Owner Jo Larkie and her chef/son Rick had a 5-star restaurant in Palm Beach for many years before opening this 50's style diner. You can get diner classics you'd expect--great so...

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Coconut cream pie was the best thing I've had in a long time. Great find! more

If you like REAL Caesar Salad (like they used to make it) you will love theirs. I had it the first time with the grilled shrimp but I like less dressing. So the next tie I wet in, I asked the chef to lightly dress it-it was awesome!! The shrimp are huge and perfectly cooked. I dream about having this salad again!!! more

Great milkshakes! Good sandwiches and burgers, I love coming here, feels like an authentic diner and there aren't many around here in WPB so it's nice to find this jem. more

On a recent visit for breakfast with my four old son I witnessed the owner throw out an elderly patron. The elderly man was quietly eating his breakfast. The owner served him black burnt toast. The elderly man mentioned that the toast was burnt and that he could not eat it. The owner replied that it was too bad and that the toaster was broken. The elderly man said he would have plain bread. The owner screamed no and told the elderly man to leave. The owner then proceeded to call the police and have the elderly man removed from the restaurant. more

Will never step foot in this place again. Have dined there many times before, with friends, with neighbors, with family, Went tonight and was offered a seat on a barstool, I declined due to a back problem, was told I could not be seated at a table as I was only 1, offerd a seat outdoors on what she referred to as the terrace, literall a paved area that used to be parking between the building and the curb of the side street. Wven though there was a indoor table available, no one else needing a table. They don't take reservations, however she wanted to reserve the table for who may or may not come in with 2 or more persons. To top if off was extremely rude about it. Many of my neighbors who dine there regularly were appalled at what I told them and really feel no need to return as well. In this economy, I don't know how you treat a local diner, lives in the neighborhood and expects to survive. In reading reviews, I see I'm not the only one who isn't totalluy satisfied. more

They have a pretty good special that is the basic two eggs, grits, home fires or oatmeal and toast w/coffee for I think . . . $3. But it's the quality of the food and the staff that make this a great spot. Sundays are difficult to get in, but weekdays, hang out and drink coffee. Nice atmosphere. Oh! Best Ruben sandwich I ever had! Do their own corned beef-yum!! more

My husband and I went to City Diner last week and enjoyed it a great deal. We had gone there after being ignored for over 15 minutes at a restaurant further down the road. We were delighted to find such a cute establishment and the food was great! However this was short lived. We went to the Diner again last evening thinking what a fabulous meal we were about to have and this did not occur. We were greeted and seated outdoors which was perfectly fine. Another gentleman was seated outdoors at the same time we were. he was immediately waited on, another table was seated and then another, all waited on immediately! All this time we had been completely overlooked by not one but THREE different waitresses who by the way looked directly at us. We were not offered drinks, we were not told they were busy it would be a minute, we were not acknowledged in any way whatsoever. So we got up to leave and the hostess asked why we were leaving so my husband told her and that this was unacceptable. She tried to make it seem like it was her fault but it was clearly not. To make matters worse, I tried to call this morning and was hung up on when I ask if the manager was available, I called back and mysteriously the number went to a fax machine. Now I will get to the part that may or may not be relevant - my husband happens to be Mexican American, 4th generation, I speak more Spanish than he does and I am by the way Caucasion! I hate to think that in this century, the world is still so ignorant but at this point I see no other option. It is appalling! Needless to say, we will not be frequenting their establishment again. I am sure this will not cause them to file for bankruptcy but perhaps someone will read this comment and think twice about the way they treat their paying customers. The ones that put a pay check in their pocket! As I said we did leave and fortunately for us found The Dixie bar and Grill, right down the road, which by the way were more than happy to wait on us, extremely friendly and quite welcoming. We will definitely go back and see Jennifer, our waitress. So maybe all in all this was a blessing in disguise. Great food and Great service at Dixie - the way it is supposed to be. more

More Than You'd Expect from a Diner 9/10/2010

Owner Jo Larkie and her chef/son Rick had a 5-star restaurant in Palm Beach for many years before opening this 50's style diner. You can get diner classics you'd expect--great soups, sandwiches, chickenpot pie, shakes, and homemade desserts-- but each night also offers a choice of a half dozen dinners you wouldn't expect to find in a diner: potato-crusted snapper, steak, scallops, stuffed shrimp, linguini with clams, to name a few. Jo's apple pie is a mile high and not to be missed. A great choice and great prices for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. more

It's a diner with above average food. I had Chicken Fried Steak for breakfast during my last visit and it was pretty tasty. Service was slower than normal though--I think they were a waitress short. \r \r The walls here are covered with memorabilia from the early 50's. Suspended from the ceiling are childrens' toys.\r \r I come here for a decent breakfast served at a reasonable price. more

Great diner with a very nostalgic ambience and friendly staff. Check out the old time photos and ads on the walls. I thoroughly enjoyed the meatloaf sandwich and bread pudding. more
