I bring in my 5 year old niece to her pre III ballet class and I really like this academy they have so much fun and I like how my sister is giving her the type of lifestyle that she needs to be productive in her life. The staff and instructors in the academy are wonderful. They are nice and smart people. This is definitely by far the best dance academy to bring your child in. more

Not 'dance' and not 'academy' 1/19/2012

I took my grand daughter to this place for a few months but after I've been a witness of an AWFUL situation we changed the place right away (besides they really don't teach just give an idea what dance mean, mostly the girls enjoy to prepare for the classes - shoes and bags and etc.). The situation was: one woman questioned a receptionist about her disable child to visit a class and got an answer from her that its impossible. Thats it. But the comment from Chrissy (the owner) just nearly killed: I don't want that other clients would see IT!!!! OMG! Chrissy take A good manners class you despirately need it! Hopefully your own kids won't be disable! An awful place with a horrible owner!!! I won't recommend it to anyone!!! more

We're happy here... 6/24/2011

First, I must say that the receptionist is one of the peppiest persons I've ever met; she's always been very helpful and I've overheard her tactfully handle difficult situations. Chrissy's (CDA) appear to try hard to accommodate their customers/parents. I?ve never heard anything bad about CDA in the 2yrs we?ve been there so apparently what the previous reviewer ?knows? isn?t ?known?. As the price of just about everything else has gone up, I was anticipating a price increase. I agree that it would have been better to notify parents about the fee increase prior to paying for the recital, but it was probably just an oversight caused by trying to put off raising prices. I doubt that Chrissy feared a mass defection over a $6 per month price increase that puts their fees on par with other studios. I?ve found the ?no refunds for any reason? policy at every dance academy I?ve looked at (at least 5) so that isn?t unique to CDA. The check or cash only policy was instituted around the time we started there. They used to do debit/credit, perhaps they stopped due to the fees the card companies charged as Dollar Tree did for awhile-I don?t know the details. Yes, it?s a bit inconvenient, but I?m going to set up an automatic bill-pay with my bank for the Fall so this won?t be an issue. They don't require you have any of their logo gear (like I've seen elsewhere) unless your dancer is on their small competition team, so that keeps costs down a bit for the parents of recreational dancers. My dd?s first year was a little crazy as her class had frequent substitutes, but this year was great; and she?s never had a teacher that made her cry (I?ve seen that in other studio reviews). The only thing I would change is to split the recital into two parts for younger and older dancers; Chrissy?s has expanded to the point where the recitals are getting a bit long. Chrissy seems very open to parents' suggestions so I?ll drop a note about that :o) I also want to add that the location at 1604 and Bandera is convenient with snack shops, eateries, and a grocery store, next to or very close to the studio. So as long as my daughter is happy there and learning what she wants to learn I see no reason to leave. more

Poor Customer Service 6/8/2011

I would never recommend this dance academy. They may greet you with a smile, but it is artificial at best. This dance academy is known to get the most money out of its patrons with the least amount of effort on their part. Halfway through the school year they surprised everyone by demanding more money for monthly tuition. Deliberately waiting until after each family had made their significant financial commitments toward the end of the year recital, they intentionally placed all of their patrons in a lose/lose situation. Our only two options at this point were to pay the new higher fees each month, or loose all the money that we put into the recital as they refuse to give refunds for ANY reason. Another irritating issue is with their method of accepting payments. The owner stoutly refuses to update their payment system to include credit/debit cards. Instead they continue to insist that all payments be made by check, or cash only, even though they know this to be an inconvenience to many of the families. In short their customer service is superficial at best and you and your daughter would be better treated at another dance facility. more
