Country Dancing and Tons of Fun!!! 11/17/2010

After hearing the ads for The Colorado Cafe on the radio (thank you Thunder Country!) I had to get up to Watchung and check it out for myself. This place was the best! I brought a few girlfriends and we had the best night ever! We arrived around 6 PM (not knowing how traffic was going to be) and sat in the restaurant since the doors to the dance hall didn't open until 7... which was awesome, because we were informed that ordering a dinner entree would get us a free pass into the dance hall! The food was delicious, the waitress was so nice ( I think her name was Tiffany), and I highly recommend ordering the ribeye steak! The food was great and the portions were HUGE! Once inside the enormous dance room we found a table with waitress service which was perfect! No waiting in line at the bar, a table to leave our jackets while we danced, and Thunder Country was doing a live broadcast from 9 until midnight with a chance to win tickets to big country concerts! And since there were FREE line dance lessons we weren't just stuck on the sidelines!!! Later that night we went to see the live rock band in the restaurant area and rode the mechanical bull!!! The guy running the bull was so helpful and made sure we all had a great time! The drinks were reasonably priced, the free pass with the entree, country music and dancing, and a staff of such polite and fun people made our night perfect and I can't wait to go back!!!! more

Great Place - Decent Food - Clean Restrooms - Tons of Fun 11/16/2010

My friends asked me to go to the Colorado Cafe in Watchung NJ www.coloradocafe. WOW what a great experience. We went on a Saturday nite, ate in the restaurant (Decent Food) then went into the Dance Hall where there is a cover charge. Boy was I surprized, a DJ was playing Country Music and the 3,000 square foot dance floor was packed. Talk about good looking woman this is the real deal. We hung out at the Tequila Bar, did a few shots of the good stuff (they have over 30 brands of Tequila) then went into the "Buck-Off" Bar, yes I said "Buck-Off". They have a Mechanical Bull named you guessed it "Buck-Off". We rode the bull 5.00 per ride and stayed to listen to a Rock Cover Band called The Jonzes, man are they great. We left at 1:45 am and had a great time. I will tell you to bring your real ID they check everything. The bartenders are polite and so is the wait staff. Imagine clean rest rooms and the place is 14,000 square feet with 3 bars. All I can say is I've been back every Saturday for the past 8 weeks, had a great meal and tons of fun. NO BS THIS PLACE IS THE REAL DEAL. They do Country Music, Rock Cover Bands, Mechanical Bull Riding, have 3 bars a restaurant and 3 pool tables. Prices are OK for food & drink go online and check out the menu www.coloradocafe more

Lousy food 3/9/2008

I was Ok with the mediocre food and the wait staff was very pleasant, very helpful. The food seems to have deteriorated over the past couple of years. I did not care for the "bouncer mentality" or the rule that we were not "allowed" to wear jackets/sweaters into the dance hall. Apparently, the brisk sale of alcohol requires bouncers to corral the resulting behaviour. It is geared to the 20 something rock crowd, not old timey country dancers like myself. Their marketing plan is brilliant. I will never return. Pros: Ambiance Cons: Bouncer staff more

Mechanical-bull and eight dollar beers! 2/3/2007

The mechanical-bull, live music, intermittent line dancing and pool table times four are all pluses. The also have a Tequila bar with a huge variety, and two other large club like bars. The whole place has a cowboy theme and don't be surprised to see a few cowgirls posing in their best pair of jeans. Be sure to check the clothing rules because they do occasionally turn people away (no white shirts, bandanas or other clothing perceived as "hood" related in the 90's). Make sure you also have cash on hand, there's usually a cover charge. If you're looking for live music and a big dance floor, there are not many other places close by that compare. Be sure to check what band is playing, they don't always stick to the country thing, a lot of time you can find a decent local rock band. Cheers. Pros: Ambience, Parking Cons: Not very cozy or comfortable more
