I went there with a friend on a Sat. night and was not impressed. The food was average at best. I had the Shrimp Creole which wasn't Creole at all. It was basically shrimp saut...

Bread Pudding Fix 11/5/2010

So here's the scenario -- three grownup females slowly, deliberately, even painstakingly subdividing the glorious white chocolate bread pudding, pretending that there is no possible way that any one of them could have easily polished off the whole portion alone. What nonsense! It's just a little self-delusion we practice so that we can justify dessert at lunch. more

Gumbo Like Your Mama Makes! 11/5/2010

I've been to Danton's three times and all on weekdays. The ambience is always soothing which is perfect for winding down after a day of work. The staff is very attentive and always have a smile on their faces. My favorites have been the gumbo, grilled catfish, and shrimp po-boy. I had the chicken and sausage gumbo and that roux....let me tell you.... It is rich, thick, and full of flavor just like it should be. more

Great Service 11/3/2010

I was given the best service by this guy named Fallon, and everything he suggested was superb on the menu!!I will be back! more

Houston's Best Seafood 10/28/2010

By far exceeded my expecations! The restaurant is all about being local from the photos on the wall to the menu items. Our server was incredible and attentive. He made a few recommendations and made sure we were happy during our meal. I had the grilled snapper and it was truly amazing. It was extremely fresh and the seasoning really brought out the flavors. We also tried the Crab Danton which had large jumbo lumps of crab meat mixed in a remoulade sauce. DELICIOUS! I will be back for their Sunday Brunch when they bring in thier blues band. Highly recommend Danton's! more

Not enough variety 9/14/2010

There are no Oysters Rockefeller or stuffed flounder on the menu, and their prices are too high. .........I'm glad we live in Seabrook. Seabrook, Kemah and Bacliff have much better seafood options. more

Not that great... 9/4/2010

I had dinner here tonight. Nothing special and way over priced... I had pecan snapper and it was just ok for $30. I believe you can go some other places that provide better quality with lower price. more

Excellent Service 5/1/2010

I am new to Houston. I drove by this place and decided to try it out later that day. The staff immediately welcomed me. I sat at the bar to order take out and had the bartender (a transplant from New Orleans due to Katrina) and a waiter take my order. The couple sitting next to me were extremely friendly and introduced me to the owner who was very courteous. You could tell this was family run place who cared about it's patrons. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for some good creole food and great service. Pros: Great service, friendly staff, very good food more

Coolest Oyster Bar I've been to 2/21/2010

We go to Danton's all the time and always have a Great experience. Sometimes we sit in the Oyster Bar where Brian and Lance take great care of us and sometimes we dine in the main dining room if we're feeling more private. The food is always great. We especially enjoy the dark roux gumbo and the best oysters on the half shell anywhere! For a special treat try the pecan crusted snapper or Mahi. Their White Chocolate Bread Pudding takes Bread pudding to another level. We've eaten at MANY seafood restaurants in town and around the world and this is our favorite. Pros: Best oysters and coldest beer in town more

If you want average come here 2/11/2010

We sat for about 10 minutes before our waiter even came by. Food was Landy-esqe at best and prices were high for the low quality and blandness Pros: location Cons: Service, food and price more

Poor service from server, great service from busser... 11/17/2009

My girlfriend and I were the first ones to walk into Danton's when they opened at 11am today. We have never been and decided to try something different from Pappa's Seafood House, a place we love. We were greeted and seated by the busser, after standing inside the front door for about 2 minutes. Long story short, our waitress didnt greet us with a smile and barely attended our table. The busser brought us the drinks and entrees. It took a long time to get our waitress' attention to get ketchup and cocktail sauce and she didnt even come by after the entrees were served to asked how things were. We ordered 2 crab bisques(not exactly the way we fancy but was okay with tabasco and crackers), the grilled Halibut with mixed veggies and dirty rice(the fish was EXCELLENT along with the sides), and the stuffed shrimp with dirty rice and onion rings(the shrimp was okay, with tabasco). I regret not getting the names of the awesome busser and the terrible waitress. We did however make it a point to pay our 20% tip directly to the busser and give the waitress nothing. Pros: Pros: Excellent Halibut, attentive busser Cons: Cons: bad/little-to-no service from waitress more

Great ""Gulf Coast Seafood"". Period. 10/8/2009

Great gumbo / oysters / shrimp / scallops / salads / wine specials. We prefer the bar setting - great atmosphere and personal knowledgable service. We applaud Dan, Kyle, and staff for obvious love and commitment to customers. Pros: No better Gumbo Cons: never had one! more

Great place for oysters 10/8/2009

We've had dinner there a couple of times. They have great gumbo and the best fried oysters I've ever had. They have good food, nice atmosphere, and very good service. Pros: Best fried oysters in town. more

Fantastic Food! 8/17/2009

I have been to Danton's several times. I love the menu and the daily specials are always intriguing. Everything I have had has been cooked to perfection. I am pretty picky about my seafood and as a cajun I'm pretty critical. The food is phenomenal. The garlic remoulade sauce is a good enough reason to go alone! A lot of people have been saying that it's closed on Sunday but i have been a couple times to their Sunday Blues Brunch! You don't want to miss it! The music is fantastic with one of te most diverse and pleasing brunch buffets I have ever had... I highly recommend checking it out! Pros: great food, awesome blues brunch Cons: None! more

you never know who you're waiting on 7/22/2009

My husband and I had been at a festival all afternoon and were wanting good seafood. Danton's was recommended by a friend. We were not dressed fancy but decided to go anyway. We were seated in the bar area at a table. Since we had a glass of wine at the festival, and had been in the sun, we were parched and just wanted water. The bartender/waitress kept trying to push cocktails on us, but we insisted we just wanted water. The server whispered to the manager something and he began eyeballing us. We noticed this, so of course looked at him back. He came by to ask if we needed something, but this just made us more uncomfortable. We were trying to have a relaxing dinner after a long day. I figured since we were dressed very casually they thought we were going to ditch out tab. My fish plate with crab was soaked in butter and bland. My husband's steak was overcooked. The server continually asked if we wanted anything besides water, while she smaked her gum at our table, and was playing with her hair behind the bar. I honestly expected a more professional atmosphere since the recommendation was from a friend in the industry, but will never return. We should have just gone to Trulucks. Pros: location Cons: judgmental server more

Average Food at Best-- 2/21/2009

This week we visited this place. First thing I noticed was a 16 ft aluminum ladder laying on the sidewalk up next to the front door....WHY..??? . we walked in, & got seated by a nice hostess and was promptly greeted by waitress...very pleasant....ordered our drinks...fast service... Pros: ok service Cons: average food more

Unfortunately Disappointed 2/15/2009

I LOVE seafood & eat it quite often, however, I'm not sure if I will be eating it at Danton's again anytime soon. Last night, I made my first visit to this establishment only to be very disappointed. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed a framed newspaper article behind the hostess stand that stated something to the effect of ""Danton's has some kinks, but it's seafood sings"". ""Kinks"" = understatement. Pros: Beautiful place, a LOT of potential, good ambience Cons: Very bad service, inattention to correctly seasoned/cooked food more

Good food (spotty service this time) 2/13/2009

The food was excellant. And the drinks were great as well. The service was a little spotty but forgivable. Pros: Can park w/o doing valet and the food obviously more

Great Po' Boys and Gumbo 1/7/2009

My husband and I have gone to Danton's a number of times for Happy Hour. We have always enjoyed the service in the oyster bar as well as the oysters, shrimp and gumbo. Last night we had dinner in the dining room at Danton's for the first time. The service was very good and our waiter very attentive. Unfortunately there was some confusion with our appetizer, the Oysters Kyle. Our entrees were served to us before the appetizer portion of Oysters Kyle that we ordered. As it turned out, another table had been served our Oysters Kyle. The waiter quickly apologized for the mistake and brought our appetizer but again, it was after our entrees were served. We wanted to sample a few things from Danton's extensive dinner menu so we shared the gulf coast seafood combo platter of grilled scallops and fried catfish with red beans and rice. We also ordered the gumbo and half an oyster Po' Boy. The scallops had a very strange taste, not as though they were wood fired as the menu indicated. My husband agreed that the scallops did not have a pleasant taste. The catfish was crispy and tasty as you would expect. The best part of the meal was the Po' Boy. It was loaded with oysters so much that is was difficult to contain them in the crusty delicious french bread. As usual, the gumbo had a very dark roux and was loaded with shrimp, oysters and crab. You can never go wrong with the gumbo at Danton's. It's consistently delicious. We agreed we would go back for the gumbo, Po' Boy and Oysters Kyle, but the remainder of our meal was average. Pros: Prompt Service, Parking, Location, relaxing atmosphere Cons: Closed on Sunday more

BEST SEAFOOD I've ever Had 11/9/2008

Delicious stuff shrimp, who would have thought just typing my mouth would water. My family goes in quite frequently, however being at school out of state I don't get to the join them. I have talked to my mom recently and all I can ask for is to make sure they make a reservation to come in while I'm home for Thanksgiving break. I crave stuffed shrimp and crab burgers. I truly miss Danton's warm and friendly environment. If you get a chance go in. You will not regret it! ALSO TRY THE PEANUT BUTTER PIE! I hear that Danton makes it for his Goddaughter for her Birthdays, Christmas and other holidays. It is super GREAT! Pros: Great Food, Service and Music! Cons: NONE! more

Best Gulf Coast Seafood in Houston 10/28/2008

I love seafood and prepare most myself just because usually restaurants are not as good as what I can do in my own kitchen. But, Danton's is the exception and hands down the best Gulf Coast seafood in town for two reasons: Simple, tasteful recipes and very fresh fish and ingredients. Debris sandwich brings a great New Orleans flavor to the menu along with the BBQ shrimp. Everything from the appetizers to the desserts are top notch. Pros: Great food that is very fresh Cons: Not exactly the lively atmosphere it could be more
