what happened to the chippery? 10/29/2009

I love the Chippery but went there not too long ago & it was closed. I tried calling & the number is disconnected. Did it move or did they close? I will miss their fish & chips if they closed for good! more

Great Batter Dipped Fish, but could give you more along with it 10/26/2007

I'd have to agree with missplymouth and say her review was very accurate. We'd passed this place by so many times I felt it was time to finally try it. We both ordered the Captains Fish & Chips plate (three pieces and chips). While the fish was extremely good, they could have included cole slaw and at least a small beverage along with it, but they were separate. For the three pieces of fish and so-so (small in my opinion) amount of chips (which also were very good) it ran eleven dollars and change; so for the two of us along with beverage the total was twenty-five and change. Now (as previously mentioned by miss-p) taking into consideration the lack of housekeeping, not an exclusive place mind you (so I don't imagine there's a big cost for upkeep), plus what they don't include with it, I'd have to say they're a bit overpriced. I do understand that seafood (and good seafood at that) can be expensive, but given the factors that I previously mentioned it is not warranted here, they could come down on the price for what they give you; either that or include the slaw and beverage. Chances are I probably wont return as I don't consider this a good value, but again, I have to agree, the batter dipped fish was exceptionally good. Pros: Great Batter Dipped Fish Cons: They could include more extras for the price, more chips too! more

Better Than Arthur Treachers - ANYDAY 11/25/2006

With Mapquest in hand, me and the 81 yr old mama in the Escort managed to drive by this little retro snack shack straight from the 50's. We turned around, backed up and parked, walked into what looked like an informal old Stewarts Rootbeer Style place and were greeted by "CHIPPER" happy friendly staff and a few people dining... Not knowing what was best I ordered a Captains Plate which for the uninformed was a little of everything, and mom had the fish and chips single order... The absolute best chips almost true to the english style were to be had - simply scrumptious. My mama confirmed they were every bit as good as the ones she has eaten in Kearny (The Argyle) and also in Devon Pa Scottish Games....The freshly battered -not strong tasting -but delish fish was great. My only complaint was the scallops on my platter should'nt belong there - not only was the coating different but it tasted awful to me - I guess I didnt expect that...and will never order that bait again. The only critcism Other than those mothball tasting scallops was as we dined I noticed the floor needed a good washing as the ketchup gobs looked pretty old and dried up and the tables were tacky with grease missing salt and pepper shakers - At the prices paid I would have wanted a cleaner place to eat....as everything else was almost perfect. I would RECOMMEND this place to eat to anyone longing for the old fashioned taste of real authenic Scottish Fish and Chips!! Pros: Excellent Authentic Fish & Chips Cons: Needs Better Housekeeping! more
