Wonderful! 2/10/2008

My husband and I ate here based on the last review. It was indeed wonderful. The atmosphere is really nice, the service is great and most of the food was delicious. As vegetarians we only had 2 entrees to choose from, but the feast made up for it. The way it works here is you have a Moroccan Feast, which includes 2 courses of appetizers, a basket of bread, an entree and dessert. Everything is eaten by hand but you can request a fork. We started with a platter of hummus, eggplant and lettuce with a basket of bread. Then came the pastry, which is available with chicken or vegetarian, and that is followed by the entree and then the dessert, which is a basket of whole fruit and a fried pastry with honey and sesame seeds. The vegetarian entrees were slightly bland, but the chickpeas were delicious. The only complaint I have is that they require each person to order an entree and together with 2 courses of appetizers, that is A LOT of food! Unless you have a fridge to put leftovers in, you may want to ask if you can share an entree and offer to pay an additional $10 or $15. The reason for the rule is to ensure everyone makes their wage, and I have no problem with that, but we didn't have anywhere to put leftovers and we hate to waste food. Come prepared to spend time and money - the Feast starts at $25 per person and we were there for 2 hours. We will definitely return but we will ask to pay extra and only order one entree. Pros: Ambiance, great food Cons: Each person required to have an entree more

Well my wife and I are from Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley to be exact. We have been to MANY middle eastern restaurants down here in Los Angeles, there are many nice ones down in Los Angeles. I say this not to brag in any kind of way, but more to explain that because we've been to a variety of different middle eastern restaurants down here, we've had the good, the bad, and the ugly. Still to this day, not ONE of those restaurants has measured up to the great food and service that we have been privelged enough to receive at Chef Karim's. We first came a year ago during a stay in SB for our honeymoon and we just fell in love with this place. No, not because we were in a lovey dovey type of mood, but because Chef Karim provdided such an excellent experience. He was there on hand and foot for any and everything that we needed. He made sure that we were more than happy during our entire meal. And since then, we have came back often, even once with our 5 year old daughter (who truly enjoyed the belly dancing ). You will get EXCELLENT food of the most exquisite taste, and very personalized service from Chef Karim. On every visit, the entire staff has been charmingly pleasant. We will be there this upcoming weekend for our one year anniversary. As we tell many of our friends who sometimes take a trip up to Santa Barbara, "You haven't seen the beautiful delights of Santa Barbara until you've had dinner at Chef Karim's". We recommend this place to anyone who is search of a delicious meal and an enjoyable time. Pros: The personalized service is like none other. Chef Karim cares about his customers and he genuinely shows it the excellent service he provides whether you're the only customer or one out of many. Cons: There isn't one in the Los Angeles area ... :-( more

When we first came in we weren't sure what to expect, but once we settled in and the chef came to our table to take our orders we started to feel like family. He made some wonderful suggestions (the lamb dish was fantastic). All the food was wonderful, the meals are all inclusive with appetizers to the fuit and nuts basket at the end. During our meal the belly dancer came out with such energy. Everyone got up and started dancing with her! It was amazing. The chef got everyone dancing. He really made you feel welcomed. Pros: great food, belly dancer, fun more

Fantastic getaway atmoshpere into another culture. Truly not just a meal, but an experience. Plan on about 2 hrs and come in numbers we were 7 deep, and it worked out great. The food itself was as delicous as it was unique. The belly dancing was an added bonus and delivers the final touch to the whole authentic escapism feel. Pros: courses, decor, personable service Cons: no tabacco smoker, price (but worth it) more
