As a certified KC BBQ Society judge, I have an extensive knowledge of the qualifications, styles, and tastes for great BBQ. I've been to virtually every great BBQ joint within a 50 mile radius of downtown Atlanta. When DBA BBQ first opened within a mile of my home in Va-Hi, I was really excited. We went in the first week and came away pleased, but not totally thrilled - the sides were AWESOME, but the pulled pork was too dry. Today, I went back after a four month hiatus and I was COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED with the great improvements they've made since opening. The pulled pork was vastly improved and the new wood smoker made the ribs what they should be - terrific and charred on the outside, yet still tender and smoky inside. The creamed corn was spectacular, cole slaw very good, and banana pudding was top notch. Even if you tried DBA before and came away with an average feeling, go back and give it a second shot - these guys are trying really hard, making major upgrades, really using true wood smoker now (much to the delight of those breathing the nearby air), and have a great personal touch. I concur with other reviewers about the service - from the host, to the waiter, to the owner himself (Matt), they were all very accomodating and engaging. We're definitely going back a third time - and likely more after that. I think that they're really onto something here now that the pork is on par with ATL's best BBQ joints. Coupled with the outstanding sides and excellent service - DBA is a winner...and a great value.
Pros: Best sides for a BBQ joint in ATL; new wood smoker
