A useless doctor for an exorbitant price: $1500 for an initial two-hour visit, $250 for 30-min follow-ups. He could not even conduct the initial assessment interview properly - towards the end of the two-hour session he did not know key facts of my history. He engaged in socializing wasting valuable time. He also did not prescribe well for me - I had akathisia, a horrible reaction to a medication, and he was giving me semi-effective band-aids in the form of more medications, whereas I needed to be switched to another medication (which was later done by a less expensive doctor) to get rid of akathisia. So you are paying for a posh office in Portola Valley, for a cute doggie that enters the examination room whenever it wishes (and diverts the attention of the doctor), and for feeding the huge ego of the doctor. I'm 50+. Most of my life I thought of psychiatry on par with tribal head-shrinking. I'm a 100mph hard-driver; think Type ""A' on 'roids. :-) On the advice a couple dear people, I went to Dr. Wexler and was finally able to tame the tiger I've been riding most of my life. Life is great. Seriously... Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service, Office Person, M. ;-o) Cons: ummmm.... NONE! (so far) more

I am so thankful to Dr. Wexler. He is kind, wonderfully compassionate, and most importantly a master using psychiatric medications. I am so appreciative of his dedication in working with my other doctors and therapist. A real mensch. more

Dr Wexler is an extremely bright, highly competent psychiatrist. His specialty is the biochemistry of psychiatric illnesses, i.e. the prescribing and adjustment of medications. He will take the time to fight with your insurance company to get you the medication you need, even if not on their formulary. Many docs can't be bothered. He is expensive, not on any insurance plans, and I believe there is a long wait for new patients. But if you can afford him, he is worth it.
