Converse Animal Hospital

After reading all of the reviews and being recommended to the hospital we went and gave it a try. We are currently with Banfield (which really is nothing) and they did nothing to help my dog who is sick. The desk staff at Converse Animal Hospital was attentive but not overly so. We did wait for 15-20 min. to be seen. The vet tech/nurse and veterinarian were nice. Although the vet recommended a food that I am not comfortable feeding to my dog (as it is low quality and has doubtful ingredients). We came in with a coupon, but we were unable to use it since it was only valid if our dog was 'healthy'. We were also told they had a military discount, but when it came time to apply it, military discount only applied to vaccinations, which we had not done that day. We were also slipped some other medication that we had not talked to the vet about. We were told that the instructions for all of his medications would be on the invoice, but upon returning home, it was not. I will have to call tomorrow and ask. The total of the visit was 158 for the office visit, parasite screening, medication and prescribed food. Overall, we had an O.K. experience, but I'm not going to recommend it to anyone. more

Very informed staff. Nice visit, in and out. Nice reception on arrival, everything was peaceful, clean, and the staff was professional. The doctor explained everything clearly and very well understood our issues and concerns. The office was clean, nice scents, lovely fishtank as well. Clean seats and floors, no clutter on the counter. Both vets took very good care of my pets. Keep up your pro status in our community, thanks. Jean always visits our dog when we come in. We feel well cared for. Dee and Hannah are always friendly and helpful and Dr Mary Ann is simply great. She remembers your dogs needs. more

You give quality care to your patients and you do it at a reasonable cost. You are also always on time with your appointments. I only waited very few minutes in the lobby and that because I was a bit early. more

Everyone is cordial, seems truly interested in the welfare of the clients and pets. I loved everyone that I have dealt with in all my visits. I will keep coming back. more

I have 3 dogs, three cats, and a chinchilla (a mistake I won't make again), and Dr. Johansen and her staff have taken care of all of them since the hospital opened. I just had to write and say how much I appreciate them and the excellent care they give my animals. I recently had a dog with cancer, and now I have a 17-year-old dog in the early stages of kidney failure, and Dr. Johansen was very thorough in explaining my treatments options for both. She never pressures me but just makes sure I'm well informed about my options before I have to make difficult decisions. It's clear what a kind heart she has and how committed she is to the welfare of her patients and their ""people"". That's true of her whole staff -- I know my animals are in the best hands with them. I feel so lucky to have someone so caring and competent taking care of these special family members! more

I refuse to return despite this being the closest facility to my house and the extended hours on the opening and closing ends. For me the visits have been hit and miss, some average and some just downright fustrating, but the latest problem was more than I can bear. I won't be back and I can't recommend. Hundreds of my dollars a year are now going elsewhere. more

My pet was sick and I went to Ellison Animal Hospital for my puppy. What was great is that as a walk in they we're able to schedule me right away. Unfortunately after arriving at my designated time I still had to wait 30 mins to be seen. The staff seemed very cheerful, but there was many periods where we were left waiting 30 mins at a time. When it came time to pay I waited an hr just to have them swipe my card along with 3 other people waiting to pay. The visit in totality was over 3 and a half hours. Also the tech did not explain to us what each medication was for, just how much to give and when but by the time we had realized this we had stayed passed closing to pay for our bill that when we called they were closed. Our tec also explained to us that today was his first day, and at most hospitals a tech would be shadowing a veteran employee. My husband and I both work at a hospital and we understand how quickly a patient can get aggravated if they are left waiting uninformed. It's more

Winston (Boxer), Biggles (Mexican Hairless or Xolo), and Louie (Chocolate Lab mix) are patients of Drs. Johansen and her partner who are thorough and good diagnosticians. They and their staff have always been friendly, courteous and provided high quality care. They're very good dog people. Winston, has been with them the longest and is always greeted by name and they've always been willing to answer questions about the dogs' health and well being. I recommend them highly. Winston and I have traveled the country extensively and he sees a number of vets. They are two of the three veterinarians that I measure all others by. The other being Dr. Girgis of Huntington Beach Animal Hospital in California. My dachshund Charlie has been a patient since he was 7 weeks old. The docs always take superb care of him and the rest of the staff always greet him as if he was their most important patient. I have had to take him twice for illnesses and didn't have an appointment. I was seen right away and given the medication for him before we left. Charlie likes them so much that when we go to get a bath at the groomer in the same building, he tries to go to the office first. Charlie is now 18 months old and has yet to cry, snap, or try to bite anyone of the staff. They are gentle with him and always allow me to stay with him when they are treating him. I also have a cat named Boo that they have treated. She also doesn't fight or try to run away. That is a mircle of the first order! When we have been in for surgery or an illness, someone always follows up in the next two days to see how my pet is doing. Human Doctors should be as attentive. I am very happy with this vet service. The staff is very friendly, and the doctor is experienced and seems to know her stuff as the previous reviewer stated, however, the doctor herself has been quite rude and snotty to me on more than one occasion. I asked her if, in her OPINION she thought my cat's leg might be fractured and her response was ""I don't know! I don't have X-ray vision!"" She also would not let me leave my cat there for ten minutes while she examined him. I had to stay there because she said she didn't want me leaving the cat & never returning. This was my 3rd or 4th visit to her office, I was not a new client that shouldn't be trusted. She seems to have a bit of a catty attitude towards some customers, especially female. Her rudeness was completely unprovoked, as I've always been polite to her and her staff. Overall the service is pretty good, but I could live without the ""I'm a doctor and you're an idot"" attitude. If she's rude to me next time I take one of my pets in, I highly doubt I'll ever use their services again if I can avoid it.
