Pleasantly Surprised 3/5/2010

I really enjoyed dining at the previous Chambers Kitchen and was disaapointed to hear it had been replaced by D'amico Kitchen. However, a great experience last night during ""restaurant week"" has helped me get over the loss. Had a wonderful dinner. The three course $30.00 Prix Fixe menu was great. Cauliflower soup with truffle oil was very flavorful. The waiter recommended the short ribs which were outstanding! Dessert was fine. Waiter was pleasant and knowledgable. Didn't try to upsell us on the bottle of wine. Will definitly be back to try other menu items. more

Chambers kitchen was good but now its d Amico kitchen 11/21/2009

We were at D'Amico Kitchen(it was Chambers Kitchen,we had very good experience) ,Minneapolis tonight. Check in 15 mins before our reservation( the reservation was 8:15). We waited 45 mins until almost 9:00, the hostess told us people are still having deserts , Well they should not have 8:15 reservation available for people. and The restaurant didnt offer us any drinks or food, or come over talk to us. So we left the restaurant. VEAY BAD SERVICE. They are over booked or the service is very slow, terrible restaurant management . more

Wonderful Dining Experience 9/23/2009

My husband brought me to Chambers Kitchen for our anniversary and we had a fantastic dinner. Our server was friendly and attentive. We had a memorable, absolutely delicious dinner. Dessert was amazing! I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a fancy expensive meal in Minneapolis. Pros: Delicious Food, Pleasant Service more

One of the best experiences I have had in the Twin Cities 9/12/2008

I went to Chambers Kitchen recently with my husband and had a terrific time. The space is incredibly unique with Damien Hirst prints surrounding the dining room. The kitchen is seperated by glass from the dining room, which is perfect because you can see the action, but not let the noise affect your dining experience. We had the tasting menu, which was a little expensive but worth every penney. Our server explained the preperation of each dish when it arrived and the flavors were immaculate. The dessert course was out of this world, we were bombarded with so many different flavors and blends it was like the finale of a firework display. We had a drink in there courtyard after dinner which is a must see if you haven't been there. Huge firepit, gorilla statue and cabanas make for a festive atmosphere. I am excited to go again! Pros: unique dining experience, great food and service Cons: did not see Jean-Georges, but was told he would be coming again soon :) more

Terrible Service spoils our date night! 6/10/2008

We went there for my wife's birthday and got the worst service. While the food was ok, the service was very inattentive and rude. Not something one would expect from a high end pricey restaurant. Our evening was ruined and we've sworn never to go back there again. There are many other great restaurants in town that would offer much better food and service at a more reasonable price. Cons: Terrible service, understaffed more

Great food and ok customer service 2/29/2008

I went to Chambers last weekend and it was great! I got the grouper and although it was a lot spicier than I anticipated, I thought it was great. The ginger flavor was great. more

Food and service very good, ambiance disappointing 9/28/2007

My brother and I dined here Sept 21 (Friday evening). We were greeted immediately and seated promptly (we had reservations) in the downstairs dining room . The server started by asking if we had any time constraints, which was nice. I started with a Ginger Margarita, which was quite good. Our appetizers were fabulous. My brother had bacon wrapped shrimp--large shrimp wrapped in Nueske's bacon (according to our waiter)--he then informed our waiter that he was thinking about cancelling his main dish order and having a few more orders of these! I had the special; heirloom tomatoes and house-made mozzarella. It was delicious, but a rather small portion for $12 (5 wedges of tomatoes and 5 banana-size slices of mozzarella). My brother had the beef tenderloin, done to the wellness specified, but beyond that was nothing special. I had the Duck a la O'range, which I thought was very good--super tender and flavorful. For dessert, he had the panna cotta with strawberries and lychee--excellent flavor and texture. I had the blueberry crumble with sweet-corn ice cream. The ice cream was REALLY good--very interesting and rich! The crumble was in a tall, narrow cup, so practically no crumble and all blueberry-disappointing to me. Our overall bill was about $140 for 3 courses, 2 alcoholic drinks and 2 N/A drinks. The service was excellent. Waiter was well informed and friendly. All the food and drinks were served at appropriate intervals. However, the ambiance was terrible. The room was super loud, and it was so dark that a man at the next table had the candle pulled over onto the middle of his placemat so he could read his menu. The chairs were super uncomfortable--they were slippery (I was wearing a silk blouse and sliding around on it) and the backs lounged so far back, that you can't sit with any part of your back on the chair while you eat, or your food would be in your lap. Overall the experience was pretty good, but I probably wouldn't go back unless someone else was paying. Pros: Service was great; some really great, creative items on the menu Cons: ambiance--too dark and loud more

nice outdoor patio 8/31/2007

Chambers is the equivalent of a fairly hot chick, that once you get to know her, you realize she isn't all that. Pros: good outdoor spaces Cons: lost its mojo more

Nice ambience, reasonable prices 5/14/2007

It's rather amusing to read prior reviews of this restaurant. It's either a pretentious venue of mediocrity or a place to put Minneapolis on the culinary map. Pros: ambience, outdoor bar, reasonable prices Cons: entrees could use a bit more of Vongerichten's pizazz more

LONG WAITS, SELF ABSORBED STAFF 5/10/2007

The staff seemed to be more concerned with flirting with its bar customers than helping people who had made reservations for dinner. The hostess that evening kept checking herself out in the windows and made us feel as if we were inconveniencing her even though her job was to get us seated. We had a group of 7 and weren't seated promptly. I wouldn't recommend going hungry because the food takes about an hour to come out. When dinner was finally served, it was good but portions were tiny. Pros: Ambience Cons: Service, Parking, Expensive more

Wonderful wedding anniversary 4/12/2007

This was our first visit to Chamber's Kitchen - what a treat! We were celebrating our 11 year wedding anniversary and wanted to try dinner somewhere new. We mentioned that the dinner was for our wedding anniversary when we booked our reservation through Open Table. We arrived on a very rainy evening and the valet gentleman held umbrellas for us and guided us to the door. The hostess warmly greeted us and wished us a happy anniversary. (We had put notes like this on other Open Table reservations for special occasions, but they were never acknowledged.) We were put in the restaurant in the back. It was quiet and intimate. The decor is vary modern, but not cold. Our server was wonderful! Very helpful with suggestions. The food was spectacular and well paced. We especially enjoyed the egg rolls, ginger fried rice, salmon with mushrooms and rhubarb, bacon wrapped shrimp and banana cake. Who could have known that fried rice could be amazing! Our server and the other staff kept water constantly filled - a big plus! Our desserts even had happy anniversary written in chocolate on the plates. And we spent less for better food and service than other restaurants that we have frequented. We will definitely go back and recommend it to all of our friends. Pros: Great food and service! Nothing like what you would probably cook at home. more

WANNABE Central 4/5/2007

I can't vouch for dinner, but for the bar scene, I must say I wasn't impressed. The bartenders took forever, literally 20 minutes, to get my friends and I drinks. The bar area on thr 5th floor is basically just a big white space with sleek, modern couches and tables scattered througout the space. The crowd there all seemed odd and wannabe cosmopolitans. I feel like Chambers is over the top, trying to hard to be ""chic and modern."" I don't think I would go back unless I was forced to. The atmosphere and people are a two thumbs down. Pros: nice location, very modern Cons: slow bar service, expensive not-so-great drinks, wanna be cosmo peeps central more

One of The Top Best Restaurants in Minneapolis 3/8/2007

When I say its one of the top best restaurants in Minneapolis, I mean it. I just signed up on City Search just to let everyone know that they HAVE to go there, if you haven't already been! Pros: Ambience, Service, Food and Wine- of course Cons: Parking- Need to valet more

Great place for cocktails 2/18/2007

After reading the editorial for the Chambers Kitchen I was really excited to go there for dinner. The restaurant is modern, sleek and urban. Good things - we were sitted immediately and the staff is very attentive. However, as far as the meal goes, the bread was stale (and this place has a pastry chef), appetizers okay and the entrees were average at best. After this experience if I were to go back it would be for cocktails only. Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: So - so food more

Not for me 1/23/2007

If you like stark, cold atnosphere, this is the place. Food so so, but few sides and no salad available. I heard this is changing. Sevice good and prices average for upscale restaurant. I personally will not go again except to meet friends for a drink. Pros: location Cons: ambience more

Absolutely FABULOUS! 1/8/2007

The best food I've had in ages! My husband and I are still talking about the appetizers we had and comparing desserts! The quality of the food is definitely worth the price. And the portions are perfect -- no need to worry about being too full for dessert, and the desserts are just the right size to end a wonderful meal. Definitely have one of their signature cocktails -- Cucumber/mint martinis. I thought it sounded like a strange combination, but it was very tasty and refreshing. The service was outstanding. We had a long leisurely dinner, feeling no pressure to hurry up and move out. Our server explained every entree, down to the cooking process and herbs used! She also provided great advice that helped each of us decide which entree would best fit the mood we were in. No disappointments! Save time to visit all the bars - even to just people watch. The Ice Bar rocks~ never seen anything like it. The rooftop bar provides great views of downtown. And everywhere you look, there is fabulous art work -- not the usual 'hotel-style' artwork, but the real thing. A taste of upscale dining in downtown Minneapolis. Pros: Food selection. Service. Drinks. Bars. Cons: Parking downtown is never easy. more

Treated Like Royalty 1/8/2007

I recently treated my parents (from Rochester) to a night on the town in the ""big city,"" for Christmas, so of course I took them to dinner at Chambers Kitchen! From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty; the hosts and servers were so incredibly warm and prompt. I definitely recommend going the full nine-yards with each person ordering their own appetizer, entree, and dessert (that way you can sample a lot of the menu items!). The portions are just right so that you feel indulged, but not stuffed by the end of the meal. (Not to mention the desserts are the best I have ever had in my life!) We all chose our own courses, the Chicken Samosas, Rice-Cracker Crusted Tuna, and Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp for appetizers. I had the Roasted Chicken for dinner (my parents had the Sea Bass and the Halibut), and you would think that it would be impossible to make chicken anything special, but it was served with long beans and the most delicious broth. For dessert we had the lemon tart, cheesecake and chocolate cake, and it was a close race between the lemon & cheesecake, but the cheesecake was the best I have ever had; it was so light and combined with tangerine sorbet. I recommend making an early reservation and then going to a show afterwards, since Chambers is located right in the Theatre District. (We went to the Nutcracker at the State Theater after dinner) Pros: Dessert, Service, Timing of Food Delivery, Ambience Cons: Need to make reservations for Sat. Night well in advance to get prime time more

Finally, A Mpls Restaurant Worthy of the Buzz! 12/24/2006

My wife and I are recent transplants from NYC, so we know what Jean-Georges (and David Rockwell) can do. The food was excellent--we enjoyed the Goat Cheese Fondue (which is really more like a scrumptuous blintz) and Chicken Samosas (fresh!), the mixed green salad, Mahi-Mahi (tangy and lightly spicy) and Duck L'Orange (cooked to medium rare perfection), and finished with the Passion-Souflee with Chocolate Sorbet (along with an additional scoop of Green Apple Sorbet), and it was ALL worth ordering again and again. I also eyed the sirloin longingly, I must admit--for next time for me, for sure. One oddity and deficit, really--no side dishes! We gladly would have paid for seasoned or even plain rice and perhaps some Asian greens as accompaniments (only the sirloin gets honored with a starch), or more gladly would have seen them included in the dishes. The service was attentive and professional (ask for Michael--he does a great job steering you through the menu without being pushy), if sometimes a bit uneven (salads came too fast and wine too slow). Overall, Chambers Kitchen was by far the best meal we've had in MN, in the most visually appealing, genuinely comfortable (great chairs!), hippest, 'all-the-beautiful-people' nightspot in town. Don't miss the ice bar and fire pit in the winter, and be sure to check out all the art around the hotel and restaurant. We can't wait to go back. Pros: Food, Ambience more

Impressed! 12/21/2006

I really like this place. I have only been for appetizers and drinks, but every time I have been very impressed. The apps were delicious. The service was great. Interesting art to wall around and look at. Dress your best or you?ll stick out in a bad way. I can?t wait to go back! Pros: Beautiful decor, Cool art, great service Cons: Expensive more

trendy social scene with great service 12/9/2006

Hip and trendy social scene. The menu is pretty small and could use more options as far as entrees go. However, there was an amazing appetizer of fresh mozzarella and fig! The flavors were very unique and complementary. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this restaurant. more
