â??stayed last minute, was not disappointedâ??\r

My boyfriend and I wanted to make a stop in Santa Cruz before driving back down to San Diego. We were in Concord and decided to stay in San Jose to cut off some driving time for the next day. We had to find someplace last minute, and most of the other hotels we looked at were booked up or a little too expensive. We booked this room on the way down. \r

The hotel lobby was really nice, it had an old victorian feel to it. The place was really more like a B&B than a chain hotel, which we really liked. The staff were all very nice, even though we checked in really late the young girl working there was alert and ready to help us out. Our room was upstairs and I didn't see an elevator, so that might be something to consider if you cannot use stairs. \r

The room was beautiful, very clean. We just had a single queen bed I think. The TV was large and was able to get good reception. They offer free wifi, I don't think we needed a password. I was really happy about how well the wifi worked because I had an online meeting to log into the next morning, and I was able to do so without any problem. The parking lot was small but I think it reflected the number of rooms available. very quiet during our short stay.\r

The location is decent. We wanted to stay in that area because we had a friend who lived nearby that we wanted to see that night. There isn't a whole lot walking distance, but you can get just about anything you need with a short drive. \r

$130 a night seems expensive, but it was a great value considering we split it between two of us, and I usually pay about 60 to 70 on my own when I stay at a hotel. Also, the room and service was excellent so we had absolutely no gripe about the price, especially when you consider we booked the room just a few hours before we stayed. We have had bad experiences with cheap, low star places before, so we are okay with spending a bit more for quality. This isn't really a place to pack as many people as you can into a room. It's more for a comfortable stay with the appropriate number of people, so if you are perhaps taking a trip to san jose and staying for a while, I would recommend the Clarion.
