Best

My wife and I dined on a Friday night here for the first time and were very pleased. The wait staff, both inside and out were very helpful and polite. We attended a play down town...

I will start out by saying that the food was well worth the price. It was expensive, but tasted phenomenal. However, while the service was attentive, the rude attitude and looks f...

So Good I Went Twice 10/23/2005

From the spinach gnocchi to the chocolate capuccino cake, the food was exquisite. As a solo, the owner Joe aka 'Bubba' and GM Berta made me feel right at home. My martini was plentiful and well concocted. The gnocchi is best described as cloud-like dollops of spinach & cheese in a very light yet deeply flavorful tomato cream sauce. The salad Mille was a palate pleasing diversion. I had the special, pounded pork loin chops dredged in a parmesan crumbs mix and served with a mash potato melange. The food was memorably delicious, the service ala Frederick just right, and all made for a surprisingly delightful evening. Damians is run by very skilled and talented folks who obviously enjoy what they are doing. Highly recommended! Pros: Very skilled kitchen, Great food, Welcoming Cons: Can be busy early, None more

Food Chick 6/8/2005

The Classic Caesar Salad is still made from scratch tableside for 2 or more guests. The value of the meal is comparable to other restaurants, and they serve large portions and will gladly package your extra food for take home. The Valet parking is comlimentary (tips are appreciated). Damian's was established in 1984 by Damian Mandola, and current owners Joseph Butera and Frankie B. Mandola since 1993, continue to provide the same wonderful food and experience. I highly recommend dining at Damian's. Pros: Caesar Salad, Complimentary Valet, Ambience more

good, but overpriced 4/5/2005

the best thing here is the free foccacia bread they serve you for free with your meal. it's by far the best foccacia bread ever! they are also the only restaurant in houston that serves spinach gnoche- which is by far the best as well. however, their prices are too high and they don't even have a lunch menu that offer cheaper prices with smaller portions. Pros: food Cons: valet parking , overpriced more

Very, Very, Good 2/20/2003

My wife had been bugging me to take her to Damians, and I finally did so for her birthday. For some reason they had the A/C and/or fans going on a cool fall evening, and the draft greatly reduced the dining experience. However, the overall dining pleasure was immeasurable. Great service, very good food, and a great atmosphere. This is a place where I would definitely return for that special occasion. Although the restaurant was busy, it was not overly loud like most other establishments. The drive downtown is well worth it. Pros: Food, Wine List, Service Cons: Air Conditioning, Fans more

AWESOME!!!!!! 1/27/2003

I love Damians. It is by far my favorite Italian restaurant (a close second would be Maggiano's) here in Houston. I would, and have, recommended it to many people. It is ideal for impressing possible business prospects and a wonderful atmosphere for special dates before going to the theatre. I thought the quest for authentic Italian foor in Houston was lost until I found Damian's. Excellent! Pros: Downtown, atmosphere, authentic italia food Cons: far from where I live more

Damian rules 1/27/2003

Damian's is the progenitor of Carraba's. It would be a genuine trajesty that Damian's would be relegated to second place behind Carraba's just because fewer people have experineced the original! Pros: Classic, Service, Food! Cons: wine list more

Way Over-rated 11/14/2002

After hearing much about Damian's when we moved to Houston, we decided to try it. We were very disappointed - the food was marginal as was the service. As our favorite food in Italian, it makes us very sad to think that this is billed to be the best Italian Houston has to offer- It must be living on its past reputation. Pros: easy to find Cons: why find it? more

THE BEST!!! 10/28/2002

Now, this is the place to go for some original Sicialian entrees. The salad......the pastas......the fish......the desserts........and the wines and coffees are the closest I've come to that remind me of back home--Brooklyn, N.Y. The other restaurants are facsimiles of the New York style restaurant that Damian's evokes. Definitely go for a special occasion or to impress that special someone. You won't be disappointed. Pros: food, service, selection more

Wonderful!! 10/27/2002

My boyfriend and I went there before going to a musical and the food was DELICIOUS!! I had the half moon stuffed veal and he had the sea bass and we finished off with the tirimisu. Everything was tasty and great! I totally recommend it if you're looking for Italian food in a romantic setting. Pros: Food, Service, Price more

Average food, High prices. 10/9/2002

I took my gf there for a nice dinner.. After seeing all the reviews I was a bit disappointed. It was decent food but a bit too over priced. Do not get the tiramasu.. it tastes way too bland. Pros: good service Cons: average food, overpriced more

Great, but not that great. 10/5/2002

Great food, but it doesn't have that authentic Italian quality. If you want real Italian, try Da Marco or another Mandola restaurant called La Mora, and check out Simposio. Maybe Damian should focus on roots instead of firing managers because they won't change their Arabic names to Mexican names (see article on Pesce). more

An excellent dining experience 10/3/2002

Damian's combines superb food with excellent service and atmosphere. I particularly enjoy the seafood selections. more

Consistant and friendly 8/8/2002

I have enyoyed this restaurant for the last 17 years and it has maintained its personality over that period of time. My wife and I feel it matches our personal needs and take advantage of it whenever we eat out alone more

GREAT 7/24/2002

I HAVE DINED AT DAMIANS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS ON MANY VISITS BOTH FOR PERSONAL PLEASURE AS WELL AS ENTERTAIN INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS. WHEN A RELAXING EXCELLENT QUALITY ITALIAN FOOD IS REQUESTED WE GO TO DAMIANS. more

Scrumptions Osso Bucco 7/23/2002

The best Osso Bucco in town. Hands down. It is so flavorful. I want every bite, even the marro. The Sicilian salad is the right combination of parmesan cheese, oil, onions, black olives and tomatoe. The Sea Bass is moist and spiced just right on a bed of white beans. Overall good basic italian. Pros: The food, The Valet, The service more
