GOD AWFUL. OVERPRICED, UNDERSEASONED, OVERRATED, AND UNDERWHELMING FOOD. 7/31/2007

NUFF SAID. if you want to pay $250 for ""secret kitchen 007 superdooper special garlic noodles"" and some overcooked junk shrimp (4 pieces for $40!!!!), by all means go here. the garlic noodles are the same as you would get in pfchangs. yes its noodles. wif garlic. not sure whats so secretive about it. seriously. go to pfchang, spend $25, and save your extra loot for suntin else. and by the way....if you order the sampler tapas appetizer platter you will seriously bust out laughing. $30+ for 3 people...its beef teriyaki, some nasty depe fried nasty rangoon thing, a potsticker (you can get better frozen ones at ralphs), and some other forgettable thing. you can get all this kind of stuff at any chinese restaurant that is 1/4 the price and taste better. i honestly cant believe the horrible quality of food and price they charge here. listen to me and avoid this place...trust me you will be better off without this experience. Pros: leaving the restaurant. Cons: everything man. werent you listening??? more

Horrible service, cold food, warm water - why spoil your meal in Beverly Hills when there's so much better?! 7/19/2007

So this was our second trip to LA and our second visit to Crustacean. I have to say that things went downhill in the 3 years between the two visits. Our San Pellegrino water came out warm. The appetizers came out cold. So at that point when the waiter asked how everything was we immediatley told him the issues. The waiter litterally chuckled thinking we were joking even though no one was smiling. Anyway, he asked what we wanted done and we asked him to fix everything. He went off and spoke to the manager and came back and said they'd give us free dessert and replaced our water. The entrees came and they too were horrible. This place really has no business serving food. After explaining to the waiter that we wre not sticking around for dessert, we asked for the cold appetizer to be credited. The waiter calls the manager and the manager discloses that the appetizer costs 80 dollars (the menu said 18.95). We asked to see the menu and the manager returned without the menu saying it would be credited. I'd highly highly recommend you do NOT dine at this excuse of a restaurant. Maybe go in and look at the fish tanks and then leave. Just don't do it. Pros: Nothing Cons: Food, Service, Noisy more

Average food, high prices but a beatiful spot at least 7/17/2007

I don't get this place. The kitchen is a secret place, only family is allowed, bad idea. They probably need to let someone else in there as I was not impressed at all with cuisine. It is a very beautiful restaurant if food isn't that important. Pros: Beautiful setting Cons: Average Food, very expensive more

BEST FOOD AND CATERING IN CALIFORNIA 7/6/2007

For my cousins 18th birthday we hired Crustacean to cater his party. The food was absolutley AMAZING!and the staff was soo nice-- i was amazed. we have used them for every event since and the food continues to awe us. Chef Helene's An's food is so healthy and light and the crab and noodles (a family favorite) is DELICIOUS! o-- and the new york steak is sooo juicy and tender. By far the GREATEST find ever! Pros: FOOD, STAFF, HOLLYWOOD CROWD, GARLIC NOODLES more

DELIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISH! 7/2/2007

My bf took me here for my bday and we really enjoyed ourselves. We were seated nearly right away. We even enjoyed our walk to our table over the Koi ""Walk on Water."" For those who don't know what I am talking about - to see it is to believe it...there is a river (covered in glass) of koi throughout the restaurant! It was definitely cool. Our server was amazing, polite and attentive. Upon learning it was our first time at the restaurant, he told us a little history about the An Family and suggested some of his favorites and what the restaurant was best known for (and what you will read about in the preceding reviews) the garlic noodles and cracked crab - needless to say, we followed suit and got what the place was known for! I must admit - that it was humorous to look around the swanky place at everyone with bibs tied around their necks! I enjoyed EVERYTHING I ate. I highly recommend getting the tapas appetizer with the dumpling, chicken satay, coconut shrimp, etc. YUUUUUUUUM! Enjoy! Pros: Great food, ambiance, and service Cons: Pricey but worth it more

delicious seafood 4/23/2007

The prices are sky-high, at least in my opinion, but I don't think you can find garlic baked crab of the same caliber at any ol' seafood joint. You can't pass up the garlic noodles either. Plus, the ambience is pretty amazing with the underground koi pond/aquarium that guests can walk on top of (you don't see that just anywhere...) Pros: crab and garlic noodles, ambience Cons: expensive more

Best Dungeness Crab you can get ... 4/16/2007

I've been to this place several times; once to this location, and several times in San Francisco. Pros: Food, service, atmosphere Cons: Not good for kids more

GREAT FOOD AND GREAT SERVICE 4/11/2007

I HAVE READTHE OTHER REVIEWS AND I GUESS I WENT ON A GOOD NIGHT. IT WAS A MONDAY AND WE HAD MADE RESERVATIONS FOR SIX FOR DINNER. WE WERE GREETED BY A VERY FRIENDLY HOST WHO SEATED US QUICKLY EVEN THOUGH WE WERE A HALF HOUR EARLY. I TOLD THEM I DID NOT WANT TO BE SEATED UPSTAIRS AND THAT I WOULD WAIT TILL MIDNIGHT IF THAT WAS THE CASE, WE WERE SEATED DOWNSTAIRS QUICKLY. WE ALL ORDERED COCKTAILS AND WHEN ONE PERSON IN OUR PARTY WANTED 7 UP IN HER DRINK, ONE OF THE STAFF ACTUALLY WENT DOWN THE STREET TO BUY A CAN FROM A STORE! NOW THATS SERVICE. NOW I HAVE BEEN IN GOOD RESTAURANTS AROUND THE WORLD AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT THE FOOD MET MY EXPECTATIONS. I WAS KIND OF WORRIED AFTER READING THE REVIEWS BUT WE ALL FOUND THE FOOD TO BE WONDERFUL. FROM THE CRAB TO THE NOODLES TO THE STEAK, EVERYTHING WAS TASTY. SO I GUESS MAYBE IT DEPENDS ON THE TIME AND DAY YOU GO, BECAUSE ALL WENT WELL ON OUR VISIT. OUR BILL CAME TO ABOUT $1000 BUT WITH TWO ROUNDS OF DRINKS AND TWO BOTTLES OF CHAMPGANE PLUS THE FOOD AND TIP, WE FIGURED IT WOULD BE ABOUT THAT MUCH. I AM GOING FOR LUNCH THIS WEEKEND SO WE'LL SEE IF ITS ANY DIFFERENT. SO I GIVE THE JOINT TWO THUMBS UP! AND IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR WATER, TELL THEM NOT TO BRING ANY. Pros: SERVICE, FOOD, DECOR. more

garlic noodles!!!! 4/10/2007

i have been to crustacean several times and the menu is just average. however, the garlic noodles and cracked crab swimming in garlic are EXCELLENT! i have had the prawn, and i was sadly disappointed. the dessert menu does not provide anything exciting. so the only thing that keeps me coming back are the garlic noodles and the crab! btw, eating here (especially with drinks) is not cheap. more

Don't Believe the Hype 4/1/2007

We were seated promptly but then it took 20 mins to order drinks and we had to ask for water 10 mins after that. We constantly had to raise our hands to get our servers attention and then the food came and it was lukewarm. We ordered the shrimp with garlic noodles (shrimp was overcooked), snap peas (delicious but almost cold) and the roasted crab (bland, nothing special). I had 3 lychee martinis with dinner and each one was totally different then the last (very annoying). My date and I will never go back! more

Beverly HIlls hype. 3/29/2007

Very romantic, beautiful ambiance, not to mention the Koi swimming, beneath the floors. This place is my boyfriend's favorite for the crab, and the ""to die for"" garlic noodles. He took me there for the first time, although it was really pretty.. real Beverly Hills-ish, the food was just okay, and waaay overpriced for what I had. I must admit the garlic noodles are yes, worth the hype, but the tiger prawns were overcooked and chewy. For the price I would expect them to make it perfect ( and $18 for a side of baby bok choy? hell no. I could buy a whole crate and cook the same myself for that price!) . Be sure to ask for tap water, or else you'll get $7 Fiji bottled water. Service was prompt, and our waiter was always attentive. There was even a point where I was so indulged with conversation, I forgot to put the napkin on my lap, the waiter quickly put it on for me. Unless you're going for the garlic noodles and crab, I wouldn't go back. Between the 2 of us, we had 2 entrees, 1 bottled water and 2 glasses of wine = $230 w/out tip. If you decide to go, make sure to get the garlic noodles , crab, and some wine. Thats pretty much that's all that's worth the price over there. Pros: beautiful ambiance, garlic noodles, crab ,great wine Cons: not so good quality for the price. more

Disappointed & Dissatisfied 3/19/2007

I waited a week to write my review because I thought it would allow me to calm down. I made reservations for a party of 6 for my mother's birthday only to arrive and be informed that we were not in the books. The rude man at the front said he could seat us outside on the noisy, cold sidewalk or in the noisy bar. I tried to reason that this mess up was not our fault and my father is hard of hearing so the available options were not reasonable. After much pointless communication with the chauvinistic host, we had to accept the bar seating. Then came the horrible service...bottled water when tap was requested, not enough glasses, wrong meals, etc. My father was unable to hear a thing. This had been my mother's favorite restaurant for many years until that night. The only positive part of the entire evening was my family and the food. Everything else leaves a lot to be desired. Pros: crab Cons: host, service more

VERY disappointed... SO OVER-RATED!... HOLD THE BUTTER! 3/1/2007

I've had catering from this restaurant before and was impressed with their food/service. I've attended events that hired these guys for catering, and again, was impressed. BUT... Cons: Price, Food more

A Dime a Dozen in NYC 2/17/2007

This seems to be a ""hotspot"" in LA. The food was good, but not worth the price. Typical second rate service. Loud and echoing because of the poorly designed accoustics, although it is pretty in a pretentious, glitzy, LA kind of way. Totally unimpressed. A pass for a second time. Pros: Valet Parking Cons: Mediocre food more

Best Catering 1/25/2007

I just went to the absolute best holiday party catered by Crustacean Restaurant. From trays of Garlic Noodles in minature take-out boxes to a gorgeous food table with Shrimp & Salmon to make delicious healthy wraps. Pros: Fabulous, Delicious, Gorgeous Cons: Can't imagine a con more

If you really want to treat the one you love to a night of absolutely fabulous, I stronly recommend Crustacean. The Garlic Noodles are so great, you both have to eat them to avoid worries later. Wrap it up with Chocolate Lava Cake. more

Very cliched, but yes the noodles are really good 12/20/2006

My friends and I went to gift exchange for Christmas and we really liked the holiday lights and decorations. We waited about 10-15 minutes to get seated passed our reservation time which wasn't too. The atmosphere is nice but a bit loud. Defenitely recommended to check out once. Pros: noodles, decor Cons: loud, bathroom line more

Best Restraunt Ever 11/20/2006

This is my ultimate favorite restraunt. I love the food the service and the atmosphere. I have been here a thousand times and it seems the food just keeps getting better and better. For all you first timers I would get the garlic noodles and the crab. And a word of advice don't share the garlic noodles get your own. more
