Your meal starts with fresh baked breads. A nice touch of sweet cream butter and sea salt allows you to adjust to your taste. Also, the soft drinks are served old-school in glass bottles. White Corn Chowder is topped with Dungeness crab and a lemon verbena drizzle. This soup is light and refreshing. The corn is sweet and creamy. The Dungeness crab adds a bit of luxury. The lemon verbena adds a hint of lemon whose subtle flavor helps entwine all of the flavors together. Thumbs up, way up! Mary Alice's Pride Salad is topped with toasted pistachios, sheep more

When it has to be perfect! 4/7/2008

My husband and I have been going to The Five Crowns since my Senior Prom. Since that night, we have always spent every anniversary there (even when we celebrate out of town, we make it a point to go as soon as we get back). This July 1 we will be celebrating out 30th wedding anniversary--and we will be sure to spend an evening there. We celebrate as many occasions as we can: birthdays, anniversaries, our daughter's engagement --we've even thrown baby showers at the Five Crowns. It's a real tradition for us. All I can say is BRAVO! WE have NEVER, not once, not ever, been dissappointed. The food is always above par, and service impeccable. The clientel has never once, in thirty years, made us uncomfortable in any way. We love this place, alway recommend it, and hope to spend many a more wonderful evening there. more

Traumatic Experience 1/31/2008

Yes, the food & the service was very good, but my family & I will never go there again because of the snotty/snobby clientele. When I made the reservations on-line, I specified that a 13-month old baby would be with our party & when we arrived, they even had a high chair prepared. The manager came to us & told us to keep it down (heck, how could we tell that to a 13-month old???). Then, after we were 3/4 done with our meal, the complaining aged man came to our table & told us that our baby ruined his & his wife's 2-hour brunch & that we should not have taken our baby to a place like that. To top that, the wife starting using the ""f..."" word to the others around their table (is that CLASS or what???) We chose not to make a scene so we just left (& never to go back). Pros: Good food & service Cons: Certain clientele snobby more

Not for small children 1/27/2008

Another customer approached our table to complain about my 13-month-old child. I was appauled because this never happened before, and the noise level in the restaurant was already loud. Our table thought this man was joking, but he was a real snob. It was my first and last time to dine there. The food was good, but not worth it. more

Great prime rib! 11/27/2006

Part of the Lawry's family, so the prime rib is fantastic.... Especially if you can't get all the way to LA everytime you'd like to! Be sure to dry the creamed horseradish, it is to die for! Pros: great food, atmosphere Cons: price more

BEST PRIME RIB AROUND!!! 11/19/2006

Go to this place around Christmas time for the best atmosphere. The prime rib isn't better anywhere. This restaurant is my favorite place to take my family during the holidays. It's classy with excellent service. Pros: prime ribe (english cut) bread pudding, corn Cons: nothing more

OK Service, Average Food 6/18/2006

My Husband and I went for my Birthday last week and were surprised by the low quality of the Prime Rib. This place has gone downhill. The PR is better at Mimi's , save your $. The Salad with the creamy dressing was good. \r more

great dinner! 2/27/2006

We had a great dinner here and our server, Ms. Glass was also very nice. Out of all the Lawry's restaurants in LA, this was the best in food and ambience. we sat in the atrium room and it was very nice, would love to come during the day to see what it is like. We would definitely come here again. Since it was everyone's first time at the Five Crowns, our server gave us complimentary caffe lattes w/or w/o alcohol. The latte was very smooth and tasted great! Street parking is available or you can valet across the street for $4.50. Pros: food, ambience, service more

A great holiday meal... 12/26/2005

We went to Five Crowns for Thanksgiving and had a great experience - fantastic food -wonderful value - ridiculous wait (to be expected). We came back for Christmas and thought - WOW! What great service. It outshined the mediocre entres and overpriced first course. If you like prime rib - this is a great place. Steaks and fish are abundant in choice - but not in flavor. Service is - unfortunately - extremely dependant on the night and your server. We just came back from a third dreadful holiday outing. We've decided it's a ONCE A YEAR (Thanksgiving or Christmas) experience. Pros: Deserts, Good Parking, Holiday Decorations Cons: Expensive more

Overrated 9/22/2005

I would say the Five crowns has a great atmosphere, good service, and nice presentation. The food is just o.k. I wasn't impressed. We had the prime rib with crab and the sesame crusted halibut, so maybe we ordered the wrong things. Everything was great besides the food. The food was average and a bit overpriced. Pros: Sevice, Atmosphere, Presentation Cons: Average Food more
