Superior selection! 1/27/2010

This store has been around since 1997 and they've always carried a surprizing inventory of cigars. I mean they have cigars that are not available to larger stores on the Mainland. I just bought a box of 5 year aged Fuente maduros that were totally out of this world. At least half of the shelves are stocked with cigars that are no less than 12+ months of extra-aging. I've never seen that done anywhere else in this country. What's that worth? If this was a wine shop where it is more common that adds value to the product.\r Anyway, the owner Joe, has his likes and dislikes. But he is the store and his choices are usually correct. He is not a fan of the Habana cigar because of the poor quality of construction and general lack of quality standards. I don't agree with all his views but will concede on this point. Like he says "forbidden fruit is always sweeter". The store has its favorites like Arturo Fuente, Ashton, AVO, Zino Platinum, Cuesta-Rey, Partagas, Camacho, Oliva, Rocky's to name a more

What a cigar shop should be like. 1/4/2010

Me and my boss had just come from a place that had practically no cigars in the humidor and this store was a total contrast to the previous one. The owner was knowlegeable and has a great sense of humor. One of the smokes I bought was a Fuente Work of Art Maduro, it was aged so long the cellopane was brownish. We smoked our cigars at an outdoor bar not far from the shop. We went back the next day and almost maxed out the card. \r \r We travel about 6 months each year and it's good to know that we found a great little cigar store in Honolulu. Their selection is quite good and the fact that they age so much of the inventory is a testimony to patience. I could never do what this guy Joe does. I have no qualms about awarding Cigar-Cigar 5 stars. Pros: Huge selection of high quality cigars Cons: ? more

I smoke 3-5 cigars a week and there is always a great assortment of cigars for between $5-7. I would rather support my local merchant (who ages his product) than someone on the web who I don't know how they store, much less, age their cigars. \r \r BTW I'm retired army and I will share with you that Joe has personally donated over 2500 cigars to our guys stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan over a 5 year period. He gave me a box of stogies for my sons platoon last Christmas. Joe is a very interesting man, you'll always get a straight answer if you ask him. As long as I live in this state he'll have my business.\r \r Pros: Broadest selection of cigars in the state Cons: why can't it be open 24/7? more

Excellent every time. 11/16/2009

Best cigar store in town. The owner knows what cigars need. Some need to be aged. He does it. For some cigars a year or more. So you pay a little more. But you get a reliably good smoke every time. I couldn't figure out why the same cigar tasted better here than elsewhere. Joe told me about the ageing. Like wine. Add that you can sit and smoke, you get Joe's experience and personality, and he'll always steer you right - sometimes even surprise you - when you let him suggest something. Just go - you'll be glad you did. Pros: Good selection, Excellent service, Atmosphere Cons: Nope. more

Great Place for a Cigar 3/14/2009

Cigar Cigar on King Street has been my preferred location for cigar buying locally. Although I do order some cigars online (the ones I smoke frequently and order in bulk), when I'm in the mood for something different I head down to see Joe Hilton at Cigar Cigar. Joe is an incredibly friendly man. He is the owner of this cigar shop and has an incredible knowledge of cigars. He can tell you what kind of wrapper and filler is used in each cigar, and even let you know where the tobacco came from or the wrapper leaf comes from. The prices here are a little high, especially if you're used to just ordering online . However, Joe's cigars are usually aged for some time until he deems them to be ready. Often times I will walk in and ask Joe what he recommends, and he'll let me know about a ""new"" box he has just opened up for sale. Sometimes he recommends high price cigars, sometimes they are cheaper ones. All the cigars that I've purchased from Cigar Cigar that had Joe's recommendation were great. The shop is small but has a comfortable seating area that has a nice breeze that passes through it. I've never been in a situation where you weren't allowed to smoke inside the shop. Usually there are other customers there enjoying a smoke, but if not Joe is great company. I can say I'm a loyal customer to Joe Hilton and Cigar Cigar and appreciate his dedication to bringing quality to his customers. Pros: Huge selection, aged cigars, knowledgeable owner, parking Cons: Price (for the casual smoker) more

Tops in my book 11/16/2008

My experience with Cigar-Cigar has been noteworthy. The owner is always cheerful and helpful. I consider myself a knowledgeable cigar smoker and have visited numerous stores in Honolulu and throughout the world. I have witnessed the owner helping me and other customers, always a class act. I have even brought my boss with me who is a real aficianado. The owner really knows his stuff. A few years ago this guy was responsible for sending out over a couple of thousand smokes to servicemen stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan. How bad can this place really be? more

Cigar-Cigar Etc. Honolulu Hawaii 12/6/2007

Cigar shops have come and gone in this town over the past 12 years. In fact, most of the stores listed on the internet in Honolulu have been out of business for over 5 years, except one. Joe Hilton is the owner of Cigar-Cigar and has been for over 10 years. He is the only guy I know of that intentionally extra-ages his cigars to make them into the best cigars you can buy just about anywhere. He keeps an incredible inventory and will choose to hold back cigars if it does not meet his criteria. I've sampled some of his 5-10 year aged Fuente's which are incredible, better than most Cubans!\r \r I trust this stores cigars. I've been there a lot and if a customer has a request he will try and meet the demand. The owner is honest and helpful and human. He doesn't kiss anybodys rear end. He gives you the facts and you make the decision to buy. He does not sell cheap cigars. There's a sign there that says, ""Life too short to smoke bad cigars"", so true. He also sell S.T. Dupont Lighters of which I have three and he made me a very good price. I like the store, I like the owner and I love the cigars.\r \r Happy smoke rings.\r \r Pros: Inverntory and selection Cons: ? more

Friendly and Knowledgeable 10/26/2007

I have found the owner to be accommodating, friendly, informative, and willing to give a good deal. While the hours do vary, Joe is easy to talk with and I have had a great time discussing cigars, scotch and people in general. I have many other friends who say the same thing. Cigar Cigar, etc. is a great place, Joe Hilton is a great guy. Check it out. Pros: Service, friendliness, knowledge Cons: parking more

Overpriced, Stay Away, Grouchy Owner, 8/24/2007

Good selection of Premium Cigars that are Overpriced. Store does not keep regular hours and has limited parking. Often you are not allowed to smoke the overpriced premium cigars in the store! Best to stay away, order cigars over the internet at less than half price or go to another local cigar store where the cigars are 10% to 20% cheaper. As if your experience could get no worse, the owner may attempt to sell you additional cigars or products such as $1,000 lighters. Have noted the owner to be somewhat arrogant and snobbish. Recall one occassion where the owner shoved me aside because I was blocking his view of the Humidor. One thing is for sure, the owner will let you know who owns the store and who the ""customers"" are. Avoid this place completely. more

If you know cigars, this is the place. Even if you don't. 1/18/2007

Cigar Cigar is an old-school cigar shop. The owner, Joe, is almost always on site, and his knowledge of cigars is legendary. He has a great inventory, and it is consistent. So many cigar shops come and go, but this place has been around for almost ten years. With Hawaii's new anti-smoking laws, it is good to know there is a place for "Brothers (or sisters) of the Leaf" to go, get a great cigar. I like it here because you can sit down and enjoy a cigar in a relaxed environment. There are always interesting folks around. Whether you live here or not, it is worth a trip when you want to relax. more

Great Place for Cigar Lovers 9/26/2005

Although I don't smoke cigars myself, I would recommend this place for cigar lovers. They carry a huge variety of different cigars (more than 200), they have a very comfortable sitting area and club-like atmosphere, and they have easy parking. more
