If one recalls cupcake or cookie decorating parties as a child, the process was always the same: load on as much frosting and candy as possible. The appeal of that heaping mess has diminished, but Crumbs manages to capture that same over-the-top presentation that was once so exhilerating. The 'candy cupcake' consists of a vanilla cake that is dense, but moist, is complemented by the chocolate buttercream frosting coated with a layer of mini m&ms. The 'hostess cupcake' is a cute replica of the original, but with a rich chocolate cake and vanilla buttercream middle, is clearly a tastier choice. The experience in the actual shop is just as alluring, with an enormous selection of colorful cupcakes and a friendly staff that offer their mini versions as samples. Though only blocks from Sprinkles, the cupcakes at Crumbs have the same high prices, but feel entirely worth the splurge for that taste of childhood.
Pros: Colorful cupcakes, Friendly staff
