Charged us over $70 PER HOUR for office staff's time on the phone finding parts for a system Dan's sold us only 5 years ago. I have never heard of a HVAC business charging for office staff's time. Of course, we also paid for the tech to fix the system. First try, the system wasn't repaired correctly and I had to pay AGAIN for a tech to return to fix the system properly. more

Great company that stand's behind there work. My family has used them since 1996. They did a full install on our house duct work, furnace and a/c everything went great no problems at all. To this day they are still doing great work for us and would recommend them to anyone. more

We contracted with DTN for a $35K new construction geothermal project and had several issues; most resolved, some not.\r \r Most of the install crew was making a great effort to do a good job, the problems we had seemed to come from higher up.\r \r The groundloop was not installed in the agreed upon location and, without asking, Dan dug through an area of mature trees which we did not want disturbed. To make the situation completely unacceptable, DTN has been unwilling/unable to provide documentation as to the actual location of the groundloop. An excavator later 'found' a part of the groundloop and the DTN repair bill was over $1100 which was excessive considering there was minimal damage to the tubing and all excavation was provided by others.\r \r They were having some personnel problems resulting in different people on the job site and items specified during the pre-install walk through were not passed from one person to the next resulting in rework and project delays. e.g., despite being well documented a ceiling air return had to be moved a number of times since it was repeatedly installed in the way of upper cabinets.\r \r They invoiced the rough-in as 'complete' long before the rough-in was finished.\r \r The install included rigid forced air ducts in the attic and tape was falling off the duct insulation in many places even before the sheetrock was installed on the ceiling this required a callback to retape the insulation.\r \r We scheduled the finishout for a specific day and nobody showed up. No calls or emails, just didn't show.\r \r DTN submitted the final invoice but required another callback because the auxiliary heat was not connected and there was a large, red ""remove before use"" tag with specific instructions that had not been addressed. obviously a final system check had not been completed. more

I've used them for a few years now to work on a geothermal installed by a less-reputable and now out-of-business installer. My lessons: use someone local, and use someone who has good references. For geothermal, make sure your sub knows the technology, don't just use any heating company.\r \r My installer left a variety of problems that I have been having to fix over the years. Dan's techs have always been able to figure out the issue and solve it, from blower fan problems, ground loop pump issues, and refridgerant and pressure problems. They are very professional, and they work to schedule you in as soon as possible. Dan himself has come out at times to help make sure the repairs are done satisfactorily. \r \r My only regret? Not having them do the initial install. Pros: Knowledgable, Experienced, Reliable more

Good quality work. Poor communication from office staff to technicians means huge costs to you. 8/18/2008

Dan's does good, quality work. My job required a technician to install 15 ft of 7/8"" - 3/8"" lineset, braze six copper connections, and charge my system with refrigerant (I had previously ordered and installed the compressor, coils, electrical, and most of the lineset for a total of $1,700). The job for Dan's took about four hours. However, I asked for an estimate of parts and service prior to work beginning. Instead, I came from my office to find the technician halfway through the job. I had been told by Janine (office admin) that she would contact me with the required parts pricing and the service would be a flat rate, which is substantially less than the $103/hr rate. The technician completed the work, and I was charged the hourly rate. The necessary parts included five copper joints and fifteen ft of lineset. My price to order the parts is $225. I was charged $340 plus a $43 'parts acquisition fee'. The acquisition fee was because the technician was not told he needed to bring these parts. I had called the office twice to verify the necessary parts were in stock and would be on the truck. After haggling with Dan, he agreed to remove the $42.90 parts acquisition charge and lower the labor from $412 to $390. My final bill ended up about 50% higher than other contractors charge for similar work, but I have little recourse, as the work was started without a written quote. Pros: On time, good service. Cons: price, poor communication more
