Crown Candy Kitchen is one of the most unique, cultural places I've ever been to in STL. Their hot-dog sandwich is my personal favorite...but their malts are untouchable. It looks like it did in the 50's. I feel like I've stepped back in time everytime I go there. The service is great and friendly. Everyone Should Go 12/5/2004

I have been going to crown candys since i was born. I grew up on crowns and i have to say i have been to different ice cream shops; this one is the best. Everyone is so friendly, the ice cream is home made and the candy is fanstatic. Your whole family will love it. Especially the ladies fellows! Just go and see what im talking about. Its just a great atmosphere too. more

Don't Miss It!! 7/17/2004

Crown Candy Kitchen is an enjoyable part of History. I believe it is unique in the US. It has great food, great ice cream malts and sodas. Very fast service and helpful people in telling you what and how to order if you haven't been there before. It is in a neighborhood that needs some help but it is a safe place to go. When we were there, I recpognized Bill McCellan, a write for the paper and with him was the St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay. They waited for a table just like the rest of us. Tip Well !! Crown Candy Kitchen is like traveling back in time to a different era. The ambience, food, experience is first rate. This is a great place for tourists and fun for the whole family. Great food, ambience. Kids love it, but due to neighborhood we only go during daylight hours. Owners and staff are extremely friendly. Crown Candy is one of the last of it's kind from the old phone booth to the old juke box. If you're in the St. Louis area it's a place worth visiting. I recommend trying the B.L.T., piled high with bacon or the Reuben piled high with corned beef. I also recommend the chocolate bannana malt, which is my absolute favorite. A fun, historic place to eat. Don't miss the ice cream AND the chocolate, particularly at Easter time! Once you are seated (which can take a while) the service is breathtakingly fast. Despite the deterioration of the neighorhood this historic building and interior transports anybody, but especially older adults back to a simplier time. Just the kind of place that you NEED to go and take friends. You must plan to wait a little but it's worth it. What a joy to see an ""old"" family place that has survived time. I love the ambience of the place and the people who run this place are the ""BEST"" kind of people you could ever hope to get to know.
