The sushi is amazing as are the other things like tempura and Teriyaki. I'm converted, a big fan. The waiters and waitresses are all very nice and I love the sushi. it is very convenient bc It next to the movies GO it will be an excellent experience Pros: Sooolooo good Cons: long wait more

Delicious and good service! 7/12/2009

It is a delicious place with a lot of different options. The best sushi in great neck by far. Yoshi the owner is very sweet and the waiters will remember you if you come back. They are also very good about substitutions. The fish is always fresh. Its a tad expensive but everything in great neck is. Very good Pros: Good fish, creative rolls Cons: expensive more

agreed with most of the people here 3/6/2009

Well the sushi is OK, not that great....I mean honestly its very fresh but I just didnt taste anything in their food. Im surprised it had so much customers the saturday night that i went to. The price is just rediculous...i mean who would pay so much for sushi when their is sushi as good as this place but for so much cheaper?..OH YEH Great neck snobs....right. Its just a place for richy rich people to hang out, nothing else. So sad. Pros: In a Nice Area Cons: The Price is too High more

choose a better place 3/3/2009

I go to many sushi restaurants and this one was in no way a good experience. I could not even tell the difference between the different types of fish. Meaning, the quality of fish was not that great. Go to a better place. I'de only come back if I came home one day and had no plans and nothing to eat at home. Pros: next to a theatre Cons: not great sushi more

horrible sushi 2/20/2009

The food wasn't that great. The sushi wasn't that good. It was like going to any average sushi place but just the price was just rediculous. You are just paying the price of eating on middle neck road. Nothing else. I would rather go to a top rated sushi restaurant and pay the same price and actually get good sushi. \r \r It seems all the rich residents just go there to show that they eat at Daruma. \r \r P.S: Owner is pretty stuck up. Look's like he has his usual stupid customers who obviously have no taste for sushi. Pros: Middle neck? Cons: Everything from taste, price, to service. more

Worst sushi ever 1/4/2008

When we moved to Great Neck from Manhattan we were told by numerous people to try the sushi at Daruma. Now maybe we were spoiled after having some of the best sushi spots to pick from in the city, but the bottom line with this place is that the decor wasn't the only thing that was dated. The sushi tasted like it had been left over from the day before and just generally was unappealing and unappetizing. The edamame, which we tend to use as a litmus test to validate the quality of a good sushi restaurant (much like fresh hot bread at an Italian restaurant) was cold, bland and just plain inedible.\r \r If you want really good sushi, exceptional service, and a more authentic spot for sushi in Great Neck make sure you check out Blue Fin...a little further North on Middle Neck Road. We discovered it by chance (it is outside of the main Great Neck shopping district), but are in love....hands down the best in town.\r \r \r more

yummy food...horrible atmosphere 5/10/2006

I guess it's really the people who go to Daruma who ruin the experience. It's loud, obnoxious and just plain Great Neck, but the food is fantastic. I'm a big fan of take-out from there... If you're not a regular, plan on waiting a while for a table. Pros: Food Cons: Atmosphere more

Phenomenal sushi!! I've never had better!! 3/25/2006

I first heard about Daruma on the news - apparently many celebrities and olympians love to frequent it (I even saw Sara Hughes when I went). But if that's not enough, the food was absolutely out-of-this-world! I ate at Nobu just two weeks prior, and even their (renowned) sushi didn't compare in freshness and taste. Also, the waitresses were VERY amenable and friendly (ask for Amy if you're worried about this). The ambiance was quite nice... even the sushi chefs welcomed me! I consider myself to be a sushi connoisseur, and I can truly say that Daruma is the best! BTW... their website is darumaoftokyo.com (though I hear they're soon going to renovate it). PS. I suggest their Futomaki, Lobster, Fantasy and Spencer Roll! Pros: Freshness, Service, Ambiance more

Pass On This One... 12/18/2005

The food is soso...I have had better. We sat at the bar so the service wasn't too bad...we got our sushi quickly, but it took forever to get water..and we ordered sake...WHO SERVES SAKE IN 2 LARGE TUMBLER GLASSES W/ A FEW PIECES OF CUCUMBER?????? It was horrible. We are never going back. Pros: Parking Cons: Price, Service, Sake more

Great food Worst service ever 3/29/2005

When we ate there the food was amongst the best sushi ever. But the waitresses had too many tables, were rushed (she couldn't wait for my friend and my order and left mid sentence),plain rude, and the food took almost an hour. Ambiance; ok some of the tapestries look more Peruvian than Japanese. Don't go unless for are not hungry at the time because the wait will make you starve. P.S. The manager does not care about customer input. Pros: Food Cons: Management, Food Prep time, Service more
