Great Service 4/7/2008

If you?re from the Eastside then you will understand and appreciate this review. With companies like Microsoft, AT&T, and Boeing, demanding a great deal of our time it is nice to find an oasis (Coho) in the middle of the chaos. Redmond is certainly known as a yuppie successful singles area. Being one of these successful singles, notice I left the yuppie part out, at 48 that would be a stretch. It is nice to find a ?Cheers? type place to hangout. They even have a character like the guy Norm on the show Cheers and he has his own special place at the bar. That?s what really makes this place shine, it?s the personal touch. You could be a regular or a first time guest and the staff will provide personal caring attention. Being that non yuppie successful I spoke about earlier I eat out several times a week. In many restaurants the staff seems more involved in each others than in the needs of the customer. That is not the case at the Coho Cafe they actually take the time to learn your name and will often greet you by name when you arrive. As for the food it fits perfectly for this area, there is a nice selection of seafood, pasta, poultry, and steak. If anything is lacking on the menu it is the steak selection, but with a name like Coho you are probably not coming for that reason. There is also a nice rotating fresh sheet with seasonal selections. Coho?s is also a great place to gather in small to medium size groups. This can often be arranged and accommodated with very little notice; I know I have done it a few times. All in all you would be hard pressed to find a better singles/family friendly restaurant on the Eastside. more

Great new dish ... smoked chicken penne 4/6/2008

Just had lunch again today at Coho and tried a new dish on their "special" sheet?a generous serving of smoked chicken in a creamy sauce with soft goat cheese, mushrooms, spinach and a touch of seasoning served over penne pasta. It?s sinfully rich so I?d recommended a nice white wine as accompaniment. The waiter explained that the chicken is smoked fresh on the premises by their chef, so that it?s never dry when served (as can often happen to smoked chicken). --- from an earlier experience I really enjoyed the pit-roasted salmon; perfectly cooked, not overdone the way most places prepare it. The sauce was incredible. My friend had one of the specials, a steak stir fry that was so gorgeous I had to try it myself. Service was great too, which for a busy cafe was a pleasant surprise. Its clearly a popular place to eat, so come early or late for lunch if you're in a hurry and don't want to wait for a seat.. Pros: food & service are wonderful Cons: popular, so there is sometimes a wait more

Excellent food & stellar service 4/1/2008

I'm a relatively picky and hard-to-please diner and regularly dine in high(er) end restaurants in the Seattle metro area. I loathe poor service. I've also tried every single restaurant in Redmond (fast food chains excluded), many of them many times. I've been a patron of Coho Cafe since the day it opened. I dine out a LOT. So, where does someone with this profile dine at regularly? Coho Cafe. Would I recommend it? Unequivocally and without reservation, yes. Here's why: The service I've received there has no equal. OK, places like the Herbfarm and select bistros where the tab for a dinner for two with wine is north of $400 may be better in terms of service but that's not a reasonable comparison. At Coho's price point, their service absolutely has no equal. Coho's staff is beyond merely professional. It's as though you are dining at the home of someone who's treating you as a VIP. We've brought guests and visiting family with us to Coho. My very choosy brother-in-law's reaction said it best: "I'd come back just for the service alone." As to the quality of their food I can only say, of the reviews that criticized their quality, that we must be dining at different establishments. I've had a consistently good impression of the quality of the food they serve for the last two years worth of dining there. Could their menu be broader? Certainly. Could they offer more complex preparations? Certainly. However , when you compare Coho to other establishments in their class, they compete more than favorably. Frankly, I'd rather pay to dine at Coho than feed for free at a place like the Cheesecake Factory. The small group of restaurants that Coho is part of are local gems and more than deserve the patronage of we local diners. Pros: Great service, excellent food, ample parking, terrific staff Cons: Can be a tad noisy when it's crowded more

Did not live up to expectations 3/30/2008

Based on reviews from several websites, I was expecting at least a four star experience from our first dinner at Coho. Also based on these reviews, I took my whole family. The service was four star. The wait staff was excellent, they were really on top of making sure we were taken care of. They forgot to bring our appetizer before our meal, which was annoying, but made up for it by comping one of our desserts (they even comped the most expensive one we ordered). The only real problem was that service was slower than it should have been for a rather slow evening. There was staff everywhere, but dessert took almost as long to bring out as our main meal did. Presentation was excellent. All our meals certainly looked good enough to eat. I loved the atmosphere and decor. It's a fun place and I could see that both adults and kids could have a good time there. The food was not worth the price. The menu looks fantastic, and I suspect if it was prepared better, or used higher quality ingredients, it would also taste fantastic. My stuffed chicken breast was dry, the salmon was overcooked, the fish and chips uninspiring (though edible) and the ahi tuna had poor flavor. I can say that all the vegetables were beyond excellent, and should I return, I'll stick to vegetarian dinners. Our happiest diner that evening was probably the one who ordered a salad. The meals were not very filling. I certainly wasn't looking for a claim jumper experience, but we were left unsatisfied. Dessert was fine, though not exciting (we tried the creme brulee trio, the lava cake, and the cobbler). The most interesting offering was the pumpkin spice creme brulee; it was fantastic. Too bad you can't order that by itself. The food wasn't terrible, about the quality I might expect from an Olive Garden. But not worth the price. It managed to impress my mother, who has trouble finding food of very good quality where she lives, but didn't impress the taste buds of a Seattlite. Pros: service, menu selection, ambience, decor Cons: poor quality food, high price more

If you love Fish and Chips do not go to COHO! 2/24/2008

I could go on a bit about this but I will be brief. The waitstaff was more interested in chatting among themselves than taking care of this particular customer. The menu sounds delicious and at $16.50 for the Halibut and Chips I was hoping for something special. I have a real weakness for good fish and chips. What they served me could cure that weakness. What I got for my $20.00 with tip was mostly deep fried beer batter and Ore Ida frozen french fries. I've had more meaty and satisfying fish from a supermarket freezer bag at home and much better from fast food chains like Burgerville. I don't know about the rest of the menu but if it's as overpriced as the Halibut and Chips, you be money ahead and much less disappointed by just getting drivethrough. But, on the other hand, if you like your fish crisp on the outside and doughy in the middle, this is the place to come more

Kid Friendly, Mother Approved 11/4/2007

I am writing to say how much I appreciate my neighborhood restaurant. Thank you Coho Cafe for being so kid friendly, reasonably priced and delicious. We are a busy family and one of our favorite things to do is dine at Coho Cafe. They are always so friendly and accomodating, especially with my children. Trying to dine with three young children is always a challenge but the people at Coho always make my family feel so welcome. The staff seems to pay special attention to our needs and many of the staff know our family by name. The menu has something to offer even the most finacky eater and the cooks always seem willing to modify meals. I would suggest Coho Cafe to anyone, thanks you for being part of our family dining experience. Pros: family dining, reasonable price, friendly, great food Cons: none more

Best in Redmond 10/25/2007

I never write these things but like to give kudos when well deserved. Coho Cafe nails it. We've always dined out alot so are pretty critical. Coho is our go-to place for romantic dinners....the salmon, service and cocktails are perfect. And, we are tending to go out for their Happy Hour more than we should. The bar is beautiful but what I really lust after is my crab and avocado tower (new invention by the chef) and gorgeous glass of wine, together still under ten bucks. Why stay home? Why drink overpriced lattes when I can look forward to a huge platter of steamed clams in a broth-to-die-for (7.50 at happy hour) and a crisp Chardonnay? Keep up the good work and I may have to move in. Their decor is upscale and happy without being pretentious and so are their people. FInally, the perfect all-around restaurant, and in Redmond. more

Love the Place! 10/16/2007

I am new to the area and one of my friends reccommended the Coho Cafe. I read some reviews online and most were favorable. I am a bit of a self claimed "foody" and typically choose a more upscale environment but I kept hearing about Coho so I thought I would give it a try. I'm Glad I did!! My family and I went last weekend and although the place was packed, the hostess sat us within 15 minutes of checkeing in. We were impressed by the look of the restaurant and the staff was very friendly. I had the seafood fettucine and it was outstanding, full of flavors and seafood in a rich creamy alfredo sauce. My wife ordered a fresh salmon filet which she liked equally as well. The best part about the meal was that it felt gourmet but at a reasonable price; something you rarely see dining out anymore. We were so glad to discover such a great restaurant in our new neighborhood. We will definately be back. Pros: Service, food, parking, economical Cons: does not take reservations for small parties more

Friendliest Restaurant in Town 10/2/2007

We live and work in Redmond and dine at the Coho's often. Despite the fact that they are always busy, we have never had a bad meal or poor experience. The staff is friendly, curteous and helpful. It feels good when we walk in and the staff recognizes us and treats us like family. Keep up the good work!! Best place to dine on the Eastside. more

I don't think my food was cooked to order, and the manager tried to send me away with a replacement To-Go box! 10/1/2007

Having lived and worked in the area for the last 5 years, this became a regular spot for me, both for business lunches and for weekend dinners where we wanted something simple and comfortable, and maybe a cocktail or two. The food has always been consistent and pretty good, and I've always been impressed with the prawns (fresh, meaty, cooked well). The place was packed with a 45 minute wait. I ordered off the festival of prawn menu based on my multiple previous good experiences, and imagine my suprise when the order arrived 10 minutes later (remember, the place is packed), before I could even finish my appetizer! Except my prawn were visably overcooked--curled tightly and wrinkled around the edges, and my mashed potatoes even looked a little crusty(!), like the edges were dried out. I took a few bites off a few prawns, and sure enough, they were tough, chewy, and no flavor. Had they been sitting under a heat lamp? I flagged down my waiter and sent it back, requesting a replacement. The manager came out about 10 minutes later, asked me if I wanted the same dish (yes, as I'd already told the waiter), and then asking if I wanted it to go! When I said no, he arrived IMMEDIATELY afterwards with my new meal. The prawns were better (but not as good as the grilled ones usually are), and this time the potatoes were very creamy and fresh, a distinctly different texture from what I'd gotten before. I can only think that since the place was so busy, they had meals waiting to go (either that or someone made an extra order by mistake, and they tried to pawn it off on me). And it was pretty obvious that the manager was trying to shoo me out the door, and that my replacement order was already up when he thought he would see if he could get me out quicker with a to go box. Thankfully they did comp my meal, but still. I was really disappointed in both of these tactics, and won't be going back soon. Cons: Overcooked or reheated food, poor managerial skills more

Great Place for Friends and Family 8/21/2007

Our daughter lives in Redmond and each time we come to visit we always go to Coho's. It seems to have a bit of something for everyone. We each try to order a different type of dinner e.g. salmon, cowboy ribeye, chops, special seafood of the day, and then we all share. Everyone has always have great things to say about the freshness and flavor of the food. The waiter(s) are very friendly and pace themselves to the wishes of the customer. The wine selection is extensive and the beer cold. Who could ask for anything more! more

Good tasty seafood, great place for a business lunch 8/9/2007

Coho's in Redmond is a good staple for business entertaining. Their seafood is always fresh and prepared well - I always enjoy the grilled salmon. The environment is relaxed and sophisticated - I enjoy going there for happy hour or a business lunch. They also take passport discount cards which is great! Parking is plentiful and I've never had a long wait. Pros: Good seafood & drinks, plenty of parking, nice staff Cons: More like business dining than everyday family dining more

Good eats with friendly staff 8/3/2007

My husband and I thoroughly enjoy dining here whenever we can. The selection makes it easy to fill any graving you may have and the food is flavorful but not overbearing with just the right blend of seasonings, spices and/or sauce. My husband generally gets the Cowboy Rib-eye or New York Steak but I enjoy trying something different and I have yet to be disappointed. The staff is friendly and it's obvious they thrive to make your dining experience special even during their busiest times. Being in the customer service industry myself, I truly appreciate the dedication, commitment and sincerity demonstrated by the Coho staff. Give it a try....you won't be disappointed. more

Good menu, affordable prices 6/10/2007

We have been eating there regularly, and almost every time it's a great menu (their specials always have at least one or two items that I am having difficult time to decide on), very tasty food, but very uneven service. Really depends on the "crew" working the shift - from very attentive, to having to wait for a while before the food arrives. They serve complimentary bread and oil with balsamic vinegar dip before dinner, and on many occasions for this to come we had to wait or even remind the waiter if we could get it. Often it would be served at the same time with dinner, which defeats the purpose. It almost feels like on some nights they are severely understaffed, because there are many empty tables, at the same time there is often 15-30 minutes wait. Still, we keep coming back, because of the good food and affordable prices. They have many healthy choices, their grilled Coho salmon is fantastic, and very creative side dishes make this place a ?must? when it comes to dining in Redmond. And of course, it?s close to Bella Botega Movie Theater, and they offer some ?movie + dinner? specials. Pros: Good menu, tasty food, affordable Cons: Uneven service more
