wasn't happy with at all but was not looking forward to a trial and error search for a good one. After a particularly painful color experience, I quit the old place. Davis was recommended by a woman at work who is REALLY particular about her hair so I went -- wow! Haircut was perfect...right on trend. After not being listened to for eight months, it was nice to actually have someone (Katie) who understood exactly what I wanted to do with my hair AND the cost was only 50 dollars...as opposed to the 125 I had been paying. AMAZING! Area is really cute too...lots of little shops around. Looking forward to trying a restaurant around the corner after my next appointment when I'm not as pressed for time. Pros: tremendous value, fabulous cut more

BEST HIGHLIGHTS! 8/22/2007

I was referred to Rose by a friend and I lucked out! I met with her and she was great! Young, hip, in style and I could totally tell she knew her stuff with hair color, highlights, cuts, etc. We talked for a bit and she listened to what I wanted and understood exactly what that was. She took the time to show me swatches of color so it would be perfect to my hair color. She gave me highlights and lowlights so it would be perfect. She is a color genius!!! Before Rose did my hair, I always felt I had too many shades of color in my hair, now it is perfect. I get MORE compliments on my hair (especially the color of it) and ALWAYS get asked 'who did your hair' and I tell them Rose at Davis! I figured she must be a great stylist since she is books up fast too! Pros: Rose!!! more

Best cut and color ever!! 8/21/2007

I jump from salon to salon never happy. Well, I walked into davis and keep coming back. I have visited a few of the stylists, from ""advanced colorists"" to newly appointed stylists. I feel like they really try to understand what it is that I want before they begin the service. My apointments are always on time, and they explain to me the whole process. The stylists all know what they are talking about, and even show me the color that my highlights would be. I was a bit nervous at first, but I have not stopped getting compliments from everyone! I have reffered everyone from my boyfriend, to my best friend, and family! The service is wonderful, and the staff is super nice and talented. They answered any questions I had from haircare to products, and even helped me pick it out. They even called after my service to see if everything was great! Well it was! Thank you Davis, for my great cut and color! The best I've had! Please visit, you won't be sorry! Pros: Great atmosphere, stylists all skilled more

Best Haircut I Ever Had... 5/10/2006

I have been going to Davis Hairdressing for many years and have always left with a great cut and color. I would highly, highly recommend Davis for its very talented stylists and cutting edge styling products. more

Highly Recommended 5/9/2006

I've been a client of Davis since 1999. Prior to that I had a 'fear' of Hair Salons! I'm very fortunate to have found a salon where I can trust I'll receive exactly what I want, along with the highest level of standards & application skills from the team. I say 'team' because when I visit, I feel like I'm being treated in the highest regard by front desk management, my hair technician, and even the assistants. The overall environment of the salon is relaxed, yet classy - AND - when you leave, you felt like you just had a day at the spa! Tell your friends! Pros: Spa-like treatment, skill, value more

Worst haircut I've ever had 5/21/2005

While the atmosphere is funky and classy, the cut i got left me wishing for a paper bag to put over my head. I told the stylist my current haircut was just two lengths and i wanted the layers blended more, and that i was afraid of my hair looking like a bowl-cut. well, i left an hour later with a bowl cut on top of a bowl cut. now my hair is evenly cut at precisely two lengths, giving me the most unappealing and fustratingly hard to work with haircut i've ever had. this is the first and only haircut since i've kept my hair short that has not worked out, making me feel like this was a particularly incompetant stylist. more
