Editorial review from Citysearch 11/26/2013

SERVICE CUSTOMER BEWARE!!!!!!\r On Monday, April 16th my GOLF R suddenly stopped running. No warning signs, simply died and wouldn't start again. I called VW roadside to have it towed to City VW to diagnose the problem. I was informed the water pump failed and VWofA had approved a new motor to be installed and covered by my warranty. On April 25th I pulled out of VW with a new motor in my car.\r \r Fast forward to early September, my car dashboard suddenly lights up with a CEL then an EPC then finally a flashing CEL. I pulled over immediately and had the car towed to City VW. 4-5 days later I was told by Jim Klepper and VWofA representative ""Ruben"" that my warranty was void due to aftermarket parts. City VW never diagnosed the car and now (3 months later) VWofA wants me to pay to have it towed from where it sits now to Mossy VW of El Cajon to have it diagnosed. This was after 3 months of begging and pleading, yelling and frustrated for someone to tell me how one of my aftermarket parts caused the issue. Finally I got someone to say that VWofA would send in writing a letter stating that my warranty was void due to the aftermarket parts. It wasn't until then when I read a paragraph from the FTC website stating it was illegal for them to do and say this. Jim Klepper has yet to respond to my email that references the below paragraph. Read the below paragraph that comes straight from the Federal Trade Commission website- \r \r ""Will using 'aftermarket' or recycled parts void my warranty?\r No. An 'aftermarket' part is a part made by a company other than the vehicle manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer. A 'recycled' part is a part that was made for and installed in a new vehicle by the manufacturer or the original equipment manufacturer, and later removed from the vehicle and made available for resale or reuse. Simply using an aftermarket or recycled part does not void your warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal for companies to void your warranty or deny coverage under the warranty simply because you used an aftermarket or recycled part. Still, if it turns out that the aftermarket or recycled part was itself defective or wasn't installed correctly, and it causes damage to another part that is covered under the warranty, the manufacturer or dealer has the right to deny coverage for that part and charge you for any repairs. The FTC says the manufacturer or dealer must show that the aftermarket or recycled part caused the need for repairs before denying warranty coverage.""\r \r After having my car diagnosed by a mechanic, I was informed that cylinder 2 had zero compression. Basically, the motor was toast.... again! After researching what causes this on a new motor with just 5k miles, website after website mentions the number one reason being low oil. I never had an oil light come on. Could it be that the tech at City VW didn't put oil in the car when replacing the motor? Low and behold, I check the invoice and no oil on it, however, there was freon and engine coolant. The single most important item for a engine to run smoothly for a long period of time is.... you guessed it... OIL! I wouldn't trust anyone at the City VW service department with my bicycle, let alone my car. more

terrible serivce, do NOT buy a car from here 6/13/2008

DO NOT DO BUY A CAR FROM HERE.....terrible service. My initial salesperson was new and knew absolutely nothing about the car or much about the company. When presented with the financing options they pushed all the extended warranties and extra upgrades on me. The first worksheet they handed me gave a grand total of almost $4000 over the price of the car. After getting that taken care of and finalizing all the paperwork I was finally ready to drive the car home. As soon as i put in the key, the check engine light goes off. They told me if was just because the salesman didn't put the gas cap on properly when they filled the tank. it should go away...well it didn't. I get a call from the financing department 2 days later telling me that they couldn't approve me at the APR that i signed in my contract. they wanted to bump me up to 9.9%...seemed strange to me since i was already pre-approved and drove the car off the lot. made me feel as though they were trying to doup me into a higher rate, even the lady at my credit union agreed, so i went through my own bank and got approved at an even lower rate anyway than the dealership. so after that i bring the car back to the dealership to get power locks and windows installed. they promised it in one day and it took them three days. On top of that i drive it home and the next day find out the windshield wipers will not work. so again i drive it back. they installed the power locks wrong and it blew the fuse to the windshield wipers. Totally upset now, they fix it i head home. two days after the check engine light goes back on....Every single time I've had a problem with the car I've driven it back and dealt with very unhelpful people. I bought a brand new 2008 Chevy Cobalt, and I brought the car back 5 times within the first 14 days of ownership. For all the heartache and trouble they caused me the service manager was only able to offer me 2 free oil changes. I NEVER want to deal with this company again more
