Disappointed 4/21/2011

The original owners did not have European chocolate, 'Mermaid Dreams'. They made all their own truffels and molded bars, using only the best single origin trinitario cacao. Nothing came from Europe. If you are part of the Gonzales clan or a friend, I don't fault you for giving a stellar review, after all, they are family. But don't misrepresent the people who established this business. Everyone in north shore knows better. more

You will not regret a visit to this hidden treasure! 8/1/2010

Haleiwa is a quaint little surf town, Chocolate Gecko Express is a sweet surprise. The original owner had only european chocolate. The new owners have expanded that to include a variety of chocolate from different sources from Waialua to the Big Island. How cool is that? I see no downside, just more variety. There are a few favorites all the locals snatch up so ask what they recommend for your tastes. The owners have hearts of gold and you can even find dark chocolate hearts with real edible gold flecks. They have chocolate dipped fruit as well highly recommended. Quite a variety, I can't see how anyone could be disappointed. Only ""problem"" will be that you have to go back and get more! Extra parking is available next door in the lot between there and Haleiwa Cafe so don't be discouraged when you see the 3 small spaces filled up in front. Go and enjoy! Aloha. Pros: Chocolate, Coffee Cons: Parking more

Great coffee!! 3/28/2010

The coffee here was outstanding and more affordable than other places selling high-end coffee. It was roasted on the premises too, which made it feel more authentic than other retail sources of coffee like kona. It had a nice feel overall and even though it lacked a single coherent theme, we found it charming and we're still enjoying the pounds of coffee we bought there. Pros: Great coffee roasted on premises; Costs less than other kona Cons: a little bit scattered, not sure what it wanted to be more

chocolate devolution 5/29/2009

New ownership took what used to be the best chocolate shop in the pacific ocean, and turned it into a sad, stale, freezer burned shell of what used to be a hidden treasure. New owners are peddling local chocolates specially coated with their own unique variations of ""fridge"" taste all the while using some of the most bitter processed chocolate sourced from the leftovers of various cocoa processing factories that shouldn't be allowed to call their bitter run-off ""cocoa"". more
