Here's my story! We brought our car to Chelms Auto to be fixed. The owner, Phil Dionne told us that the starter was the problem and we gave him authorization to fix only the start...

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/24/2014

Not only did he pressure wash my engine to clean up all the dried up anti-freeze that had exploded everywhere, but he found a nail in my tire, cleaned the corrosive material around my battery terminal, and noticed that a steel backing plate behind my rotor had been causing the awful squealing noise I had been hearing for a few weeks. He fixed all these things for free.\r more

Dave is starting a new business in Chelmsford and is off to a great start. I have dropped my truck off for very extensive work - the gas tank fell out as I was being a little rowdy off road. He fixed it with no worries, on time and UNDER budget. Who ever heard of that? Since then he put tires on it and is now doing an oil change, rusty pan and all. My truck is old and rusty; it was a plow truck. It is my truck though. I am from Alabama, everything you heard is true, we don't trust our trucks to just anyone. Dave is honest, fast, knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. I see the lights on in his garage on the weekends and at 10 pm during the week. He is dedicated and very hard working. This is the guy you want fixing your car and this is a guy you can trust with your truck. That is no small praise.\r more

My car needed an engine rebuild every part he used was straight from ford, and installed properly. David stayed late multiple nights to work on this massive project, and he also had fun doing it. He is a hard working honest man, and will go through whatever it takes to be sure that your vehicle is repaired properly and safely. At the beginning of the project, he told me a price, and did not go over it at all like most mechanics do. David even went above and beyond to get the truck inspected, and even called me two weeks later to check up on it. The truck runs 10 times better than the day i bought it, and gets about 7 more mpg than it used to! Expert Automotive is a very professional garage, and a classic example of hardworking Americana. I have found a lifetime mechanic, and would not trust anyone else with my vehicle. Please use Expert Automotive you will not regret it!\r more

I brought my 2000 Ford ranger here after it was making a loud engine noise, many other mechanics had told me to junk the truck as it wasn't worth anything. Not only did they offer to open up the engine to diagnose the problem, but he offered to do the tear down work for free so that i wouldn't end up paying money on something that couldn't be fixed.\r more

I was so happy because at the end of the day, the price he gave me for all this work was less then the dealer's price for the radiator part alone, nevermind what they would charge for the labor. That is pretty impressive when you think about it.\r more

I highly recommend David at Expert Auto. I was given his name from an AAA employee when he stopped to help me on the side of the highway. I brought the car to David after work the following day and he was great. He not only fixed my muffler quickly (one of the bolts holding it had rusted out) but he also didn't charge me anything. He's an honest hard working guy who will definitely get my business going forward. I couldn't be happier to have found him.\r more

I've been so impressed with Expert Automotive. David Pepi has been wonderful about accommodating my schedule when I need to get my car fixed. He is informative, professional, and fair. He takes care of both my and my husband's cars, and whenever we need a service he explains the problem and how he is going to fix it thoroughly and clearly. His prices are incredibly reasonable. We plan to work with him for many years and many cars to come.\r more

We are delighted to finally find a neighborhood mechanic who's trustworthy. They do honest and prompt work at an affordable price. We were about to trade in our Honda Civic when we knew some big repairs were in the pipeline. This shop gave us a great deal, they took the time to explain the pros and cons of keeping the car. They even showed us the parts to prove work was done. We are happy that we kept the car, and happier to be without a car payment!!!! This experience shows this shop is a must try for maintenance or repair to your vehicle.\r more

Phil Dionne is a dishonest business person! 3/4/2011

Here's my story! We brought our car to Chelms Auto to be fixed. The owner, Phil Dionne told us that the starter was the problem and we gave him authorization to fix only the starter. We found out the following day it was not the starter and that it was a corroded battery cable. The cost to us was $417.00. Phil never informed us, and also never requested our permission to replace the cable. If he had contacted us, we NEVER would have auth'd the $417 for a cable for a 10 year old car! We went online to find out what our rights are of a consumer since they did not have auth from us to fix the car. According to MA Motor Veh Reg 940 CMR5.00 it states:""If the repair shop is unable to obtain written authorization from the customer to perform specific repairs (as when the specific repairs to be performed on the vehicle are not known at the time the vehicle is delivered to the repair shop), the repair shop notifies the customer, PRIOR to commencing any repairs, of the specific repairs to be performed on the vehicle and the total price to be charged the customer for such repairs, including parts and labor, and OBTAINS THE CUSTOMER'S AUTHORIZATION TO PERFORM SUCH REPAIRS"" After printing out the Motor Vehicle Reg 940 CMR5.00 & confronting Phil with this info, he obviously knew he was wrong and charged us $217 LESS than the initial $417. PHIL DIONNE is a complete rip off artist and we will be reporting him to the Attorney general's office! Stay away from this place! more

Dishonest! 2/11/2009

I'd always heard about dishonest mechanics overcharging people for work, but until going to Chelmsford Automotive, I'd never had it happen to me. My experience with this business has made me wary of all auto repair shops. Cons: Dishonest pricing more
