Clayton Animal Hospital

I started using the services of this hospital seven years ago when I relocated to Clayton. There were only two doctors then, and the doctor who took care of my pets (2cats and a dog) was an excellent veterinarian with regards to both pet handling and relating to owner. Then things changed.\r The practice started mushrooming, new staff came on board and with that came the “puppy mill” mentality. By this I mean that monetary return became the prime concern and the animals and owners, a fading consideration.\r Since I am retired, I could no longer afford to patronize this office. I had high regard for Dr. Bagley so I still used it occasionally for urgent matters, but the last visit I made is what decided me to write this comment.\r One of my cats came in with what I feared might be a snake bite. Time being of the essence, I rushed him to Clayton Hospital. I tried to ask for my trusted veterinarian but I was told he was not available. A woman took my cat, since he was born a feral cat he is difficult with strangers so I always request to be allowed to hold him or at least be there with him. That was refused. The procedure was taking unusually long and eventually I was told that they were going to take an X-ray…for a query snake bite?\r An hour later I was told there was nothing wrong with my cat, but the bill was for $332.00 !\r For just an initial bite inspection…? This is serious abuse.\r I will no longer use this office unless I can be sure I am being seen by the honest primary veterinarian who started it.\r more

the hospital is great yes its pricey but they do a great job with my babies i wouldn't go anywhere else for medical but that groomer geez she shaved my babies. more

I took my Boston Terrier, ""Holden"", in for an exam and I was very impressed! EVERYONE in the office is extremely nice and comforting. In addition, you really get the feeling that they care about you and your furry loved one. After my initial visit, I immediately transferred from Quail Corners over to Clayton Animal Hospital. I would recommend Clayton Animal Hospital to anyone and everyone! more

Let me start this by saying that Dr Curtis Smith is great. My dog likes him and there aren't many men she likes. Yesterday, she could not stop vomiting and by the afternoon was having bloody diarrhea......more blood than feces, and was feeling weak and starting to stagger when she walked. I called Clayton Vet Hospital to get let them know she needed to be seen and was very upfront about my financial situation (got laid off and father died a week ago) and asked them to please see her and could we make some sort of financial arrangement until some money could be moved from one account to another.....which would have been this morning. It's not like we were new to them or that I have not paid for all of visits at the time of service previously. They REFUSED to see her. I have never been treated like that. The vet we used to take our animals to when I was growing up would always work with us if the animal was sick. Routine visits and shots can be rescheduled if money is tight, but a sick animal is an emergency. Common sense is encouraged in situations like this. My dog was EXTREMELY sick and had gotten that way fast. I was told by the manager that Dr Smith wasn't there so I couldn't speak to him. They made me an appointment for today when I would be able to bring money with me. My dog got worse in the evening and I was afraid she would continue to get worse during the night and would be suffering. If a sick dog has ever looked you in the eyes and looked like they were begging you to help them, you also know that wrenches at your heart. I called the Emergency Vet off of Glenwood Ave and they said to bring her immediately and we would work something out because she did needed to be seen before the morning. They took excellent care of her and we are hoping the treatment she got will work. We talked about my financial situation and helped me with a plan of care and a plan of paying it. It's good to know that some people at least think about the well being of the animal first.....or if not first, they consider it the risk of the beloved family member not getting treatment along with the financial part of it. I understand everyone needs to get paid, but at some point some compassion needs to be shown for a sick suffering animal. I've worked in medical offices for many years before the lay offs at the company I recently worked for and if a person was very sick and needed to be seen, but we needed to make some special financial arrangements, we would. It's a life people, whether it's human, canine, feline, or whatever kind of creature. I was even agreeable to letting them keep her overnight to ensure them that I would come today and pay them.......I just knew she needed to be seen by a Dr. So, today when I called the office to tell the them I took my dog to the ER Vet last night and asked for her records and explained why I would not be bringing her back there.........no concern was shown at all. No ""I'm sorry"".....no what was her diagnosis.....no anything when I told them my dog could have died without treatment. Obviously, they couldn't have cared less. Like I said before, Dr Smith is great ( I don't know about the other Drs) ......but it's not enough to make me want to deal with his uncaring staff and office manager. Yes, I understand they have a ""policy"" to not see any animal without payment on that day, even if the animal is sicker than sick.....Well, I have a ""policy"" too, and it's not to spend any of what money I do have at places like that. I will be on a search for a new vet for her follow up care. more

Dr. Holzer examined my cat for an indeterminate yet minor issue. She was extremely thorough in explaining what it possibly was, and what to watch for, but since it didn't appear to be anything major no further tests were recommended. I was completely satisfied with her diagnosis. My cat got only the necessary vaccine updates. Pros: caring techs and dr.s more

I absolutely love this place! I have been to my share of vets and was a little cautious to go to a vet in Clayton due to the rural atmosphere Clayton has. This vet hospital is up to date and current. I take my personal animals and my rescue animals there. I wish the prices were lower but they are comparable to other vet clinics. The staff is phenomenal; very friendly and knowledgeable. I just wanted to thank all the doctors at Clayton Animal Hospital for all there care and all the love that they give my animals. Dr. Bagley, Dr. Beam, Dr. Sechrist, Dr. Smith, Dr. Camacho, and Dr. Holzer. They have all shown me that they care for my animals and they would go the extra mile to take care of my beloved pets. They all ensure the best quality of medicine and they make sure to fix the problem in a matter of minutes. 3 weeks ago I had a dying dachshund and because of the help from the staff and the doctors my dog is in the best health that he could possibly be in. I do understand that sometimes cost could be a factor but if you love your furry friends you will only pick the best hospital and the best people to work on your animals. The staff is friendly and the doctors only offer the best quality care and also is the best equipt hospital in the area. I would not take my animals any where else except for Clayton Animal Hospital. If you want the best quality care then you know where to take your animals. Our greyhound fell off our front steps leaving a gash in his leg that was bleeding heavily. It was after hours so I left a message on several vets emergency lines hoping someone would be in and could tell me what to do. The vet offices that did call me back said that since he wasn't a patient already that they wouldn't see him and we'd have to take him to an emergency hospital in Raleigh. Dr. Bagley at Clayton Animal Hospital called back and said,"" I'll meet you at the office in 20 minutes"". It was so wonderful to know that someone cared this much about animals! He was very good to Fly, very knowledgible about this breed and had him stitched up in no time . Their prices were comparable to any high quality veterinary office in this area and I highly recommend them to all who care about their pets. more

Dr. Mike Bagley is the best vet in the world as far as I am concerned. I have been taking my dog and now dogs there for years. He has always given me that one on one service, and wants the best for the animal. He truely loves what he is doing and you can tell it. He has always gone the extra mile to make sure that my animals are cared for with love and diginity. His staff is remarkable. They are so friendly and helpful in whatever the situation may be. Dr. Bagley and staff continually stay abreast of the newest veterinary technology out in the world today. The office is always clean and in order. And the prices are in line with any other vets in the Raleigh area. I just can not say enough wonderful things about them. This place is crazy expensive!! The staff seems very knowledgeable and they are very friendly. There are so many people that work the front desk that it is chaotic. Sometimes the wait can be long. It seemed that every time i took one of my pets there, it always required some sort of expensive test. I rarely escaped there for under $150 per visit and that was with no problems. This hospital exceeds in every way....Dr. Bagley takes the care of your animal personally and expects the same of his staff..all of whom are equally committed...Cutting edge technology exceeding what you will find in most Raleigh clinics...In addtion, Dr. Bagley is constantly studying the most up to date veterinary info and techniques....The staff is endearing..a far departure from the callous arrogance prevalent elsewhere....Dr. Smith is a consumate source of competence as well....attention to detail and the understanding that your pet is your faimly sums up just part of what makes this place far above the rest....No..they are not cheap..but..neither is anything of truly high quality... It's true - our pets love the staff here - they are calm and affectionate and make pets feel safe. We have taken all our pets here for several years and are very please. Yes, they may cost a little bit more then other places, but the care is exceptional more

Clayton Animal Hospital is the best. The veterinarians at CAH have been taking care of my pets since the office opened years ago. Last year, I had my cat declawed, and it was not an easy decision to make, but something that had to be done, and I knew I could trust Dr. Bagley to take good care of her. She's doing great! The doctors and staff really care about their ""patients"", and are great to work with. I highly recommend them. Pros: caring staff more
