Step Back in Time 5/25/2007

It's worth going here just for the atmosphere. It's 1776 and you can have the favorite libation of one of the founding fathers. Add to this some historic food pairings and yummy desserts and you will have a wonderful if pricey meal. I loved it so much that I brought my two twelve year old grandchildren here and they got right into the spirit of things. The food is actually very good and service is stellar. It really is a lot of fun. more

City Tavern 2/25/2006

City Tavern is a great lunch or dinner destination for tourists visiting Philadelphia. Prices are definitely cheaper for lunch than for dinner, but the menu looks about the same for both, so go for a late lunch here. Of particular note is the selection of beer, most of which are "special recipes" from our nation's forefathers. My wife and I enjoyed dinner here one evening, but we were stuck in a room with a large bus tour. Make reservations if you go in the summer, and watch out for large tour groups. more

A Historic Lunch or Dinner 2/9/2006

City Tavern reminds me a lot of a themed restaurant in Disney World. The whole atmosphere is top-notch, and the wait staff is costumed in clothing from the late 18th century. Prices are pretty steep here, as it's a major tourist and bus tour destination; still, the food and service are well-worth the price for an amusing and delicious meal. Be sure to check out the special microbrews CT advertises. more
