Best

Just moved to Philadelphia from Boston. This is a great place to meet alot of people from all over the city.

Worst

The food here is pretty good. If it weren't for the ""we're so hip"" crowd and staff, I would go back here again. Pros: Good Food Cons: crowd, vibe, neighborhood

Bland, overpriced, cold staff 7/9/2010

Staff was rude so it set off the entire night. Pros: Interesting menu Cons: Overpriced, overshadowed by food greats of the city more

The Legend Does Not Live Up To Itself... 3/1/2009

Wow. Words escape me. I have been a Continental fan and patron since it's inception. I pretty much worship their lunch/dinner menu. That being said, i had strayed away from the ""original"" Continental since the opening of Cont. Midtown. This weekend, we were really feeling a brunch escape and decided, though out of the way, to take it back to home base and check out the Continental in Old City for brunch. Shame on us for being so excited... maybe our expectations got the best of us, but then again, we LOVE the Continental for it's staples so why should we expect anything less? Pros: Drinks, ambiance, well known, staple menu Cons: Brunch more

Best Food and Drinks Around--Great Value 5/27/2008

I've been going to Continental in Old City and in Midtown for years. It always meets expectations and the service is always great. Almost anything you order there is solid--the pad thai, the bbq quesodillas, the sushi rolls, cheesesteak egg rolls--all good stuff. The drinks are on point too! An incredibly good value for the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. Pros: Great service, food and drinks! more

very good food! 4/1/2008

Worst Brunch in awhile 2/9/2008

I've heard great things about the brunch here but was really let down. The server seemed like she had other things to do. The food was cold when it showed up and the portions were small. Overall it was terrible and we won't go back. more

Good food, brunch 1/16/2008

In my opinion, this Continental is best for its food whereas drinks and dessert should be gotten at the other location (I prefer the drink options at the midtown location, and desserts in shot glasses here were nothing special). If eating here for dinner, try the Rad Na salad (BIG portion, and the best dish overall), pita and hummus, thai chicken skewers, lobster mashed potatoes, crab pad thai and summer rolls (all were quite delicious!). I haven't been here for brunch in a while but when I did go, I also remember it being quite delicious. Pros: small plates, brunch Cons: long wait on weekends more

Best Brunch and Service in Philly 8/30/2007

I threw my sister's bridal shower in the back room. It was a complete success! I worked with Kerri in the Events department, and she handled it beautifully. I had 25 guests and the food, service, and ambience were perfect. Thank you Continental Restaurant! Pros: Food, Service, Room in the back was GREAT Cons: Can't think of any! more

Great Food, But Small Portions Are A Killer 7/29/2007

i tried this place on the random whim of my girlfriend. i was actually pretty excited to go there, i walk past it all the time. the real problem with this place is the inconsistency of portion sizes. i tried the thai chicken skewers which had a great flavor. my girlfriend had some sushi dish and a dish with dumplings, we were both left hungry. continuing to dessert, i had the cheesecake, which they gave me a total of 1 strawberry, and she had the coconut creme brulee. creme brulee was amazing. because we were still hungry, we decided to split some of the chinese mustard shoestring fries. which the pile was huge. didnt finish it. Pros: tasty food. great pleasant service. Cons: loud. portions are miniscule. more

Good Food and Drinks 7/11/2007

The food was great and the service friendly. We were seated pretty quickly, and thats only because we were willing to sit inside. The outdoor seats were jammed. The shoestring fries were enormous and very good, maybe ask for them without the sauce since it was a little spicy. Since its also a bar, they had an extensive drink menu, all were really great. Pros: Everything was great about this place Cons: Can't really think of any. more

Theme-Decor, but charming staff and great food! 4/14/2007

Originally, I wanted to stop by another place for a late lunch (3pm), but they didn't serve food at that time. We were directed to Continental and I was suspicious at first of the themed decor (martini's and airplanes?) but the place was packed and appears to always be packed. Luckily it is a cavernous restaurant with lots of different rooms, each with a slightly different feel to them. One is smaller and more intimate - one large group could take it up, the front room is louder and great to see and be seen, where the back room seems better for smaller groups that want to hear each other. Our waiter was a cute aspiring actor - he charmed everyone at the table w/o being obtrusive. There was a table of 6 hip ladies celebrating a 40th bday party - they couldn't get enough of our hansome waiter. The food was great. The burgers were super, but, surprisingly, so was the seared tuna. I wouldnt usually get seared tuna at a place that bills itself as a hip diner, but it was a good call. All in all - great time. more

gargantuan shoestring fries 4/14/2007

huge plate of fries -- giant portions but all good standard fare, nice diner-esque atmosphere...casual delicious more

Nice food, service and atmosphere 3/25/2007

First impression of the place, friendly staff, cool decor, relaxing atmosphere, fairly innovative food but can be slightly crowded if it's full. We followed the recommendations of the waitstaff and were really satisfied with the taste. It was a better experience than Buddakan or Morimotos. Will definitely be back. Pros: Good service, innovative and tasty food Cons: Can be slightly crowded more

nothing special 12/18/2006

Here is the truth about this restaurant: this food is rather bland and definitely overpriced. People go here because of its look, which apparently is cool or hip, but it's not authentically so. This is yet another example of a restaurant trying to be fine dining but failing miserably. There is a difference between a diamond and a fake diamond, and this place is an example of a fake. Unfortunately most people are content to surround themselves with plastic and pretend it's a precious gem. What is our society coming to? Please do not eat here. Cons: overpriced, bad food more

little pricey, but consistently delicious 12/10/2006

I come here often... it's always consistent. Drinks are always strong, food is always delicious. I have never had anything but great service, although I see others who reviewed have. Yes, there are people who think they are super cool, but I find it entertaining to watch people like that so it doesn't bother me. I like this location much better than the Continental Midtown because it is much less touristy. Pros: can't really go wrong with anything on the menu Cons: they close during the middle of the day from 3-5 or so more

Love the Continental 11/18/2006

Year after year, the Contintental maintains its greatness. Brunch is awesome here, and the pumpkin waffles are out of this world. My friend and I had her two small kids with us, and the staff was friendly and accomodating (and the kids loved the shoestring fries - they're heaped on the plate like a little mountain). If you go in the evening, try the Lobster mashed potatoes; you won't be sorry. Finally, late night, the martini menu is extensive, and ALL of them are delicious. Pros: The food and drinks are just plain great. Cons: Not cheap, but like anything else, you get what you pay for. more

Best In City 8/11/2006

If youve never been to The Continental before you have to go. If youve been there in the past you have to go again. THe continental seems to always keep up with the times the outdoor seating is the best in Philly. The place is where to be seen in the city where to get food and great drinks. Everyone there is good looking and it is very relaxed and fun. My favorite spot. Pros: Service atmosphere bar scene Cons: noisy on weekends more

Best Philly Hot Spot 8/8/2006

The Continental Old City is truly what Philadelphia is all about. On a given night you can hang out with your friends over thier amazing cocktail list see celebrities and the prettiest women in the city and get a reasonably priced fine dining style meal. Ive been to the Continental several times and it has never disappointed the atmosphere food and service have no rival. If you go you have to try thier crab pad thai or their lobster mash potatoes. They have an amazing classic cocktail list and its reasonably priced. I would recommend this to anyone its an experience. Pros: The cocktails the women the food Cons: n/a more

Good Food, Poor Atmosphere 5/29/2006

Visited The Continental on a Saturday evening . Upon arriving, it was very busy, very noisey. The entire meal conversation was done by screaming as the noise was nerve-wracking. The music was loud, so patrons had to speak even louder. The table was very small and there was about 6-10 inches of space between us and the table on either side of us. We were presented with with the Crispy Calamari Salad, which was very good, then the Rice dish that was ordered came. When the Fried Squid was brought to the table, it was handed to me on a plate that was too, too hot. The kitchen server left me holding the plate trying to find space on the table. Finally, after about 1 minute, our server arrived and made room on the table. The price was very reasonable. The atmosphere of the restaurant left much to be desired. Pros: good food, reasonably priced Cons: too loud, table too close, food rushed more
