Chinese Shaolin Center Student of 18 years 12/9/2010

I would disregard these negative reviews. I have been a student at this school for 18 years. I have been to China twice, Chinese Wu Shu is not the original Shaolin Martial Arts. The last Grand Master Practioner of the Fukein Temple escaped before the Shaolin monks burned the Temple before the Ch'ing Emperor Kwang Hsu could complete it's destruction. I, personally, have been received at the rebuilt Shaolin Temple and Martial Arts school in Honan by the current shaolin monks and practioners. They acknowledge that our art is the true Shaolin Ch'ang Su from before the last Ch'ing Emperor, the Boxer wars and the advent of PRCC. We have separated our Shaolin Arts from the Buddhist and Taoist religions as they have done in the PRCC. Therefore, there are be differences from the modern day Chinese Shaolin Wu Shu . The gi originally worn was not a Japanese or Korean gi. It is the original Northern Shaolin gi worn by Shaolin Practioners at the Honan Temple. This gi can be seen on the Historic Shaolin Statues in the Honan Temple. Since those years, we have switched to the gi style worn by the Southern Shaolin in the 19th century. I can understand the ""nationalistic"" distress of Chinese who come to U.S. and find the CSC. But, we have the real traditional Shaolin arts as preserved by the last Grandmaster practioner who fled China to bring the arts to a safe place where they could be preserved. He was the only Grandmaster who learned all the arts of all seven Shaolin Temples. Our current Grandmaster Sin The' brought the arts to the US in 1965 and we have schools all over the U.S.. Come to the Norcross school and I will be happy to explain in more detail. You will not find a better martial arts school with the traditional Shaolin Arts than at any of the CSC schools across GA and in other states. more

this is no good chinese kongfu 8/2/2010

I never knew this schools has more than one location...My friend took me to one in highlands area before and it is really bad. I am from China and I have seen these real shaolin kongfu before...and this is NOT it! It looks not even like the chinese marshal arts at all. These fellows wear the tai kwong do outfits in barefoot and do strange movements that is not reall chinese kongfu. I wrote a review on the highlands location and then these ad came up. I am so surprised that they have so many school and yet they tricks the public! more

Karate or Kenpo maybe - but Chinese Kung fu this is not 8/2/2010

Being Chinese, I was searching for traditional Chinese shaolin kung fu back in the nineties. Seeing their sign on their school, I was ecstatic! But, like an idiot, I didn't go watch a class first. I went in, asked questions and signed their contract and laid out a lot of cash. I showed up to my first lesson and first noticed that everyone was wearing Karate Gis and barefoot, and that threw me off. I assumed there was a Karate class sharing space at the school, but to my dismay - no, this was the supposed shaolin kung fu. To their credit, the friendly instructors there do give you a great fitness challenge, but the things they teach you....Well, let's just say it is not shaolin kung fu. I don't even know what it is but it was not for me at all. Unfortunately because of the contract I had to keep paying, but I quit taking the classes very early on before the contract was done. Since then I went on to visit other schools in Atlanta (I now live in Florida) and found that there were other lesser-known but much better quality out there in Atlanta. In my opinion - if you really want real kung fu, keep looking. (Gosh I hate posting bad reviews :( Pros: Fitness Cons: Lots of things... more

Karate Dresses Up 7/29/2010

I must say that I got a pretty great workout with them. I spent way too much money here for 6 months and was more than disappointed to say the least. They're way over-priced and after learning more on the internet about Chinese martial arts I realized that they were not teaching what they claimed to be. Yeah, I figured out these guys were teaching a mish-mash. Bottom line is if you're looking for a friendly encouraging place to get in shape with a martial arts bent - get on it; if you're looking for chinese martial arts, look elsewhere. Pros: Great workout Cons: Overpriced and not shaolin nor Chinese martial arts at all more

Best Traditional Kung Fu, Not just for show! 1/31/2006

Very traditional, very unique, focused yet laid back atmosphere... the instructors are very encouraging and helpful - no ego (a rarity in martial arts) The kung fu is very classical meaning that it's not for showiness. The curriculum is very comprehensive and challenging. more
