Cottage Bakery & Cafe

Would not recommend cakes baked by this Cottage. (This is definitely not the same Cottage which was on Linn Street some years ago) Carrot cake was a big disappointment, very dry and hard to slice. Whoever baked it missed a key ingredient. They are not a business who stands by their word either. Go to the Bread Garden, excellent, or Yummy's for a delicious moist cake. more

Stale items, bland, ho-hum... And pricey! For a better bakery, try the Bread Garden next to Starbucks on Dubuque Street, and for better coffee, try the Java House. more

OK....maybe not JUST like what Grandma used to bake but pretty darn close and anyway, who has the time anymore to make such delectible breads and such? Certainly not this busy Mom of 2! Located at 14 South Linn street, just a short walk from campus and the downtown area, THE COTTGE BAKERY is a nice chance of pace for those tired of the "fast food" fare. Now I have been a customer of THE COTTAGE BAKERY for over 15 years....I used to work downtown and found their sandwiches and "goodies" not to be beat! I haven't been there is a few months but I have no doubt their fare is just as good if not better than my last visit there! Now they are a bit more expensive than say your fast food burger but you will get quality bread here and healthier fare....at least fare that doesn't clog your arteries at the mere thought of it!!! And the portions are decent too....not enough to scare you but enough to fill you up and that's what matters after all! Next time you are visiting someone in the Iowa City area or are just looking for something healthy with a definite Iowa City bent....give this shop a try....I promise you, you will leave satified with the quality, quantity and type of fare served! more

I like this bakery, but there are not too many bakeries that I would pass up. They bake the items here daily so everything always smells so good. Cottage Bakery also serves bottled water, coffee and pop. The parking is a bit difficult to come by in this area, but it is worth stopping by this location if you get the chance. more

This is a neat little cottage that is tucked near the University Campus. It is an upscale bakery. They make all of the baked good daily. My favorite is the baklava. If you have not tried it before, be sure to try their sweet flaky pastry! There is limited parking. more

Cute little "cottage" (literally) that is a wonderful upscale bakery. They make all their pastries fresh each day. They have indoor seating and serve simple beverages such as water, soda, and coffee. They do provide custom orders and delivery for meetings, parties, or other events. Definitely worth trying! Everything is baked fresh each day. more
