Disappointing Meal 5/3/2010

My husband and I wanted to find a good German restaurant for my father-in-law's birthday, and Christl's of Palatine came highly recommended. We went at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon. The place was quiet, which was nice, and we all enjoyed keeping up with the Cubs game on the TV by the bar. Our waitress was prompt and friendly; that's always nice. Pros: Nice Wait Staff Cons: Canned, Bland Food more

Great local restaurant, great German food! 2/23/2009

I love this restaurant!! Not a chain, run by a family, and wow does the grandmother know how to cook! I come from a very German family, and eating here reminds me of eating with family on Sundays. Sauerbraten was phenomenal, and the Wienerschnitzel was good as well. My fiancee said that the bratwurst was also good. HIGHLY recommend Pros: authentic, delicious, friendly Cons: out of the way/hard to find more

If you like german food, this is your place!!! 6/8/2005

Authentic, Authentic, Authentic. No fancy stuff here, just EXCELLENT, authentic, German food. Don't come here expecting polka bands and noise. This is a classic german restaurant. The service is excellent and the food is out of this world. I highly recommend the soups, schnitzel, and Oxtail if it is on the menu. Struedel is fantastic - completely made by hand. I could not give this place a higher recommendation. Prices are also VERY reasonable more

good home cooked meals 6/11/2004

If you are looking for someplace fancy this is not where you want to go. If you are looking for good food and a great value, then this is the place. The specials (lamb shank, shortribs, chicken schnitzel, etc.) are excellent and the goulash soup on saturday night reminds me of what i had in Budapest many years ago. All in all it's a great place with good food! It's a family freindly place. more

Not a German restuarant 7/28/2003

This is an American restuarant with German food. Out of three dushes, only one was delicious. The others were just average. The waitress was friendly, but over worked. We had trouble getting our water glasses filled. The ""openers"" were not German: the soup tasted like Dinty Moore's, the salad was not German, and the bread was ordinary. more

I'M CRYING 9/24/2002

I'LL MAKE THIS SHORT AND SWEET! THE SHORTRIBS AND SPAETZEL ALMOST MADE ME CRY. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE FOOD HERE YOU ARE EITHER MENTALLY DERANGED OR A CARD CARRYING MEMBER OF THE ""McDONALDS CLAN"". THE ONLY THING THAT SADDENED ME HERE WAS THE FACT THAT THE OWNERS WOULDN'T LET ME TAKE UP RESIDENCE. Pros: CONSISTENT, NOT CROWDED, TERRIFIC FOOD Cons: LITTLE HARD TO FIND, NEED BETTER SALAD more

Very authentic 9/12/2002

The food is outstanding, I work for a German company and make the trip every once in a while across the pond and my meal here was just as authentic as I have had. The only thing lacking was a good selection of biers. Pros: Food, Friendly Staff Cons: Beer Selection more
