From the moment you begin to enter China Bear, from the parking lot, you are like.. wow! They have a small pond outside the doors that is home to many fish. Inside, you are wowed by the decor. Glazed stone benches, tables of bonsai and bamboo, and even a gift store to the left as you enter. Might I add it is not a tiny store reminiscent of any trinket store. It wraps around to another side of the building and has clothing, furniture, and paintings galore.
However, on to the food!
You will not know where to begin. The salad bar is quite decent and it even has a selection of sushi and fresh spring rolls. Beef and chicken selections to the left and seafood to the right. The broccoli beef is great and surprisingly enough, so was the shrimp fettucini. Not to sound like a ramble from Forrest Gump, but there was fried shrimp, popcorn shrimp, shrimp fried rice, boiled shrimp, shrimp fettucini, shrimp spring roll, shrimp sushi! There were three different types of salmon prepared, and numerous other fish selections. If you have someone in your party that tends to not eat as much Chinese as they do the American fares, they have chicken tenders, nuggets, macaroni, grilled pork chops, and French fries that are neither cold nor soggy.
The dessert selections are plentiful, as well. Three types of cake, several cookies, mango and coconut puddings (although the consistency was more like a jello), fresh fruits, and 3 flavors of ice cream. They even have a few frozen mixed drink machines so if you come here after work.. go ahead and order yourself a Margarita, Pina Colada or a Blue Hawaiian.
The decor is lovely. Panda bears are etched into the windows they adorn, with a slight frosted look. Aged vessels boast the culture they represent along the mirrored walls, upon glass shelves.
The staff makes sure you are taken care of. Drinks are refilled and tables are not left dirty for long.
This was definitely a place that impressed me, a fact which never happens at a buffet.
Enjoy!
Pros: Great selctions, beautiful establishment.
Cons: Only one in Houston. Other is in Stafford.
