Good Food Horrible Service 7/6/2010

As a former employee I am making this review strictly on the basis of what i have encountered. I used to frequent Cugini's as much as possible food was great cooked to perfection, Growing up in Queens NY I could not ask for more. When I applied to work there i was hired with in one week, and saw another side of Cugini's, the cleanliness is far far beyond what it needs to be, for warning to EVERYONE, the cooks in the back and especially the pizza makers barely wear gloves or even wash there hands, yes the management can deny this as much as they want and i was at fault also the floor and walls are covered in grime and dirt, just take a peek around the corner by the register or when you walk by to use the bathroom, un covered meats for heroes roaches in bathrooms, ovens barely ever clenaed only QUICKLY scrapped out at the end of the Day. Both owners over price there food and it is far from fresh, if every customer could truely honestly spend one day as an employee this resturant would lose all of it's clients, it saddens me because the owners are good people and mean well but have ABSOLUTLEY no idea how to run a business, also why only give discounts to police and fire fighters when 75% percent of your customers are Military Kinda funny to exclude them when the keep Hampton Roads Running. Pizza is made right in front of you so pay attention people and notice the employees are bare handed using ther aprons to clean there hands ALL DAY LONG, dipping there bare hands in and out of every topping container while making everyones pizza then touching counter tops stuff in the back smoking a cigarette than coming back and making more pizza, it grossed me out beyond belief, they try to hard to make what they call NY Style Pizza and Italian food, one it is Virginia so yes it will be different but if your not from NYC and never cooked food for TRUE NY'ers then dont clain NY Style yeah good food but not NY. Pros: Semi NYC Feel Cons: Dirty Restruant more

Great food and wonderful service! 3/2/2010

The food and service here was wonderful. The past few times i've been here everything was fresh and tasted amazing. Everyone was friendly and real family like, they could maybe make the restaurant a little bit bigger I imagine it gets crowded quick haven't been there for that yet. But overall i give them an A+. Pros: Great food Cons: Weird way of checking out more

Terrible service, good pizza 7/21/2009

This place has good pizza, maybe the best in town, but the service is terrible. Pros: Pretty Good Pizza Cons: High Prices for subpar service more

Great Italian Food! 5/20/2009

This is one of those store front independent restaurants that one hopes is good. I can honestly say Cugini's surpasses all expectations. The pizza has some of the best crust (not greasy) and sauce was some of the best I have ever had. The ravioli are plump and delicious. And the canoli are homemade and fabulous. They also have other unique dishes that are amazingly delicious like the strips of lightly breaded eggplant rolled and filled with ricotta cheese. Our other favorites were the soft warm garlic bread knots. None of us had anything we didn't find delicious. I wish I could have wrapped them up and brought them back to Cincinnati because we sure don't have any thing here that compares with Cugini's! (Sorry LaRosa's) Oh, and another big important thing for me were the bathrooms were very clean and the staff were friendly and efficient! Pros: The food was amazingly fresh and delious Cons: They are not in Cincinnati (where I am) more

AWESOME NYC STYLE PIZZA 4/27/2009

As a transplanted New Yorker, I finally found the pizza I grew up with. For anyone who loves REAL New York style pizza...this is the place for you. THANKS! Pros: The best tasting pizza in this area more

This place's service is not good 4/7/2009

I called because the food that was delivered was burnt and had no cheese inside, when I talked to the supervisor he told me that they served us old food that had been sitting there and that there was nothing that they could do because half of it had been eaten. There were onions in it when there shouldn't have been. I am very displeased with this place. My husband used to LOVE this place and now we will NEVER order from there again! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: unsatisfactory service more

Wow! What Good Italian Food! 1/26/2009

I ate at Cugini's in Chesapeake for the first time this past Friday. We had the Antipasto salad and a pepperoni and mushroom pizza. The salad dressing, which they make at the restaurant, was outstanding, as was the salad. The pizza was hot, fresh, and delicious. I have never tasted a better crust. They were very generous with the toppings. We also had the garlic knots, which were served piping hot and covered with parmesan cheese! Yum. The restaurant has been under new management for the last 8 months. We learned from the new owner that he has expanded the menu, which consisted of everything imaginable - seafood, veal, pasta, stromboli, desserts, etc. If you love Italian food, then you need to try Cugini's - you won't be disappointed. more

Amazing food! Great lunch specials! 1/5/2009

This is the best Italian I have found in the area so far! I have lived here for 23 years and have only found a handful of places with great salads, pizza, garlic knots, etc. But you would normally have to go somewhere separate for the best of each. But, this place has great salads, pizza, pasta, garlic knots, desserts (cannolis) all in one place, which is very convenient. They also have great lunch specials (2-3 per day) to choose from everyday. Pros: Food, more

Best Pizza in area... Better under new management! 1/2/2009

Googled today to get the phone number so I could order another great pizza and noticed the last post.... Not to say this didn't happen in some form or fashion but I suspect the last reviewer is as ignorant as the name they choose for themselves. If this person acts like they write, I bet they ""ax"" a lot of questions and wonder when Obama is going to step in and subsidize pizza for all. I personally found their post annoying so maybe the people at Cugini's found the same to be true in person! Cugini's is one of the best around for Pizza and the like! Pros: Great Pizza! Cons: Need double door at entrance to keep temp in shop consistent.... more

Delivery is horrible! 12/23/2008

for starters, I ordered some food and the girl on the other line was rude and to say the least a bit short tempered! after placing the order she gave me my total which was completely wrong from which the delivery driver had! ( a fifteen dollar difference to be exact). I was told ""my food will be here shortly"" which I thought was a little bizzare, actually showed up a 1 hour and 35 minutes later. I called about thirty minutes prior and a different girl answered. I told her I placed an order about an hour ago and I was wondering where it was at, she said the delivery guy left about 5 minutes ago, well thirty minutes later he finally showes up....and arrived at my doorstep with an ATTITUDE!!!!!!! I almost snapped on him! but I didnt. I did tell him the girl told me he was on his way thirty minutes ago, and his response was ""she did??"" so non-chalantly..really p***ed me off....so no tip for him..........long story short........I do not recommend this restaurant to ANYBODY! very UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!! more

best pizza around! 7/30/2008

Cugini's has the best pizza in Hampton Roads! All of their menu items are great, but I've never had a better pizza in Virginia than Cugini's pizza. Also, there is only a $10 min for delivery, and the $5 delivery ""charge"" is the driver's tip. I don't think that's unreasonable. The food is so good, and reasonably priced. I wouldn't go anywhere else in Hampton Roads for great Italian food! Pros: Great food and service Cons: The bar, next door, sometimes draws unruly customers late at night. more

Awesome Food // Poor Customer Service 6/16/2007

I work around the corner from Cugini's and love it. Whenever my wife and kids meet me for lunch we come here to get a pie. I too frequent many Italian restaurants in search of the best pizza, and I think the search may be over. Their pizza is great, and their meat Stromboli is like something from another universe. However...I do have a complaint. A couple actually. With the Stromboli, (excellent) they offer a small plastic ramekin of marinara . It is not sufficient for the entire Stromboli. I asked for another and the waitress CHARGED ME $0.50!. I asked her if she was serious and she confirmed. I do alright, I'm not gonna miss a meal due the $0.50, but when I go out to eat, I like to feel like the restaurant is taking care of me. Complaint #2, Cugini's wants a $5.00 surcharge for deliveries with like a $15.00 min. I escalated this matter to the manager one day when I was too busy to leave work. He didn't budge. $5.00 to drive 1/4 mile around the corner where I work (with 300 other people). Pros: Awesome Food Cons: Trying too hard to make an ""extra"" buck more

Best tasting pizza outside of Italy 9/15/2006

As a novice food critic, I continually look for great Italian resturants. Cugini's, by far, out rank any pizza joints in and around Hampton Roads. I started eating there 4 years ago and absolutley refuse pizza from any other local establishment. Fresh, crisp hand-tossed dough, authentic sauces and the cheese seems to melt just right. Not too many ingredients just enough. I drive from Suffolk at least once a month to get their Pizza. Their pasta dishes are fabulous. Made with the same fresh ingredients. But don't take my word for it, I'm a novice. Pros: Their ingredients are fresh and prepared daily. Pizza, pasta and garlic knots...Mama Mia!! Cons: Parking can be cumbersome, due to lack of space for the whole shopping center, but worth the walk. more

Best Pizza around 7/11/2006

I've lived in Hampton Roads for 12 years and have never had a better slice of Pizza than a Cugini's slice. Everything about it is fresh. THe cheese, the sauce, the crust, the toppings are all the BIZOMB! Pros: The Pizza Cons: The Parking and the Traffic in the area. more

Best Pizza in Hampton Roads 7/18/2003

OK. I'm from NYC and moved to Hampton Roads about a year ago. We were so depressed to find that the local pizza was actually worse than pizza hut and papa johns. It is embarrassing to see Chanellos and Papa Johns nominated as top pizza spots in Hampton Roads. Cugini's uses real cheese, great topings, and has a fabulous crust. The garlic knots are also amazing.... Anyone choosing dominoes over cugini's probably has no taste buds..... A+ for Cugini's Pros: Authentic, Quality Ingredients, Free Delivery more
