CTA 6/16/2006

Come on, let's show CTA some love! They are not perfect by any means. But when I need to use them once in a while, I am very grateful they are there. When I was in between vehicles a couple years ago, I took CTA all the time. Considering the price of gas and the fact that you could go all the way from the end of Evanston to the South side of Chgo for 2 bucks makes you realize we have one of the best public transit systems in the country. The new fare cards seem to be working out well these days also. If you don't like waiting too long for buses, call them or get a route schedule; they are usually not off by much. It will help a lot, especially in winter. more

Creepy at times.. 6/2/2006

I think I have used almost all the lines that they have to offer here at different times of the day. I have been to other cities and they definitely have better trasportation system for sure. The CTA is just too crowded, has too may delays, and just plaln old CREEPY late at night. But, hey, being a pretty financially challenged student, who am I to complain about being able to get around the city for cheap?! more

Mixed Feelings... 5/21/2006

I have used public transportation in many different cities and countries and I have to say that our CTA rates very low compared to the other places. The facilities are not the best and could not only use major renovations, but also could be kept a bit cleaner. Also, the whole system is kind of a nuisance. The trains are often late and the trains are crowded. BUT with all that said, you really can't complain about the pricing and the ease, because gas is so high nowadays and traffic has become crazy on the roads. With that in mind, I guess the pros of the CTA outweigh the cons! more

21st Century? Or am I just imagining it 5/19/2006

CTA needs to get with the times. I almost always use public transportation in other cites and have found that the CTA, while not the worst, doesn't even make it to my top 5 (Bern [or any Swiss city], London, New York, Cologne and D.C.). Aren't there enough world-wide examples for us to be able to develop a better system? AND a better business/budgeting plan? Why are we paying more for the same (and in some cases, worse) shitty service? Late busses and trains, piggy-backing busses, poor station upkeep, poor train/bus upkeep, etc. etc. etc. And the Red Line--has anyone ever cleaned those train cars? more

Love 'em or hate 'em, I appreciate good old CTA! 5/13/2006

People who live in Chicago have a love/hate relationship with CTA. Don't get me wrong, they are not perfect by any means. I need to use them once in a while and am very grateful. When I was in between vehicles a couple years ago, I took CTA all the time. Yeah for Public Transportation. 3/17/2006

Since I don't drive, live downtown and parking is a nightmare - I live by CTA and taxis. I perfer the Red Line over most of the other lines (Blue line is seriously creepy in some places and gross in most). I just signed up for a CTA unlimited card - I swear if the rates go up again I'm going to hurt someone. more

Between Sheridan and Fullerton, the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Red Line has been extremely slow in the last couple of months. This is due in part to construction by DePaul University at the Fullerton stop, in part because they ALWAYS seem to be working on the tracks lately, and in part because of mystical, cosmic forces that conspire to make sure you're late to whatever you're trying to get to. My recommendation - when traveling during the day on the North-side Red line, allow at least thirty five minutes of travel time between Sheridan and Fullerton. You'll be on time and probably, less angry at the CTA, which makes the commute better for everyone. more
