Huge FAN of DR. O'SULLIVAN at Countryside 5/17/2012

I rescue dogs and have a few favorite vets who basically partner with rescues to bring these neglected, hurting dogs back to a happy, healthy condition and ready for a forever home. Time after time, dog after dog, I have thoroughly trusted and relied upon Dr. O'Sullivan to examine my rescues, diagnose any medical needs, perform any kind of necessary surgery expertly, and do it all with complete generosity of his time and care. Countryside gives rescue groups a discount and Dr. O'Sullivan always takes extra steps to make sure all care and medications are given while working to stay within our means. He has stayed late on weekends and weeknights to help dogs in dire need brought to the hospital outside of normal hours. Countryside has been a God-send to me in helping countless dogs get the best vetting. I have referred adopters and friends to Countryside and everyone agrees that Dr. O is WONDERFUL and we're so happy to have him around for our little loved ones. Thanks Dr. O'Sullivan!! Thanks for saving my dog's life! 5/11/2012

I recently came home and found my 12 year old lab and best friend passed out on the floor. She has always been healthy so I was scared to death. I grabbed her and rushed her to Countryside Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Hunter stopped everything he was doing and helped her in the crisis. It turned out that she had some kind of throat paralysis and could barely breathe. He and the staff stayed with her way past the closing time to help her. I can't say enough how compassionate and caring everyone was. My lab is back home strong and healthy now thanks to a great clinic. Pros: null Cons: null more

Profiting from cremation 3/27/2012

The headline says it all. After allowing a healthy young animal to needlessly suffer and pass on during a routine procedure, these people charged double the cost of cremation. I've checked around and other vets only add a minor (like $10-15) administrative fee over the cost that comes from crematorium, so as not to take advantage of people in a time of grief. These people at Countryside doubled the cost from the crematorium, clearly taking one last opportunity to profit from their clients suffering. When a complaint was made their attitude was either pay the fee or not get the ashes in return. Totally unsympathetic! They are incompetent and unethical. PLEASE take your animal elsewhere. I wish human doctors were as thorough as Dr. Hunter ! 10/24/2011

I truely can't thank Dr. Hunter and Countryside enough for working so hard to help my retired hunting dog through a recent hard time. I am a long time customer of Countryside and have found all of the vets and staff to always be very friendly and professional. When my best friend and companion became very ill this past summer, I felt as if Dr. Hunter was treating his own dog. He called me frequently to update me on test results and check on progress, he spent countless hours calling specialists to help, and he even called me on a Sunday to give results that had just been faxed over! Not Honest And Upfront About Costs 9/22/2011

This vet was not upfront and honest about costs for services. When I called to make an appointment for spaying I was asked if I wanted to have my cat spayed with the laser procedure. I asked what the cost was and they said $59. I told them I had a certificate from a local adoption agency for $45 and if that covered the costs or if the laser procedure was additional. They said that the costs were a part of the certificate, and I only had to pay the difference. When I dropped off the cats, the paperwork also did not indicate that the laser procedure was in addition. I agreed to the costs of the laser procedure, with the understanding that I only had to pay the difference of $14 each, and presented them with the $45 certificate. more

Dr. O'Sullivan is amazing! 8/20/2011

Dr. O'Sullivan was the nicest and most informative veterinarian I've ever seen. He took genuine interest in my dogs condition and spent almost an hour going over all the different options, what it could be, etc. I am an animal sciences major and spend a great deal of time researching everything about my dog and Dr. O'Sullivan seemed to really appreciate that. He was truthful to me about what medicines are money making scams and which aren't. He even wrote down everything for me to go home and research. I will definitely continue to go to Dr. O'Sullivan. However, I've heard Dr. Hunter is a bit of a profit seeker. Additionally, the girls at the front were a bit rude to me and fought me on vaccinations that I felt were unnecessary (and Dr O'Sullivan agreed). After my initial conflict with the front desk I swore to never come back, but Dr O'Sullivan impressed me so much I plan to be a regular customer. more

The Best! 2/8/2011

I have been a customer/client of Dr. Hunter and Countryside Vet from day one. When the Vet answers the phone and makes an appointment with you... he had me at hello. Over the years I have brought many cats and dogs to Countryside, I know they think I'm crazy because it seems like every year or so I come back with different animals (very long stories) and Dr. Hunter just takes it in stride. Dr. Jim Hunter, Dr. Andrew O'Sullivan (he has now added the cutest little baby boy to his family) and Dr. Molly Morgan currently take care of my sheltie (Cody, 8 yrs old) and my cocker spaniel puppy (Bella, 8 months). I wouldn't even consider taking my animals to anyone else. Besides the doctors, there is Jane and the other girls that take care of the office...they are wonderful. Everyone at Countryside is truly careing, professional and treat you with respect. They spend time with you, they explain everything to you so you understand what is going on, a wonderful bed side manner you could say. I can not recommend Countryside Vet enough, you would not be sorry. They are truly a rare find. more

I am so glad I found you! 10/27/2010

I am one of those crazy cat owners! I have adopted 8 cats from the henrico pound over the past 3 years and until recently, I have been taking them for lukemia testing, shots, nutering, and declawing to a vet that is close to my house. Now that I have discovered Countryside Vets, I wont go anywhere else. The last 2 cats I adopted had the LASER declaw and neuter and I never saw any evidence that they had surgery at all! Previously, my cats always hid and cried after surgery....never again! I couldnt have my 8 kitties without nutering and declawing them and they would have been put to sleep at the pound without me. Thanks for painless surgery Countryside! more

I just switched to Countryside Vet. I have three dogs one being a new puppy:) I couldn't believe how much time Dr. Hunter spent with each dog and answering my million questions. The staff handled switching me over and getting all of my records from my old vet. Really great clinic:) Thank you!!! more

I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! 9/13/2010

My dog has developed a very complicated case of autoimmune disease and Dr. Hunter has spent countless hours on the phone with specialists all over the country trying to help her out. He also met us late one night after closing when she was having a bad night and took his time to examine her and explain in detail to us all of his findings and options. I only wish I had this kind of devotion from my own doctor! more

Dr. O'Sullivan and Dr. Hunter 9/10/2010

These two Doctor's are worth the visit and care of your pets. Like any other Veterinarian office they aren't cheap, but that's what you decide when getting a pet. They've been kind and helpful throughout the care of my pet, although I was not happy at tge begining with Dr. Morgan, but after changing doctors, I am happy with this clinic. Countryside has helped me with resuce dogs for years and now I bring my owns pups there....one lab mix, one terrier mix and a sweetheart pitbull! They have always been so helpful and always friendly. The doctors are all amazing and patient with my special bunch! more

BEST VET IN RICHMOND 8/19/2010

So we have been bringing our 2 cats and beagle to Countryside for years now. Great Vets....always there for you and always helpful. Recently our beagle had a serious illness and we thought we'd loose her but both Dr. O'Sullivan and Dr. Hunter helped her get back to her old barking self. We are forever grateful. more

Great Veterinary Clinic 4/19/2010

I have been bringing my pets to CVC since 1993. I have never had any problems with any of the staff. They always call back and follow up on any issues I may have with my pets. I chose Countryside because of the availibility of Dr.s on call hours. I have had the Dr. come in to see my pets for emergency calls and follow up the next day. They have same day visits and short notice emergency appts available. I wouldn't go anywhere else. They saved my dogs life in an emergency health situation. She will be 15 yrs old this year!!!!!!!!! I bring my cats to countryside and have always had a great experience. The doctors are very patient with my questions and always call me back. I have had a couple of pretty sick visits but happy to say my cats are doing great. Pros: Caring, Great Staff more

Great Hospital!!! 5/10/2008

I am surprised by these reviews. Countryside has been a great place for my dogs and cat I got one of my dogs from Henrico humane society and they took great care of him. The doctor called me back when I had a question and he explained everything very well. These other reviews are WAY OFF. Pros: Dr. O'Sullivan, friendly staff more

Horrible Treatment toward pet and owner 7/11/2007

My friend rescued her new puppy from the henrico humane and the protocol is to take him to this vet to be neutered. When she arrived the staff was very impersonal, just took the dog and said nothing. Not sure what happenend after she left....but upon picking him up they gave no post op instructions, or any indication of how the surgery went, no speaking to the actual vet, and basically threw him at her. when he stepped outside he urinated, as if they never took him out to use the restroom, and once home he drank water and ate as if he had not been fed. I would not recommend this facility to any one who cares for their loved pet. Pros: NONE more
