Cinerama - the world's only remaining super cinerama 7/11/2007

I'm going to get my one and only complaint about the Cinerama out of the way so I can get on to the good stuff: the parking situation sucks. Other than that, it is an amazing theatre, both visually and auditorially. The sound is brilliant; Lucasfilm certified (which is super hard to get) and the screen is magnificent. Whether you sit upstairs or down, you're stoked. more

Big screen for big movies 12/4/2006

The Cinerama is a classic and by far the biggest screen in Seattle. They play the big blockbuster movies and seeing films here really is different that at your average theater. The best is if you can get tickets to an opening show of something you're really looking forward to. The fans that show up there are always so into the movies in the first few days. Seeing the Lord of the Rings films there was an experience I will never forget! It is important to note that if you go when there is a crowd, you will have to wait outside until about 10 minutes before the show is supposed to start and people start lining up very early, so plan ahead. more

The best place to see a movie 7/5/2006

Hands down. There is no comparison to this theatre and it's MEGA HUGE screen. My first movie here was Star Wars in 1977, then Grease in 1978. I still fondly remember them and the many movies that I've seen there since then. There's a reason that this is an old Seattle favorite - this is the way that movies used to be watched, and the way they come out best on-screen. For big Hollywood blockbusters, this is the ONLY place in the universe to see those movies. Thank God Paul Allen bought it and is renovating it! more

but what about my HEAD! 5/17/2006

great screen/sound/atmosphere. But seriously, did they not even take into consideration our heads in those seats? The seats have that cool rocking motion (which kinda gets annoying and uncomfortable) but there's nothing to rest my head on, unless I squat WAY down in the seat (even more uncomfortable). Doesn't really matter much...I still like movies on that big screen! Almost as much as the IMAX more

It's ok 5/17/2006

Big screen, nice sound, good choice in titles, but I find the chairs too small. Is it just me? more

Great movie theater 5/7/2006

You can beat the Cineram for sheer size of screen - people lined up around the corner and camped on the sidewalk to get in when the Star Wars movies opened here. I don't think I'd go *that* far to see a flick here - but it is a great theatre with a huge screen. (Despite it's rather run down appearance from outside - the inside has been restored and is very nice.) more

Great screen! 4/8/2006

This theater has a huge screen which is great for action movies and for feeling like you are really there! It's a great experience that I believe was made possible by our favorite Seattle billionaire (ok it's a toss up) Paul A. It's in a good location too, close to downtown. Lines can be long though so get there early for popular shows! more

I love the Cinerama. 4/1/2006

I always get so excited when the film I want to see is playing at the Cinerama. The HUGE screen makes it feel like much more of an experience than going to the normal theatre. The only drawback is that they only play one film at a time, and often for very long spans of time. So if you've already seen say, Chronicles of Narnia, you likely won't be back for a few months until they change flicks. Regardless, make a point to visit the Cinerama. It's fabulous! more

This Bygone Technology Will Make a Comeback! 3/17/2006

Cinerama came about soon after people realized that the could watch television instead of having to go to movie theaters. These gigantic theaters provided an experience on a scale that could not be matched. They were the visual equivalent of watching three movies at once, because that is essentially what they were: a front movie and two side movies fused. But the cost of cinerama apparently outweighed the benefits, and so Hollywood decided to just go with wider films. Mark my words: technology will soon eliminate some of the enormous financial burdens associated with creating such films and venues like this one will become more of the norm. But for now, it's the best place to watch eye-candy films. And with theater prices so expensive anyway, you might as well spend the extra dollar for for the very best experience. more

I got a little ill. 3/10/2006

Everyone has been begging me to check this theater out. When I finally got there I got a little ill from how the screen was positioned. Its an enormous screen that is shaped inward to give the audience more of an effect from the movie. I wasn't really impressed by this and didn't see what the big deal was. It felt like a normal theater to me only a little too overwhelming. I think I will just stick to the basic theater rather than get ill. more

What a gorgeous theater! 1/23/2006

This place is amazing. I wish all movie theaters kept their old school charm. Plus, I've only been in Seattle a couple of months, and the only movie I've seen there was the Curse of the Were Rabbit, which makes you happy, whereever you are! more

Totally cool I'd watch anything there 1/8/2006

Quite literally I've told folks that you should just watch any movie that is there. They tend to pick great ones and the screen is unbelievable as is the sound. They also let you buy your tickets on line. Actually these days, IMAX competes with them. Seeing the Matrix in IMAX was really amazing, but for most things I'd be at the Cinerama any day of the week. more

A movie lovers dream 1/6/2006

Sure, it may only be one screen, but its one of the best screens in the Pacific Northwest. It doesn't have a bad seat in the house, the screen is gigantic and amazing, and the sounds is all digital. If you want to see a movie that has lots of special effects, there is really no place better than the Cinerama. Tickets are slightly more pricey than the average theater, but it turns out there food is slightly less of a rip off than the normal movie theater, so it kind of rounds itself out. I always think parking is going to be a hassle there, but something usually works out that is not too far, and if you are lazy or in a hurry, they have a pay lot right next to the theater. Thank Paul Allen for this one!! more

Best Theatre for Disabled in Seattle 12/29/2005

This is not only a great theatre but one that understnad the problems that the disabled have in many theatres. The seats for disabled are in the center of the theatre and clearly marked. The staff will assist you if you need help and the theatre is clean. Plays some of the best movies in seattle and has great sound. more

Best Movie Theater in Seattle 11/23/2005

There is no better place in Seattle to catch a movie! This place has a huge screen and it draws big crowds to every big opening. Tickets usually sell out for the opening days in advance and the line winds around the block. If you dont mind the crowd, it is so much fun to sit with so many people so excited to see the movie. My only complaint is parking. There is one pay lot behind the theater, but if you dont get there early you will have to park somewhere else. more

great screen, sound, and seats 11/14/2005

great screen, sound, and seats -- if there's a big movie, it's worth waiting in line. more

Great sound 11/14/2005

It is one of the best theaters in the Seattle area. You must watch all the big sound effect movies in this theater. One thing I dislike is parking, they just don’t provide it…may be it’s because it’s in the downtown area and parking is scarce. The sound system is the best and can’t stop mentioning about it. more

Now this is a theater 9/14/2005

What a treasure! About 6-7 years ago it looked like the last shows to be played at Cinerama would be the original Star Wars trilogy. The manager came to the front of the theater before each show and asked the audience to call the owners to see what they could do to keep this landmark open. WHo knew that movie buff Paul Allen would finance the restoration and update of the theater. It is on of the largest screens in the country, and one of the few theaters ever built to show epics such as Lawrence of Arabia (which you haven't see until you've seen it here). It was state-of-the-art in the 1960s, and with Allen's investment it is state-of-the-art again today, with the most sophisticated film and digital projection systems and audio systems available. Best of all, it still has that funky 60s feel, with a brilliantly executed splash of 21st century added. Whenever there's a big movie to be seen, Cinerama is the only place to see it. more
