Great Food, Terrible Mochas 6/30/2003

I LOVE Ruggles food and the desserts, they are both excellent. I only have one complaint: I don't understand how a place with such excellent food and dessert can have such terrible mochas. I have tried to order their mochas on several occasions, all the time hoping they would improve them. I have even sent one back and asked for a stronger one. Today I tried ordering a double and asked they make it extra strong. Every time, they tasted like dirty water. The presentation is great though, complete with a chocolate covered spoon and great cookie. more

great desserts! 5/25/2003

If you want a great dessert come here! Their white chocolate bread pudding is awesome.. It looks unappetizing at first in the display, but they take it back and heat it up in the oven. Then they play a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top.. its soooo good! more

Go for their Desserts (only) 3/21/2003

They have got a wonderful selection of delicious desserts -- we enjoyed the Tres Leches. However, my grilled chicken breast atop the salad was very dry. So was the grilled chicken in the sandwich my friend had. My suggestion is go there for dessert, after you've had a meal elsewhere. Pros: Good Dessert!, Good homemade pickles, Large portions! Cons: Dry chicken!, Dry chicken! more

best dessert 2/24/2003

great desserts, poor parking 1/30/2003

The desserts here are great, one of the best in Houston, especially the white chocolate bread pudding! Their huge salads and sandwiches are not to be missed either. Along with that, the staff is friendly, especially the busboys who always refills our drinks. My only pet-peeve though, is the intercom system they use to let you know when your food is ready. A few times, we've missed our names being called out because of the blaring music and background noise. Parking also needs to be improved. Pros: desserts Cons: parking more

Enormous Desserts! 11/6/2002

After seeing the #1 rating on Citysearch for ""Best Dessert, we checked Ruggles out yesterday. My husband and I got the Pork Loin sandwich, coffee, the Grand Mariner cake and the Molten Chocolate/Cherry cake for $27. To our regret, we realized we could have gottten away with sharing one dessert. We were stuffed and had leftovers. Everything was delicious, and the portion sizes made the price bearable. They have a $3 split plate fee, but we just ate off each other's plates. ;) Pros: many desserts!, excellent entrees, good coffee Cons: crowded, no table service, a little pricey more

the best in the village 7/23/2002

This is a great lunch spot , dinner or just desserts. They are very kid oriented and have come a long way since opening day. The quality of food is what you expect from a restaurant with the Ruggles name. Pros: best desserts, great specials, low -fat desserts Cons: paking more

Great 6/21/2002

There's little doubt this is a great place for lunch. The burgers and salads are tastie and the portions are generous. The pulled pork sandwich will melt in your mouth. If you're feeling really adventerous get one of the desserts. They incredible but extremely rich. Pros: great food, fast service Cons: parking issues more

overpriced! 6/20/2002

I've tried Ruggles Cafe Bakery twice, unfortunately both visits proved disappointing. Both visits consisted of snobby service and overpriced menu items. On my last visit, I ordered a fat-free muffin. The charge was $6.00! I questioned the price, considering that this was basically a large muffin, and was told that all desserts (irregardless of type) are $6.00. Imagine my suprise when the guy in line behind me was handed two large cookies ""free of charge"", by the same waiter who charged me $6.00 for a muffin. Needless to say, I won't be returning. more

get the hot chocolate! 6/17/2002

It may be pricey, but the hot chocolate is amazing. It comes with a chocolate dipped spoon and a cookie. Everything I've had there was good. more
