I live in the bay area but I have an Arizona issued Identification card. I haven't been to Santa Fe in years and thought I'd go out with some friends for a drink. When I went to the Cowgirl, I was let in at the door, appropriately carded, and paid the cover. Inside I ordered a drink and was carded again, no problem, as I am of legal age, but shockingly enough I WAS THEN TURNED DOWN and accused of having a fake ID? I then suggested that they look it up, that it was a legit ID or to even scan it. The bartender, who then was apparently already intoxicated and belligerent, stated she couldn't, telling me to not have attitude, sure, whatever, I was just trying to get her to cooperate. I then left the bar and was confronted by another intoxicated waiter on the ersatz dancefloor where I was told to leave, unless I wanted to "hang out" but could not "sip off anybody's drink." Just then I turned to find some burly bouncer idiot in front of me. He started calling me "BABY GIRL" and then had enough nerve to falsely accuse me of having a fake handstamp, as if I took the time to get someone to transfer theirs to my hand. I don't think I would have even gone out of my way to do so to gain entrance to the Cowgirl even if I was underage, I mean, come on. The bouncer then made a joke that if I "even graduated high school" I must have had a time machine. What a bunch of jerks. I never once raised my voice yet after I left, I was told that the manager, bouncer, and doorman called my friend and I "crazy bitches" outside on the patio. Way to be completely disrepectful, guys. This place is only for compliant tourists, I guess. Ask around Santa Fe, the locals will tell you they aren't THAT into the Cowgirl. There is a lot of unnecessary attitude here. I've never in my life been accused of having a fake ID. I've never been called "baby girl" repeatedly by a bouncer. I've never had a bartender slur so meanly in my face. Also, I saw a cook picking his teeth with his hands. more

Great Food and Customer Service ! 3/28/2008

We went to the Cowgirl last night, and it was wonderful! We ordered the BBQ Sampler Plate and also had the Sweet Potato Fries . The dip for the Fries was fabulous, made with finely chopped walnuts, honey, and mayo. For dessert, we got talked into the ice cream that looks like a potato. Its covered in coco and totally awesome! We really enjoyed everything ! The Staff was courteous, friendly, and very prompt and attentive. We loved the atmosphere, the food, the hats, and everything about it. We were told that the building is on a Historic Register, being over 100 years old. It was an apartment house at one time. In the outer area near the kitchen, a section of the floor is made of old cobblestone style bricks, that are very very old. It is a charming place to eat, and I can see why it draws so many people. We hear it is a favorite with the wealthy celebrity locals too. If we had one complaint, it would be the parking, thats all. We are definitely going to go back there in the future. We live in Albuquerque and its worth the drive ! We would definitely highly recommend it if you are going to Santa Fe to visit ! Pros: Great Food, great service, charming atmosphere Cons: limited parking, limited restrooms more

Very Interesting Crowd! 5/30/2006

We visited over the weekend for dinner. We were seated quickly even though we were on a wait list. The bar draws a different crowd and encourages people watching. The food was good, i recommend the BBQ Sampler Platter for a taste of it all! Pros: diverse crowd, reasonably priced, Big portions Cons: street parking more

The Cowgirl is Good Times 8/27/2003

On the average, Cowgirl is a fun place in Santa Fe. At night, at least, many cute servers, and the atmosphere is laid back and very Santa Fe, if you get my drift. I've never had a bad time there. more

  • The Santa Fe Cowgirl Hall of Fame Restaurant opened in June of 1993 in a a hundred-year-old building in the historic Guadalupe district. Fast forward a couple of decades later and the Cowgirl BBQ occupies almost the entire block where it started, now with a billiard parlor, a commercial catering kitchen, and several private party rooms. The patio is one of the most inviting summertime venues for locals and tourists alike. The Cowgirl has become a local institution!
