Cleveland Metroparks Zoo 11/30/2005

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Rainforest are certainly a sight to see. This zoo rivals most other zoo's in the United States and features an enormous tropical rainforest. You can find dozens of species of wildlife year-round, from monkey and tigers in the summer to seals and polar bears in the winter. It's especially great for families to experience the animals up close. I plan to visit the zoo again this winter for their winter lights festival. more

Very cool place 11/30/2005

I love the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. It's huge and it always seems like they've got new animals arriving. The rainforest is the best part - it's a simulated rainforest with the same sweltering temperatures and humidity of an actual rainforest, with simulated rain showers over a river of fish. They have this really cool bobcat that swoops his paw into the water and pulls fish out, which is really neat to watch. I'd never seen an anteater before this, but you can watch them suck up ants. It's a very cool place. more

Variety of animals 11/26/2005

I love the Cleveland MetroParks Zoo. It's big, with a lot of mild hills and slants, in a shady and forested area. They have a petting zoo with farm animals (the miniature pony is cute), my favorite part - the aquarium (the stingrays and sharks are so neat), a rainforest with poisonous dart frogs (hard to believe something so small can be so deadly), and every other animal you can hope a zoo would have. more

World Class 11/14/2005

I have had a membership to the Cleveland Metropark Zoo for three years and will continue to buy a yearly membership due to this ever growing zoo. The zoo offers so much for everyone! I look forward to new exhibit and or shows every year! I highly recommned a day spent here! parking is close, secure and FREE! The rainforest is also a great attraction to visit. The staff is helpful and friendly. more

Perfect Family Outing! 11/10/2005

No matter what time of year, this is a perfect outing for kids of all ages. The Rainforest can be entered on its own or you can pay a higher admisstion and enter both the zoo and rainforest both for a full day. The Rainforest takes approximately 60-90 minutes to tour in its entirety. It contains all sorts of birds, plants, monkeys, crocodiles, etc. It is housed entirely inside making it a nice getaway for a rainy afternoon. The zoo itself has a rather large footprint, but the shuttle bus service makes it easy to traverse, even with a small child/stroller. The food service is a bit expensive, but there is a MacDonalds, KFC and picnic areas that make it affordable if you're on a budget. If you go, be sure to save a few extra dollars to feed fish to the seals. Take a stroll through the butterfly garden and take the train ride through the "Outback" and see the wallabies. PROS: Affordable Family Fun! CONS: Pricey Food Service, Lots of Walking more

Great Zoo 11/9/2005

We enjoyed our visit to this zoo. The setting is very natural and the rain forest attraction is very unique. The area is very hilly and you have the option of taking a ride up the very large hill or walking the tiered stairway. We took a ride up and a walk down. They also had a playground for the kids which is always a plus. Over all we had a great time with very tired little ones at the end of the day. more

Clean wonderful zoo 11/9/2005

This zoo is located in Cleveland, OH. It is clean and the staff are wonderful. There are many areas in the zoo and it is a good walk to the aquarium, though there are trams to transport you to it. The zoo has many different animals and they appear to be well cared for. The price of admission is fair and it will provide an enjoyable day. more

Takes Pride In Their Zoo 11/8/2005

The Cleveland Zoo is a clean, friendly place that takes good care of their animals, providing very realistic artificial environments for them. They have a rainforst, which simulates a rain shower every so often and teaches facts about our actual rainforest and their sad destruction. The variety of animals is endless - big mammals, birds with large wings, aquatic creatures, tiny frogs, and everything else you can think of! Great way to spend an entire day. more

We Love the Cleveland Zoo 11/8/2005

My family loves to go to the Cleveland Zoo. There are so many types of animals. There is alot of area to cover and their shuttle is a great way to get from one end of the zoo to the other. The food selection is decent too. Our family favorite is Zoo Lights in December and is now a holiday tradition that we hope to continue for many years. more

Great Way to Spend the Day! 11/4/2005

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is such a fun place. They are always having fun shows and performances with the animals going on. It's easy to check their website and plan a day around the events. It's also fun just to visit and take pictures with the animals. The landscaping is beautiful and there is a really nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend visiting the Cleveland Zoo! more

Same as Always 11/4/2005

One good thing about the zoo. I always know what to expect. Tons of animals and a good time. There is no better value for a cleveland family: free monday at the zoo. My kids really enjoy the Looooong walks through the zoo. Dont forget to bring your wagon or stroller. more

Fun Day... 9/20/2005

My husband and I went to the Cleveland Zoo just for a change of pace and something different. The Zoo was a nice change of pace. However, I do remember there being more animals when I was younger. Our favorite animal was the polar bear. He appeared to be putting on a show by playing with his ball. The rainforest was also outstanding and a great place to take pictures. It is very hot and humid in the rainforest so be prepared. Overall the zoo was a great time for the value and we highly recommend it for a change of pace. more

Alot of walking 9/15/2005

Be prepared to walk up and down hills when you go to this zoo. This zoo doesn't offer you many chances to get close to animals because the habitats seem to be very big so the animals wander out of viewing area alot. The gift shop was very reasonable, as was admission and consessions. The Australian animals were very impressive. PROS: Good range of animals, good presentation CONS: Alot of walking, Sometimes animals can't be seen more

Great for families! 9/8/2005

We try to make at least one trip a year, if not more, to the Cleveland zoo and Rainforest. The zoo is always very well kept, clean, and family-friendly. There are several great exhibits, including the Australian outback exhibit and the monkey island. The rainforest is a separate exhibit, and you must pay extra to enter it, but it is well worth it to see the animals in this unique building. The train rides are great to get between places as well. Be prepared to walk, and some places even have small inclines. If needed, there are a lot of benches along the paths to stop and take a rest. The gift shop here has great items for kids and for any others who love nature and animals. Plan on spending a good part of a day here to see it all. more

Love It! 9/6/2005

We've been to both the Rainforest and the zoo. I liked the Zoo more, but didn't get to explore as much as I'd hoped, because the zoo is so big! It reminds me of Animal Kingdom at Disney. Very well put together and educational, lots of fun. more

Dr. Zoolittle is in Town! 9/3/2005

You can never get tired of visiting the Cleveland Zoo. I took my daughter to visit the Doctor Zoolittle show, and she was so impressed. The two ladies that organized the show were lovely and knew how to show the kids a good time. As always, a visit around the zoo with the trolley is a great idea for kids and their parents. A new feature is the camel ride, but your kid has to be over two years old to be able to enjoy it. more

Terrific Zoo 9/2/2005

The Cleveland zoo has been successfully operating for decades now. Their zoo is clean and offers what makes zoo-goers happy: a huge variety of animals (an aquarium for aquatic lovers, a bird section, large cats, primates) and the concession stands and gift shops key to a zoo (what zoo would be complete without cotton candy and hot dogs?). The zoo is well-maintained, and the zookeepers are friendly and willing to point you in the right direction. Trams are available on a regular schedule for transport. PROS: Clean, many animals CONS: None more

Children are in awe here 8/19/2005

The Cleveleand Metroparks Zoo & Rainforest is an educational and outstanding place to take your family. You can find the Dr. ZooLittles Wild Animal Show at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo which takes you on a veterinarian adventure with free-flying birds and a variety of mammals including a Fennec fox and a two-toed sloth. There is also the Safari Ride which is a 20seat simulator capsule that takes you on exciting and captivating journeys over African plains, into dense jungles and beneath the ocean. The images are projected onto a large screen at the front of the capsule and a computer synchronizes the motion to the film experience. It's great. Walk thru the emerald necklace and you'll find deer and the like. It's a great family day adventure. They also have the butterfly exhibit. Many species of exotic butterflies, including Zebra Longwing fly freely in the Zoo's Public Greenhouse through Labor Day. more

The Zoo 7/27/2005

My son and I visit the zoo often. Even in the winter months you can still be warm in the rainforest or primate buildings. We have a great time every time! more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Foragers rustling in the brush, grazers gathering on a riverbank, king carnivores hungrily eyeing their next prey. And intrepid hunters making those all-important decisions, like: ketchup, mustard, or both and relish, too? The Crocodile Café, I presume.

    Safari, So Good
Inside the geodesic dome of the environmentally correct RainForest Exhibit, predators of all ages and diet requirements can sidle up under a thatched canopy and nosh in a peaceable, quick-food kingdom. Cool (literally) décor, such as hut roofs and deck flooring, plus tables and chairs that wouldn't look out of place in a treehouse make this rest stop a hit with just about everyone. In the summer, the dining area's air conditioning is a welcome relief after all that temperature-correct tramping. And in the winter, it's just good to get inside for some coffee or hot soup.

    The Feed
A bungle through the jungle being the hungry work it is, the Crocodile snaps up finger-friendly favorites including hot dogs, hamburgers and very generous deli platters, plus plenty of coffee and soft drinks for the weary.

But We're Still at the Pachyderm House
Stomach's growling and you're nowhere near the Rainforest yet? Consider an exploration of the African savannah, where the Crocodile's faster, cheaper cousin, the Roaring Lion Café does the outdoor thing with chain pizza (Pizza Hut), burgers and ice cream. Visitors traveling without a little flock of their own can drop in the adults-only Long Necks brew stop. And, oh yes: If time allows, there's a really great zoo out there.
