I have lived at Circle for 4 months and here are my thoughts: Pros: coffee, many group activities, rail access Cons: thin walls, garage entry/exit sucks, overcrowded pool

Expensive apartment with MANY issues 9/3/2011

WORSE THAN A FRAT-HOUSE. The circle is the hands down the worst apartment I've ever lived in. The rent is astronomically high considering that I can hear my upstairs neighbor doing EVERYTHING. I can hear him walking around, I can hear his dog walk around, and I can even hear him peeing when he using the restroom. The fire alarms have gone off 8 times in the last year, and the wiring was done incorrectly (there is never a fire, and the alarms ALWAYS go off for 1-3 hours, often times between the hours of 1am-5am.) I have lost many nights of good rest due to the insufficiently installed fire alarms. On numerous occasions I have seen animal fecal matter in the hallways. The building is sinking on the E. Bland St side, and the building is settling wrong as a result, causing cracks throughout the building. ATT&T U-Verse is not available at The Circle, which is in the middle of downtown. I've heard that this is due to the fact that The Circle is owned by Duke Energy, who partnered with Time Warner and wouldn't allow U-Verse. I pay 1200/mo for this shithole, and I was honestly more comfortable in a dorm room. more

Don't let the look fool you! 3/16/2011

I have been living at the Circle for about 5 months now and this apartment complex is not the best place to live. Ever since moving here I have not a had a full nights rest and I wake up atleast one time every hour. All of the doors in the building slams very loudly, and the amount of noise in the hallways is ridiculous. The drunks that roam the hallways screaming every night of the week is more than enough. I can hear my neighbor on the phone at night, coughin, and the person above me walking sounding as if there is a bunch of large animals walking around. I have complained to the office twice about the noises and not sleeping at night, they always tell you they will have someone look into the situation. There is only lady in the office that is friendly and I haven't seen her there in a long time. I am young and I cannot wait to get out of this FRAT house! more

Look elsewhere 7/23/2010

I have to say that I'm relieved my lease is expiring soon. The hallways always stink of dog poop because there are so many untrained pets in the building, the gym is always full with broken machines and no clean towels, the pool is dirty and constantly overcrowded, the bbq grills are disgustingly dirty, people are constantly roaming through the halls drunk at night and the worst thing of all - you can hear every movement from the unit above you because the walls are so thin. Now there are car break-ins in the ""secured"" parking area too! The garage layout is horrid that everyone keeps running into the lamp posts or scratching their cars against the entryways because it's inconvenient to get in and out. The apartment is supposedly smoke-free but i've seen many a folks smoking on premises including in the garage. My friends and I have reported issues to management but nothing gets resolved...they just say they're looking into it and that's it. Definitely look elsewhere! Pros: Smoke-free?? Not really. Cons: Noisy, Unmaintained, Not Secure! more

Going downhill!! 6/26/2010

Have to agree with the other reviews. I've been living here since last year and I've noticed significant, negative changes over the past few months, quite possibly due to a large number of occupants moving in and not enough staff to maintain the premises. 1) The hallways constantly smell of vomit and dog feces. It's clear many pets are not house trained and are doing their business where they please. Pet owners are not picking up after their pets around the property requiring tenants to watch where they step! 2) The pool is definitely always overcrowded and dirty! Clean the pool!! I once tried to use the bbq grills and it was absolutely disgusting. 3) The gym NEVER has any clean towels or sanitary wipes. Most of the machines are broken - the ellipticals have this constant beeping noise that's a disturbance to everyone working out in the gym. The tvs on two of the treadmills never work either. The gym could use a few more cardio machines too because like the pool, it's getting overcrowded! 4) and what a nightmare the garage is. There are always cars parked next to the gate requiring a lot of effort on our part just to try to get in and out of the secured garage area. After you successfully maneuver your way through the gate, you then need to cautiously maneuver out the garage entrance being careful not to hit the frame, any people exiting the side entrance, the lamp posts, and the perfectly placed garden in the middle of the ""driveway"". The only remaining upside is the location to uptown and dilworth, but not enough to keep me around! Pros: Location Cons: No Upkeep more

Disappointed! 6/22/2010

Hi, lived at the Circle for a few months now and I can't say I'm all too pleased. Agree with the previous review ? love the sbux coffee except half the time it?s not ?warming up? which takes 15min/+ sometimes or they don?t have cups! Stopped using the pool because it's overcrowded every wkd and there are never enough chairs. The pool is pretty small too. I've been going to my friend's pool at the Catalyst - larger, cleaner and best of all, quiet! I also noticed our pool is really dirty but it might have just been that particular day. I don?t use the gym but I've seen it get pretty full. Garage is annoying ? they shouldn?t allow cars to park in the spots adjacent to the gates so it?s easier for cars to enter and exit. I've had some issues with late night noise from late night partyers who insist on talking loudly in the hallways at 3-4am! I also think the walls between floors are thin because even though I live on the top floor, I was visited by the tenant below asking what I was doing in my apt because it sounded like I was throwing weights around ? I was just walking around!?! I like the energy efficiency savings in my utility bill. I haven't used the community room except to get coffe but it's not as large or nice as the Catalyst's. I don't use the Links rail but it's conveniently located behind the building for those that do. Overall, not too many pros. Would pay a bit more to stay at the Catalyst and get better amenities. Pros: coffee (when it's working!) Cons: garage, pool, noisy residents more
