RUDE 3/20/2009

i was so disappointed because my mom, me, grandma, sister, niece, and aunt went there to have lunch for my birthday celebration. we don't get to do this very often and the people there acted like they were so much better than us - very very rude waitress....the food was not good and overpriced!! i will NOT go back and would tell anyone not to waste your time or money!! I think this place thinks that just because they're on the plaza - they don't have to be nice - WRONG!! There are other restaurants on the plaza that are good and have courteous service! Pros: don't see any pros to this place Cons: very rude people running this place, overcrowded more

Class Cup...An Award-Winning Favorite Restaurant on the Plaza 1/8/2009

My husband and I could not disagree more with the 12/30/08 review of the Classic Cup, especially about their policies and discrimination comments. Pros: See written comments. more

avoid 12/29/2008

The policy of this establishment that was stated to me over the phone today by the owner as he stumbled over his words is that any party larger than 4 will be seated in their so called Classic Cellar. This is basically the dark basement of the establishment. This policy is not listed on their boastful web site or on the door of the establishment or on their menu they so proudly display in the window. We spent $100 to be seated in what we were told was the party room on Nov. 29,2008. We had 4 children between the ages of 12 and 16. We were taken down at least 3 sets of stairs passed a door that went outside to the alley. The food was nothing special and the owner must think it is fine dinning based on the price. The 2 adults in the party had their $8 black bean chili which is basically bean soup and the bill was still $100. The service was slow and refills on drinks were far and few between of course the waiter had to run up the steps. The night manager very sorry and stated he didn't want anyone to feel that they were discriminated against and he would take care of us if we would return. He never sent anything out so when I called to check I was able to speak to the owner. He thinks his establishment is so good that you are honored to eat there. I think they are discriminating against families with children. Everyone seated in the basement were parties of 4 and larger. The interesting thing I noticed was everyone had children. The owner said the only way he discriminates is that he seats all parties of 5 and larger in his wonderful classic cellar. Most restaurants that have open tables of 4 or 2 will pull together. We didn't get a reduced rate to be in a cellar and not enjoy the candles on the table and the view of the plaza and the Christmas decorations. He stated his regulars that have children are seated up in the dinning area. Interesting his regulars another discriminating statemant more

Great place 11/20/2008

The Classic Cup takes on a different personality depending on the time of day and the season. You can sit on the outdoor patio and enjoy a glass of wine and people watching, or come for dinner and have a romantic meal in front of the fire. The Classic Cellar downstairs is a great place for larger gatherings. more

Cafe 8/14/2008

One of my favorite places to have a cup of coffee - especially during the Plaza lighting in the evenings at Christmas time. Great service, wonderful relaxed atmosphere and great coffee. more

Great outside seating 3/7/2008

The Classic Cup has outside seating in front of the restaurant and also behind the restaurant. On a nice day, it's a great atmosphere. The food is very good. It's a little pricey, but not much more than any restaurant on the Plaza. Worth trying it out. more

Great Location, Average Food, Bad Service 1/7/2008

Went for brunch and sat on the patio (this was in the fall). Our server was a total flake who forgot our coffee orders and basically deserted us til bill time. The eggs were cold, the breakfast potatoes were frozen tasting and bland, it was just really mediocre and annoying. Pros: Location, Dessert & Coffee kind of place Cons: Service more

Good food horrible wait service 10/6/2007

Decent food. Really nice seating. But you can get this anywhere on the plaza. The food arrives promptly. The wait staff was horrible except a middle aged black male. My last visit prompted this review. The wait staff appearred to be hung over. The customer service has always been bad but the food was decent and the prices were good. After this visit I will not be returning 3 strikes with the wait staff. They are even rude to each other. If you do go please ask to sit on the veranda so that you can at least have a nice view to go along with the bad service. I can not believe these kids are our future leaders. Pros: Good food decent priced Cons: Bad service. more

Great food & great people watching 11/18/2006

We found this quite by accident on our first visit. Now we try to visit whenever we are in town. We have dined there for lunch and dinner and have found the food to be really outstanding. We like the selection of lighter foods. We also love being able to people watch out on the patio. Definitely worth a visit. Pros: Great food alfresco and people watching more

Nice most of the time 10/2/2006

I am a regular of the Plaza restaurant/coffee scene. I have a European leaning in taste and enjoy the outdoor european cafe atmosphere of this restaurant. The food is good and sophisticated, mixing mediterranean fare with the obligatory need to meet the american palate for steak and meat dishes. Meals begin with a basket of fresh white and brown bread. It's the perfect place to start with a lemon-infused sparkling water or glass of wine. There is also a back patio area perfect for drinks with friends on the weekends. If I were to improve the place, it would probably be in the area of service. Most servers are friendly, but not professional or refined enough, for my taste, for this sort of restaurant. Often the servers are college age students making some coin, which I do appreciate, but believe the management needs to do a better job training them. My last visit was sadly unpleasant as a rather rude male server with an attitude refused to double check the ingredients of a soup dish I was interested in (""I know what is in the soup, I don't need to recheck.""). I recognized his impeccable memory, but due to past experience, I asked him to do so anyway. Again, ""I know what is in the soup, I don't need to recheck."" The mind boggles. NOTE TO CLASSIC CUP CAFE MANAGEMENT: THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT! Terminate that waiter and reeducate the remaining staff that the customers comes first and foremost to be served, not just food! I wasn't going to return after the last time, but I will let it pass this one time, figuring that it was a blip. more
