The food was fresh and came early (it was still steaming hot). I wish that they had thrown in a few more packets of ketchup though. Also, it was kind of bland (but what do you expect from Clarke's?). I'm just happy that they are delivering now because they are the perfect diner for students (in that they fulfill those anxiety binges)... more

Great turkey burger! Sweet potatoe fries were a bit soggy, tho. Those went home to the oven. My order was ready at the time it was supposed to be! I was glad 2 find something that I was craving for close by. more

Found a small insect on an omelette 1/25/2009

They just ruined my lunch, it was the most disgusting experience I ever had in my life. Howcome there was a small insect in my omelette? I am a foreign citizen, I have been in 4 continents, one of them Africa and this has never happened to me before. The behavior of the manager was completely inadequate also, I complained and she didn't give any reasonable answer. The place is full, but it's grose. I am sure that that kitchen is sistematically dirty, don't eat there. Where can I complain about this? This can't be just like that. Pros: location Cons: service, manners, dirty more

A great breakfast, lunch, and dinner place 3/7/2008

All i have to say is that over the last 2 years the service there has improved big time the staff isnt the same there has been a couple of changes and i would say for the best. i dont understand why some people say that they have been there more than once and the service is horrible.... why would you keep returning if you've had a bad expericence? I agree that sometimes on the weekend there is a long wait but hey your not the only one thats waiting to be seated... the food is great and so is the service! This is a diner not a fast food resturant... if you want fast service walk over to burger king! more

Re-review 10/23/2007

I'm going to amend my review from before. They have definitely improved their service in the half dozen or so times I've been there since I wrote my first review. Better service from the wait staff overall, better food quality, and no screw-ups on orders. To answer the last reviewer's question, we keep going there because there aren't all that many choices if you don't want to go ethnic all the time in downtown Evanston, and Clarke's has always been better on the price side. CLARKE'S IS THE WORST PLACE TO EAT IN EVANSTON 6/1/2006

The only redeeming quality of Clarke's is the decent food. However, the poor service (if you can even call it that) leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The servers are slow and unfriendly. On one occasion my server complained to another server in Spanish in front of me that I brought my check up to the register instead of waiting for her to come to get it, but I had waited long enough and had to go back to work. On another occasion, I picked up an order from there, which they aknowledged getting wrong, but they refused to refund that part of the order, only telling me that I could drive back over and get something else or come back another day for a replacement. **HORRIBLE*** Pros: you'll love it if..., you're a masochist Cons: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE more

GO here to be treated like dirt. 9/7/2003

Disrepectful and very bad treatment - my friend and I were told that we had to leave there was a long line of people waiting to be seated. (11:00 AM Sunday) As we left, we saw 5 empty tables and no one waiting to be seated. The manager said it is their policy to ask people to leave after an hour and a half. We are very sad to be treated like dirt. This is my son's favorite restaurant - we have been going there once a month for 14 years and now will never go back. LUV THIS PLACE @ 3:00am 12/5/2002

After a night of going out and winding up at the lounge next door we decided to take the hopskip next door for late night chow. The tomato soup was incredible, the skillet dish and omelettes hit the spot and the patty melt was great. (We shared) Definitely an intresting crowd. more

Clarke's Rocks 12/2/2002

I have been eating at Clarke's for over 8 years. The food is excellent, the service is good ALMOST all the time, and if I want a burger at 9:00am or an omelette at 10:00pm and a baked apple pancake at 5 in the afternoon I can get all three anytime. Oh, and how about that Tomato soup. Pros: Great Food, Great Prices, Inexpensive Cons: Tough to Park, Waiting line when BZ, too loud sometimes more

Now, I haven't been to the Clark's in Chicago, But the one in Evanston has got to have to worst service I have ever experience. I went in to grab a quick desert, we didn't get served for 20 min, then we waited 25 min for our simple desert to be delivered to our table. Never again will I subject myself to this kind of tourment. more
