If you think you will defeat the Federal Government you might as well just start paying, but if your attitude is right, and you want to work out a compromise to just paying in full there is a solution to your tax debt. I contacted CTC in November 2010, after not hearing from the IRS for over five years. My hope was that my tax debt, dating to 2000, and extending through 2005 would simply expire, and the oldest year almost did, but then after a long draught i finally got the ultimatum. As i do with just about everything i went to the internet to start reading everything i could about who to call and what to do. I'm getting a little ahead of the story as i had twice before tried this process with another firm from the great star of Washington, and had let the process fizzle in both cases, due to my frustration with the company and the service i received. I can't begin to describe the difference here, from my first conversations with Rick Peart to finally being assigned to Beverly who worked my offer, and finally get me a successful and agreeable negotiation. I was recently called into Human Resources and informed that the IRS had put a levy on my wages as I owed back taxes for the past few years (despite paying all year, I still owed at the end of the year). Everything they submitted was accepted by the I.R.S. and state. and they immediatly stopped all collections and garnishment procedures.when I called C.T.C I had'nt filed in 10 years. I had discussed my mom´s tax case with several tax resolution firms. It was basically the same pitch and they made lots of promises but really provided no proof of their claims. I liked the low pressure of approach of Colonail and the fact they explained everything. Within 3 months of working with them my mom received a refund of the amount that was taken with a levy and all enforced collection activity stopped. Then we proceeded to have her account placed into "Currently not Collectable Status" or what is called CNC. My research showed that this is one of the most difficult things to accomplish with the IRS. I had gotten into a mess where I owed a large amount of taxes, and I tried to negotiate my way out of things with the IRS on my own. That was intimidating, to say the least. Out of desperation, contacted one of those companies that always advertise on the tv or radio, and I didn't have a good feeling. I just felt like they were telling me they were gtoing to be able to do something that they weren't really able going to be able to do. Still looking around, I cam across an ad for Colonial. I called and spoke with them, and they were very matter-of-fact regarding what my optins were, and what they could (as well as could not) do for me due to my circumstances. I found Colonial Tax Consultants by mistake and what a lucky day that was for me. I was in the middle of having problems with the IRS. I am disabled an did not think I had to pay taxes when disabled. Well, it was not the case in February of 2010 the IRS appeared at my home and I let the man in and he informed me that I had not filed taxes in four years. He explained to me that I needed to file by a certain date or the IRS would do it for me. I immediately got in touch with and accountant and filed all the outstanding tax forms. Then the bills starting coming from the IRS. I made the mistake of hiring Tax Masters in August of 2010, who charged me $2700. and did absolutely nothing for me. In February of 2011 I started getting threatening letters from the IRS saying they were going to put levy's on my bank accounts, my government disability checks etc. True to their word they did. I called Tax Masters whom at this point had done nothing for me, they did not even know levy's were being put on my accounts. Basically, they said we can set up a payment plan with the IRS for you. I said, "I could of done that myself before I hired you." Basically, they were worthless. Then a miracle came my way in the name of Colonial Tax Consultants. I found their ad by accident and called and left a message, as it was a Saturday. I was so frightened as once the IRS starts putting Levy's on your account you are basically without money. Then they put a levy on my Government Disability. On Monday, Rick Pert called me and told me how their service operates. At first I was skeptical after being burned by Tax Masters. First, their initial fee was cheaper only $2100. and he was kind enough to let me pay that off in two payments. He had me send PDF bank statements for the past three months(something tax masters never asked) that day Rick assigned an amazing person to my case. Beverly Medina who is licensed to deal with the IRS. Whereas Tax Masters was having me deal with people who weren't even licensed to handle my case. I gave Colonial Power of Attorney and within 48 hours the levy's where removed. Beverly, handled everything with the IRS. I never even had to deal with them. Which was good as when I tried calling all I would get is the person at the IRS'S voice mail. Beverly, continued to deal with the IRS and was able to get me on a payment plan of $150.00 per month. She is a genius and was always available to me. Colonial accomplished in one week what Tax Masters was never able to accomplish. At around this time ABC World New with Dianne Sawyer did an expose on Tax Masters. It was how they were a scam Company taking advantage of people who are desperate and vulnerable. During this time someone named Megan,from Tax Master, called the IRS agent assigned to my account and called her without ever speaking to me and told the IRS agent that I could pay $500. per month. I was outraged as I had never spoken to Megan and did not even know who she was. Beverly, said not to worry as our Power of Attorney is newer than theirs. The IRS agent did a check on Megan and Tax Masters and found out they never even filed the Power of Attorney. I was outraged and tried to get my $2700. back from Tax Masters, naturally they refused. I filed a complaint with the Attorney General of Texas as the more filings against them the better chance that they will be shut down. Colonial continued to negotiate a settlement with the IRS officer in charge of my account and was able to get me on a monthly payment plan of $150. per month. Our next step is to try and get the penalties removed and find out why I was being sent a W2 form when I am disabled and should be getting a different form all together. I would recommend Colonial Tax Consultants over any Company out there, especially the ones advertising on television. Everyone that works at Colonial is friendly, helpful and willing to work with you. As we move forward they let me pay on a payment plan. Every one you deal with is licensed and knows what they are doing. Where Tax Masters is a boiler room operation and you never deal with anyone whom is licensed to represent you to the IRS. As we move forward, I am confident that Beverly Medina, who is my tax consultant will get the penalties dropped and hopefully get my debt erased. She knows what she is doing. Right now she is going over my contract to see why I was being sent W2 forms when on disability. I recommend Colonial to anyone having problems with the IRS as they are a small Company out of Colorado and everyone works very hard to get the client the best outcome. They work with you with regard to payment and are all well versed in what they are doing. Please, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My advice to anyone going through this problem is to stay away from the advertising Companies and go with Colonial Tax Consultants. They are flexible and the nicest people, they saved my life as the IRS was about to put a levy on my job disability next. I found Colonial Tax Consultants in the nick of time. I am still not close to being settled with the IRS but think that being put in non collectable status was about the only option for me. I loved working with Beverly G. She was warm and helpful and explained everything about this overwhelming issue. I am hoping to come back and do another offer in compremise when my health issues are better. The IRS are adding over $20K to my balance every year. They send me recaps showing me how my bill is growing and growing. That is very overwhelming to say the least. more
