Best

I had to go to the Emergency Room for a broken foot. The waiting was excellent and I didn't have to wait long. The Dr. in the Er was very kind and helpful. Everyone I came across ...

Worst

The Community Hospital (a.k.a. Munster Community) is where I went when I had a Kidney Stone attack (didn't know what it was at the time). My wife drove me to their emergency room...

The real pain from the visit comes later. 11/15/2011

I went to the emergency room for a kidney stone attack. I arrived at 2AM or so. Place was pretty empty. I received pain meds, X rays, passed the stone in a few hours. People, services, facilities were great. In all I think I was there for three hours or so... I had nurse or attendant care for 40 minutes or so during that time, 5 minutes with a physician. The problem: The billing $$ for this place was absolutely outrageous. Few hundred for X rays, $464 for services.. those seem high, but sorta reasonable. "Facilities" charge for a three hour visit = $3971.32 Are you kidding me? more

seeking a job 9/16/2011

Good: the website for applying. Bad: never receiving an interview or a letter, just a comment on the website under my account, stating they chose another candidate, mind you i have 20 years in the clerical field in a healthcare setting. about two weeks later, they have the same job posted and each time i apply i receive the same response.. Improvements: i would appreciate an opportunity to be interviewed or notified by letter stating the truth why i was not chosen.. Other: there is something terribly wrong with your job availability, every 10 days you post the same position, at the same time you say the position has been filled.. more

They would not let my breastfeeding baby stay with me 3/25/2010

I went in after I had a grand mal seizure. They wanted me to stay overnight, so I asked if my baby could stay with me because I am breastfeeding and can't get him to take a bottle. They just said they didn't know, and started taking me to a room; me being pushed on a bed, my partner behind me carrying the baby. When we began to go in the door, they started yelling "get that baby out of here!" and a nurse came and said "You're in the HOSPITAL, you can't have a baby in here." I asked what they expect me to do. She said they would give me a pump, I said that wouldn't work because he won't take a bottle. She said "Well you could have another seizure, hit your head and DIE." I said "Well if my baby doesn't eat, he'll die." and left. So I did not get treatment for my seizure (I had to make an appointment with a neurologist who doesn't have openings for a month). more

Community Hospital 4/8/2006

The Community Hospital (a.k.a. Munster Community) is where I went when I had a Kidney Stone attack (didn't know what it was at the time). My wife drove me to their emergency room. I was in incrutiating pain. When we got there, they put me in a wheel chair and took me to the admitting desk to ask me a bunch of questions. They got irritated with me because I was unable to answer all their questions due to my pain. My wife answered most of the questions. I became queasy and told them I was going to throw up. They handed me a tiny little container. I threw up all over the floor because the container wasn't big enough. Well, that got their attention and they finally took me to a room. Once I got back there, everything went smoothly. I only rate them a 2 star because of their lack of compassion at the admitting desk. The doctors were great. more

Good and Bad 11/8/2005

I have two opinions on Community Hospital! One is good and one is bad! If you are there for out patient surgery...in other words, you are NOT in the emergency room...this hospital is good. I've had several out patient surgeries at Community Hospital and have always been pleased. HOWEVER...if you need to go to their Emergency Room...if you aren't bleeding profusely or if you aren't breathing...you WILL WAIT FOR HOURS! We've been to this ER three times...twice we waited 3 hours to see a doctor (and there were not many people there...this was the middle of the night). The third time was my husband having a kidney stone attack (we thought it was his appendix). He was in screaming pain and they wanted him to fill out forms...they would not let me do it for him. It took him throwing up on the admitting desk to get the ball rolling...they immediately took him back to see a doctor! We have never been impressed with the ER. more

Very Helpful 8/20/2005

My nephew was at my house when a basketball hoop fell on his head and busted it open. I rushed him to Community hospital. I was frantic and they handled the situation and my nephew in a calm and proffesional manner. He needed stitches and was very nervous. The nurses did a great job in keeping him calm. We were in and out quickly. more

Great Emergency Room 8/20/2005

I had to go to the Emergency Room for a broken foot. The waiting was excellent and I didn't have to wait long. The Dr. in the Er was very kind and helpful. Everyone I came across that day was super friendly and respected me and my privacy. This is a great Hospital. I would recommend this hospital to others. more
